The transcontinental Indian-Pacific train at Cook, a very remote and almost abandoned railway town (Pop 4) in outback South Australia.
This is the cook's bedroom at the historic O'Keefe Ranch between Armstrong and Vernon in British Columbia. The ranch is a tourist destination in the North Okanagan, and offers tours of the family home. The whole place is a photographer's dream, with weathered wood buildings, old farm machinery, beautiful gardens, horses and such. Chinese cooks were employed here, and lived in this separate building, which was big enough for two single beds and the toilet and washing facilities you see.
Thomas Cook (22 November 1808 – 18 July 1892)
Cook's idea to offer excursions came to him while waiting for the stagecoach on the London Road at Kibworth. With the opening of the extended Midland Counties Railway, he arranged to take a group of 570 temperance campaigners from Leicester Campbell Street station to a rally in Loughborough, eleven miles away (as there were no pubs there!). On 5 July 1841, Thomas Cook arranged for the rail company to charge one shilling per person that included rail tickets and food for this train journey. Cook was paid a share of the fares actually charged to the passengers, as the railway tickets, being legal contracts between company and passenger, could not have been issued at his own price. This was the first privately chartered excursion train to be advertised to the general public; Cook himself acknowledging that there had been previous, unadvertised, private excursion trains.
During the following three summers he planned and conducted outings for temperance societies and Sunday-school children. In 1844 the Midland Counties Railway Company agreed to make a permanent arrangement with him provided he found the passengers. This success led him to start his own business running rail excursions for pleasure, taking a percentage of the railway tickets.
Thomas Cook died in 1892 and is buried in Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester. After Cook's death, the business was continued by his son John Mason Cook.
This statue outside Leicester train station was created by James Walter Butler RA. The statue was commissioned by Leicester City Council with assistance from British Railways Community Unit and Thomas Cook Ltd, and was unveiled by Thomas Cook, great-great-grandson of the subject, on 14 January 1994.

Magnesium Fire Steel
This consists of a block of solid magnesium with a full-length flint inset into one edge.
The soft magnesium is scraped with the Striker or a pocket knife into a small pile, which is ignited by scraping the edge of the Flint insert with the striker or a pocket knife.
The magnesium ignites to a temperature of 3000c which is more than enough to light the most stubborn of fires, even if wet.

Chinese food for supper tonight and I had to make my homemade won tons. The kids love them.
Fried Won Ton's:
1 lb Lean Ground Pork (or 1/2 lb pork & 1/2 lb turkey)
1/3 cup water chestnuts, finely chopped
2 whole green onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
2 teaspoons dry cooking sherry
1 egg
1 package (1 lb) won ton skins (At any grocery store in produce aisle)
Combine pork or pork & turkey with water chestnuts, onion, soy, salt, pepper, ginger and sherry until well mixed. Beat egg in a seperate small bowl. Place won ton skin on counter and and place one teaspoon of mixture in one corner. Fold that corner over filling, and roll to tuck point under. Moisten the two side corners with egg. Bring side corners together, overlapping slightly. Pinch together firmly to seal. Place in deep fryer (heated to 360 degrees) and when they turn golden brown they are done, about 2 minutes).
Makes about 6 to 7 dozen.
To spice it up alittle. I like to dip them in a Spicy Peanut Sauce.
Spicy Peanut Sauce:
Stir together 1 1/2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter and 2 1/2 tablespoons salad oil until blended. Stir in 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 teaspoons white vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil, 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper (Cayenne) and 1 tablespoon of minced green onion and 1 tablespoon of fresh coriander (also called Chinese parsley or cilantro). Place in small bowls and use to dip your won tons.
Enjoy.
