In late April, I had the pleasure of painting a 60 foot mural for Pabst Blue Ribbon on the side of The Local in Atlanta. I had a few talented assistants and I couldn’t have done it without them—Kyle Brooks, Maria Brooks, and Toby Huss. I also couldn’t have done it without the help of Luis Sandoval at PBR.
My initial sketch featured a character inspired by Kyle that looked more like a soldier riding a phoenix. I eventually swapped him out for a figure inspired by an old PBR mascot named Cool Blue. He’s throwing the “A TOWN DOWN” hand signal while riding a giant turkey phoenix rising above the flames carrying a flag for the beer and bar, because duh. Following the Battle of Atlanta, the city’s symbol is the phoenix rising from the ashes since the city has burned and been rebuilt twice.
This turkey phoenix in particular loves PBR and has the strength of Popeye, but he may never taste that sweet nectar. Sad! I painted the snowy landscape with evergreens to give the eyes a visual rest on both sides of our heroes. I hope all the locals at The Local enjoy this mural.

I am not a winter person. Pretty much survive in my hot tub from December to March. But there is beauty in that blanket of pure white snow and the chilly blue sky you only get during winter's hold. Happy Thursday, friends. Trying to get my little photography feet back out there.
After a few weeks of working on the painting with the children, the canvas has now been stretched onto a frame and is on display. The children painted with their hands and feet, long brushes, sticks, rollers, droppers, round sponges and water sprays. We imagined we were swimming in "the sea", on "the moon", "building bridges" to avoid stepping into shark-infested waters (where we also met "the wild things"). We fed the fish (or "poissons" and landed at the "airport" by "building a runway" over the sea. With all the slippery sliding on the wet paint, we also imagined we were on "motor bikes" and "ice skating" (which is what the children decided to call it).
It's less of a painting and more of a magic carpet, I'd say.

An ice cold stream flowing thru the Watkins Glen glacial gorge. Yes, when the Sun is low in the sky, the icy and snow looks blue. I'm talking about the real cool blue. A picture cannot do justice to the sight of this magnificent marvel of nature.
This was taken from a small group of rocks from Thurso beach. It was an extremely windy day. I was so busy looking through the viewfinder I missed this wave (it was bigger than the others, every one in 7, or something like that). The water went up over my knees, so I beat a hasty retreat. Lesson learned!!!
I was going through some older images and this is one that I had passed by several times, I guess it never really caught my attention. But tonight, something about it really caught my eye. Perhaps it was the colors or the reflection in the wet sand.....or maybe it's this cruddy weather we're having that is causing me to long for summer.
This was an exceptionally killer night at Arcadia. I found some amazing curved rocks that I've never had the chance to find again, the sky had the perfect amount of clouds, the sunset went off. All in all it was a photographers wet....ummm......a photographers best wish for conditions.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it.

Cool Blue is one of the companies benefiting from the COVID-19 crisis. Many people order online and to emphasize this Combino is dressed in cool blue. Never used this location for one of my tram shots before. No sunlight but the chance of cars driving on the foreground is quite low here.
This Siemens Combino, 2089 was delived to the GVB at 14/07/2003 and first seen in passenger service on 16/08/2003 on line 12 (source: traminfo.nl).

The many bikes make you believe the shop has a sale.
I know, I know - but when will we next get some snow like this - I might be too old to play with it :-(( I could not wait for sunshine tomorrow!! I was amazed to see icicles appear so quickly. On my windowsill.
