View across the Copper Canyon from the balcony of our room at the Hotel Mirador.

I liked the way the copper colour appeared on the different faces. It's like a Pantone chart.

A view from Copper Mountain

Copper is mined either at open pit copper ore mines or underground copper ore mines. First the copper ore is blasted, loaded and transported to the primary crushers. Then the ore is crushed and screened, with the fine sulfide ore (~-0.5 mm) going to froth flotation cells for recovery of copper. In the primary crusher, the ore is broken into smaller pieces of less than 25 centimetres in diameter. Crushed ore is then loaded on to a conveyor belt which takes it to the storage bin. In the storage bin, ball mills and other grinding machine grind the ore until it is a fine powder. During the crushing process, SBM has improved the capacity and end crushing products with our secondary crusher and tertiary crusher. The total energy consumption is reduced considerably.

The copper artwork was developed by art students from Ilseworth and Syon School; the inspiration for the copper images came from plants introduced into the UK in the reign of George III - plants such as camellias, tiger lilies and the monkey puzzle tree.

Life is full of bowls, copper ones.....

Creamy white freshwater pearls are nestled inside unique bright copper lily shaped bead caps. The effect is a charming lily blooming from its stem!

Including the bright copper earwires, these measure about 1 1/4 inches, or about 3cm.

Oops, I just realized that I posted this (the one earring that I had) back in October. I just finished the second one...

Driving down the road we came upon a new shopping center being built with a copper dome, so I had to roll down the passenger side window and lean over the person in the passenger seat to take this picture before the light turned green.

Is that an ace up your sleeve?

We were instructed to use as many different copper forming techniques as we could think of to create a piece in one week. I made a bouquet of flowers which used most of the techniques I'd learned. The black and the pinkish color changes were caused by the Liver of Sulfur Patina. I experimented with an ammonia/salt patina for some of the little grasses which turns the copper blue. Copper is very soft and is fun to play with.
