Annie Pants and Corset by Ben´s Boutique

Since the other four images in this set:

Orange Plate

Lime Cup

Pink Tear

Sunrise Collision

are all landscape images, I thought I'd redo this as a landscape too. The original is still in my stream here

aevo69 said "Great shot love this. I'd love recreate something like this if you've got any pointers I would be very grateful."

OK, no problem.

The basic set-up:

The drops falls into a container of water, nothing fancy needed here, the above shot used a saucepan!

A sheet of diffusion material (an actual sheet would do!) is placed behind that container and the flash-gun is placed behind that. The flash points at the sheet and the light is diffused and travels through the splash so that the splash is lit from behind.

The colour comes from a coloured gel on the flash, I used a sheet of blue cellophane from a kiddies craft kit.

The camera is placed almost on a level with the water surface, so that you're looking at the reflection of you background in the water.

The key points are:

1) Flash speed - you need an incredibly fast flash pulse. For a normal speedlite you need to use a lower flash power. The lower the power of a normal flash, the faster the pulse. If you're using studio lights you need one based on IGBT technology.

2) Timing - although it is quite possible to do this manually, you get a massive jump in repeatability if you use some electronics to do the timing. Machines like the time machine or stop shot let you control the timing and size of the drop along with the delay between the drop leaving the solenoid valve and the flash firing.

3) Additives - Plain water has too much surface tension and too little viscosity to form really nice shapes. You increase the viscosity by using Xanthan or Guar gum and you reduce the surface tension by adding detergent, something that's low foaming (I used a drop or two of floor cleaner)

4) Research - the best resource I've found on the subject is the work of Corrie White, she has a superb ebook available here

The simplest way to start is to photograph single drops as this can be done entirely manually with no electronics and a single speedlite. There's a description of how I made a crown shot like this here and a couple more examples here and here

This was taken almost a year ago with my wee compact.... a little bit of HDR tweaking and here's the result :)

The choppy waves on the shores of Newcastle, County Down were freezing. I'd brought my nephew down last February for a day out, but neither of us were brave enough to get our feet wet hahaha

Hope you are all having a great week, another rainy one for us in Northern Ireland with more wet stuff on the way :(

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for snow, but as time goes on I'm starting to feel a little pessimistic LOL

Thanks for the wonderful comments on my previous uploads, I'm so grateful to you all :)

Located in northern Finland, the Korouoma Nature Reserve is an impressive area known for its deep gorge, steep rock walls and beautiful waterfalls. The reserve is a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers, climbers and adventurers. One of the most striking features of Korouoma is the 30 kilometer long gorge, which in some places is more than 100 meters deep. This gorge was created by glacial erosion during the last ice age and is surrounded by imposing rock walls of limestone and quartzite. In winter, the waterfalls along the gorge freeze, creating a spectacular ice climbing paradise for experienced climbers. In addition to the breathtaking gorge, the Korouoma Nature Reserve also offers several hiking trails and viewpoints where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness. There are several marked trails that vary in length and difficulty, allowing both novice and experienced hikers to find something to suit their level. The reserve is also home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, including rare plants, birds and mammals. It is an excellent place for bird watchers, with chances to see birds of prey, owls and other bird species. It is a true treasure for nature lovers and a must-visit destination for anyone who wants to experience the breathtaking beauty of the Finnish wilderness.

A hike to Korouoma in the snow is an enchanting experience that takes you deep into the winter wilderness of Lapland. During the winter months, Korouoma transforms into a fairytale landscape covered in a thick layer of snow, making it an idyllic destination for adventurous hikers and nature lovers. One of the highlights of the walk to Korouoma is the Koronjää. A beautiful circular walk of about 12 km along an impressive ice wall that is created by the freezing of water that seeps from the rock walls. This ice wall can reach enormous dimensions and is a spectacular sight, especially in winter. As you walk through the snow-covered paths of Korouoma, you will be surrounded by serene silence and breathtaking views of snow-capped trees, frozen waterfalls and glittering ice formations. One of the five ice formations is the Mammuttiputous - the Mammoth Fall is one of the most popular climbing spots at Korouoma. The wide frozen fall offers several climbing routes of various levels of difficulty. The right side of the icefall is some 50 metres high. The brook that creates the ice originates on the slopes of Yli-Voho Hill. Most of the brook's clear water comes from a spring, which gives the ice sheet its distinct blue colour. This winter, the middle section of the wall turns into an ice cave that lends itself to an adventurous overnight stay. The white splendor of nature creates a magical atmosphere that enchants your senses and lets you experience the beauty of winter in a unique way. It is important to wear warm clothes and suitable footwear as temperatures in Lapland can be very cold during winter. Despite the challenges of winter conditions, a hike to Korouoma in the snow offers an unforgettable experience full of adventure, wonder and the chance to enjoy the untouched beauty of the Finnish wilderness in its most magical season.

Went for a walk today on the Rannoch moor, on looking at Loch Ba, I turned around and spotted a wee elevated hillock on the other side of the '82. That'll do for me I thought. No golden hour light (1500Hrs), but what a view. Lee big stopper colour cast, made the sky very blue, I quite like the effect, though it is not realistic.

This is a picture done with oil brushes in painter lX

took me 5 hours to get to this hope you like!

Went looking for some new locations this morning, I had an area in mind (the Trossachs), but no exact part (failing to plan is planning to fail, lol). I spotted a nice wee loch, Loch Achray and a handy wee layby. The sun was rising so I had little time to play with as the light was changing rapidly. I was still trying to find a nice composition when this beautiful light splashed across the loch. Better to get the light than faff around looking for the perfect position, so here it is. I love the quality of the light here in the west of Scotland, it takes some beating.

Any comments/positive critique welcome. I would really like to improve my photography.

I had been wanting to take a shot from this perspective for a long time, so I caught the night bus into St Pauls because the trains weren’t running at that time. It’s was so peaceful walking across the bridge only meeting the occasional jogger. I knew that in about an hour there would be too many people on the bridge to get a clear shot of the Cathedral, and the bridge vibrates slightly so the foot traffic would probably cause too many vibrations to get a sharp long exposure shot.
