A genus of the Asteraceae family, the Cosmos Sulphureus is also known as Sulphur Cosmos, Mexican Aster (being native to Mexico) and Yellow Cosmos (although they can be found in many shades of colour from yellow through to red). I found this one attracting butterflies and insects as it grew wild among the grass and scrub by the side of a track near Bucerias, Mexico. I wanted to show the flower without visitors as it is so attractive and striking on its own. ( Apologies to Mick Hucknall for the title :-} ) Explore #163, 13 August 2015.

I haven't taken any cosmos shots since June this year as I didn't get into it for some reason. So I took some today, shame I couldn't find any ladybirds on them...

Cosmos sulphureus (Yellow Cosmos)
Cosmos belongs to that vast family of plants known as Asteraceae. Although there are 20 known species of cosmos, two annual species, Cosmos sulphureus and Cosmos bipinnatus, are most familiar to home gardeners. The leaves of C. sulphureus are long, with narrow lobes and hairy margins. The flower colors of this species are always shades of yellow, orange or red.
The evenly placed petals led them to christen the flower "Cosmos," the Greek word for harmony or ordered universe. Cosmos, like many of our warm weather annuals such as marigolds, originated in Mexico and South America.

Few flowers and butterflies are seen recently. It is getting cool day by day. I thought what could shoot while they are away in winter. This is something I did not think last year. It was not my habit to go out with my camera then. This butterfly(painted lady) was sipping the nectar behind the petals of the flower.
My new set of butterflies see here please.
Cosmos sulphureus is a species of flowering plant in the sunflower family Asteraceae, also known as sulfur cosmos and yellow cosmos. It is native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, and naturalized in other parts of North and South America as well as in Europe, Asia, and Australia.
