Do you think when Cooper (he's a Cooper Hawk) isn't gliding with ease in the air that he sits in a tree or on a pole and sharpens his nails?
A medium-sized predator that likes to fly fifteen feet or so above the ground, zipping through the branches of trees with ease and surprising small bird and doves.
Looks like an autumn image, but actually from March. These guys look great no matter the time of year!

This may not be as sharp as I would have wished, but I am still pleased to have been able to capture this grab shot while complying with the stay at home directive

Photographed through glass window. This bird has been able to eat here at my home two consecutive days, West Valley Area, Yakima County, Washington. It is very shy. If I peak around the corner of my house he/she flies. IMG_0571

Accipiter cooperii - Cooper's Hawk
J'aurais bien aimer assister a son lunch, mais je suis arriver en retard
This bird was in my backyard, up close from 12:57 to 2:51 pm November 3. There is a long story but to keep it short he or she spent most of the time in my apricot tree preening and bird watching. Twice she went to the ground after birds, and failed to make a kill. She returned to perch in the apricot tree after each attempt. If she was keeping a list of birds for future reference that list would include Black-capped Chickadee, Anna's Hummingbird, Dark-eyed Junco, House Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, and California Quail. This Coopers Hawk is surveying the shrubs below where smaller birds seek shelter. I have even seen this hawk on the ground hunting in the bushes.
Walking along a trail this guy was quietly finishing his meal. Kind of cool just the two of us 50' away from each other and no one else on the trail.

This Cooper's Hawk may have just finished a meal a short while ago - note the fuzzy white feathers above the beak !
Seen at King Gillette Ranch, Malibu CA.
Cooper looks like he was coming out of a dream. He has been a dream for us, having entered our life close to 10 years ago.
All of those scuff marks on his nose are gone now.
Cooper is going to be an interesting cat to get to know. Aside from being suspicious of humans, he seems like he might be a quieter, more reflective cat.
Kept hearing a juvenile Cooper's Hawk around the neighborhood for the last few days and finally spotted him today.
Cooper has settled down a lot. He has a good life now. He still digs huge holes and is jealous of Mr Whiskers. Cooper does his best to block Mr Whiskers from getting on the bed.
