New recipe tonight. New cooking experience for us as this was one of the few times I've made a shrimp dish, despite loving shrimp. And this was the first risotto that I've made and I think it came out very well for a first attempt. And it was delicious!
I have been craving French toast for a while, so I told Wallace that I wanted French Toast and sausage for dinner tonight. Our recipe, inspired by a Cook's Illustrated recipe makes the most fantastic French Toast I have ever eaten.
We had a very quiet and relaxing Saturday, for a change.
I made beef burgundy for dinner tonight. It has been simmering in the slow cooker since earlier this afternoon.
My house smells wonderful an in related news Wallace is home for the weekend!
I made dinner much earlier tonight as part of my effort to get our schedule more under control. Savannah enjoyed dinner quite a lot, and Wallace sounded pleased when I told him about the left-overs he would be having. I hope to eventually shift dinner to a time even a little earlier in the evening. Not quite as early as my parents' dinner time but much earlier than our "usual" dinner time. Maybe the time change coming up for the end of DST will help with our schedule shift a little bit. Bonus for me: I already have tomorrow night's dinner planned!
Here are Wallace's birthday cupcakes! We had cupcakes and ice cream with my parents tonight. I am glad we were able to spend the day together. We've been together almost for half of our lives , and half of the birthdays we've ever had. I am so thankful for him in my life!
My first time making this. We need more fresh vegetables in our life. This is a fast and easy dinner, Yum!
Conversations like this are fairly common. The main topic tonight was my laziness and what influence that has on my poor choices. Life is too short for regret and poor judgement, or for willingly ingesting Hamburger Helper. From this day forward, I will strive to make significantly better choices.
Today was a lazy day that was needed. Dinner was a quick but yummy new recipe(a little heavy on the salmon, for me). It was a good flavor profile, for sure.
Savannah and I made chocolate mousse this evening. Savannah was disheartened to find out that it needed to chill in the refrigerator for a while before it was ready to eat. She has been waiting impatiently for the timer to signal that it was time for eating mousse. Savannah was an excellent helper in the kitchen. I am looking forward to making some more things with her soon!
Tonight for dinner was my anti-hamburger helper, otherwise known as Cook's Country's Skillet Macaroni and Beef. This is a favorite dinner in our house, as well as a favorite freeze-able and reheat-able dinner to take to eat during Wallace's work week. It is fast, easy, hearty and delicious. It tastes a bajillion times better than hamburger helper could ever hope to taste!
It was not especially photogenic, but it did taste very good! Today was a kind of down day, since I was sore from cleaning yesterday. Tomorrow I am back to stuff around the house.
Dinner for tonight was a new recipe and it was enjoyed by everyone very much! And happily Wallace is home for the weekend!
Tonight was a good night for television at my house. My two favorite contestants from each show ended up winning! Christina and Christine were outstanding and both deserved to win, so it was two small celebrations for each of them, in two of favorite competition cooking shows this evening! Yay!
While we spent time earlier today mostly relaxing, I spent the evening cooking with Wallace. I made dessert (my mom's cheesecake) and then dinner which is a Cook's Country recipe for skillet Macaroni and Beef.
Savannah noticed an unusual item on her lunch menu next Monday, while I was working on laundry tonight. We've been giggling about it ever since she showed it to me.
Tried a food delivery service today, and cancelled the subscription later this evening. Not a worthwhile expenditure, but we have another couple of contenders once we discuss it and revisit the topic soon.
To go with our sausage sandwiches tonight. Note to self: must find more reasons to make these soon. They are so yummy!
This is the easiest do-it-yourself recipe ever!
Just google making homemade Crème Fraîche. My recipe is from America's Test Kitchen, but it almost identical to the one found on Epicurious.
Maybe you have never used it, but it is an extra creamy substitute for sour cream in some instances and it is fabulously delicious.
Yum!
I am a cookbook and food magazine junkie. I also watch too many cooking competition shows and so many things on food network, and cooking channel when I can see it.
I almost always have a cookbook or magazine or two on my coffee table to browse here and there.
These are what are currently on my coffee table. I have been craving pasta recently and have been looking for a new recipe to try.
Country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. Hot and lazy Sunday today. I enjoyed our dinner as well as the new episode of True Blood tonight.
Wallace bought me an ice cream maker attachment for my kitchen-aid mixer a few years back. He also bought me this excellent cookbook. Sadly, I have only made ice cream with it once. I am planning to rectify this oversight later on this week. Savannah and I have been talking about things we'd like to make together, including ice cream! I am looking forward to making some ice cream with her later on this week!
Manon and I went through a green delire where everything we baked had to be different colours. We made pink and green cupcakes, blue pudding, Orange cookies... Thankfully, we've left this stage of our cooking/baking adventures.
I am taking an online undergrad class at HACC during the summer session. It started today. And I will have to do a book report. Woo!
