This is a photograph from the 41st Rennicks Cup and 38th Father Delany Cup 5 Mile Road Race and 5KM Fun Run organised by Bohermeen AC and held at Bohermeen AC, Ardbracan, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 8th of September 2013 at 12:00. This is great local club support as the race forms part of the Meath Road Race League.

The wonderful atmosphere, the great racing and participation, the work by the club, Meath Athletics, and the local community are a great tribute to the resilience and long tradition of this race. Congratulations to everyone involved. Everything that is good about grassroots athletics and running in Ireland is always on show in Bohermeen.
Bohermeen AC can rightly claim to be one of the most active accredited race organisers in Ireland. In the Spring they host their Spring Half Marathon (see www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157632906920970/), in the summer they host their Patrick Bell 5KM Road Race (see here www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157634010225199/), with proceedings finishing in the early Autumn with the Rennicks Cup. Astonishingly over their 3 race series this year Bohermeen AC have had a total of almost 1,500 participants. These numbers speak for themselves with the proceeds of these races going directly back into the athletics club and grass-roots athletics in the county.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Approximately 150 people took part in the 5 mile event. The 5KM had many families involved.
Weather: The weather was slightly mixed. There was a cool breeze seemingly on the face of runners for many parts of the left handed course. There was a very light sure during the early part of the race whilst later in the race there were some heavier showers.
Course: The race starts just west of the Bohermeen Athletics Track and Club House (about 500 meters from the finish line) and proceeds down the straight road (Newline) passing the club house. The race takes runners over the M3 motorway and the a very sharp left turn uphill at Arbraccan brings the runners heading northwards to another left turn and back up a rise over the M3 motorway again. For the remainder of the race the route is flat with no hills or drags. The section between miles 3 and 4 are sheltered by high hedgerows and passes Durhamstown Castle one of the oldest lived in houses in Ireland. The final mile brings runners into Bohermeen village with the school and church to their left. The race then takes its final left turn back onto the straight newline road where runners pass the start of the race and the final 400 meters which brings runners onto the gravel track and across the finish line.

Refreshments: The folks at Bohermeen AC and the local community a wonderful spread of sandwiches, cakes, buns, teas and coffees in the sports hall afterwards.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

This house is on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property to the East Main Street Historic District in Murfreesboro, TN. Here is a description of this house from the brochure entitled "Explore Historic Murfreesboro - A Walking Tour"
346 East Main Street
Charles Byrn, a hardware merchant, built this Queen Anne–styled house in 1903. Designed by Nashville architect Thomas J. Moore, the house incorporated many modern conveniences, including five bathrooms, a game room, gymnasium, and both gas and electric lights.
Seo Hyun-jin debuted as the lead vocalist of K-pop girl group M.I.L.K in 2001. However, the girl group soon fell by the wayside due to fierce competition among manufactured bands, which led to one of the members quitting before the outfit completely disbanded in 2003.
After M.I.L.K. was dissolved, Seo attended Dongduk Women's University, where she majored in applied music to keep her dream of a career in singing alive. As a solo artist she contributed songs to a few soundtracks and SM Town compilations. When she got a chance to perform in her first musical, The Sound of Music, in 2006, she saw it as a turning point to begin her acting career. Besides joining more theatrical productions, Seo shot a movie and a short drama with boyband DBSK (at the time she and the group were under the agency SM Entertainment).
Supporting roles followed in the TV police procedural H.I.T (2007) and queer film Ashamed (also known as Life Is Peachy, 2011), though Seo got noticed for her subtler performances in period dramas such as Hwang Jini (2006), particularly her career-making performance in The Duo (2011) as a neighborhood tomboy who later becomes a gisaeng. She played her first villain in Feast of the Gods (2012), as an overly ambitious chef caught in a rivalry. Seo was then cast in more leading roles in the period dramas The King's Daughter, Soo Baek-hyang (2013) and The Three Musketeers (2014). But she said the character that most resembled her real-life personality was the foodie freelance writer in Let's Eat 2 (2015), adding that she "didn't realize how much fun shooting a lively and comical drama could be.
Seo has also frequently appeared in projects directed by her best friend, actress Ku Hye-sun, notably short film The Madonna and the feature film Magic, in which she had her first leading role.

The Nicholson Museum holds over 1800 glass-plate negatives taken by Woodhouse while in Greece in 1890s and early 1900s. A small portion of the archive also includes photographs of his family in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. The collection documents important archaeological sites, significant landscapes of the Greek mainland, contemporary buildings and the people he met along the way. His archive is a rich resource capturing many sites pre-archaeological excavation and before modern industrial development. Some of the photographs were published by Woodhouse in his book 'Aetolia: its geography, topography, and antiquities' published in 1897. His desire to capture Greece on 'film', was simply put in his introduction: "History only attains its full value by borrowing actuality from geography and topography". The archive shows his love not only for the sites but also for the people and spirit of Greece.
About the project:
We are asking you to contribute to our documentation of this collection and assist us with the identification of the hundreds of different monuments and places in Greece. The title of each photograph will include the museum registration number (NM2007.##.##) and may already include a place name where museum staff or Woodhouse himself have titled the image.
All of our flikr contributors will be acknowledged when the collection is published through our online collections at the completion of the project.
Rushes contributed a variety of Motion Graphics and CG VFX to bring to life one of the most important events of the 21st century. The story behind the plan to capture one of the world’s most infamous and elusive terrorists, Osama Bin Laden. Working with the project’s Director Bruce Goodison was an engaging process given the secretive world of Government Intelligence. Recreating the look and feel of story behind the events was an interesting creative and technical challenge.
For the Docudrama re-enactments Rushes MGFX Studio team provided a mixture of Motion Graphics to show the different techniques used by Governments and Military to piece together the various types of intelligence available. This included Satellite Tracking, Face and Voice Recognition, Maps and Aerial Reconnaissance. Also included were the Opening Titles sequence and visual treatment of the pre-title opening shots.
Full CG sequences of the Helicopters in operation were created giving the audience an idea of what the Stealth Blackhawks may have looked like and their important role within the mission.

Thomas Carnduff was born in 13 Kensington Street, off Sandy Row, Belfast, on 30 January 1886. He spent his early childhood in Dublin, where he was educated at the Royal Hibernian School and the Royal Military College. He worked as a butcher's boy, in a thread and needle factory, in a printing house, as a drover in a linen factory, and in the Belfast shipyards. While working in the Belfast Steam Print Company from 1906 to 1914 he revelled in the camaraderie of his well-versed, articulate co-workers. He read widely in order to contribute to their stimulating levels of daily debate on the social issues of the time. In 1914 he started work as a plater's helper at Workman, Clarke and Co.
He joined the Young Citizens' Volunteers and in 1916 enlisted in the Royal Engineers, serving at Ypres and Messines. On leaving the army in 1919 he was re-employed at Workman's, remaining there until the firm was wound up in 1935. It was hard, dangerous work, which often involved working at heights - the fear of which Carnduff never entirely overcame. Accidents were a daily occurrence in the yard, and on one occasion he was taken to hospital after suffering injuries from a heavy spanner which had been dropped from 40 feet.
Carnduff was involved in the Labour and trade union movements and active in the Independent Orange Order. He was a friend of Peadar O'Donnell and supported the Connolly Association. All his life he had written poetry, and in 1936 he formed the Young Ulster Literary Society and was a member of the Irish Pen Club. He wrote for several newspapers, including the Bell and published books of poems, one of which was Songs from the Shipyard and Other Poems published in 1924. He wrote many plays: The First Warrant (1930); Workers (1932); Traitors (1934); Castlereagh (1935); Birth of a Giant (1937); The Stars Foretell (1938) and Murder at Stranmillis. Some of these were performed in the Abbey Theatre, Dublin and the Empire Theatre, Belfast; The Birth of a Giant was a play written for radio. His later years were spent working as a caretaker in the Linen Hall Library, where his portrait now hangs.
Thomas Carnduff died on 17 April 1956 leaving behind a legacy of exceptional writing and social commentary. He had used his writings to highlight the plight of the under-privileged and to inspire them to realise their higher potential. He strove to demonstrate that the working classes merited a valued place in modern society. He is buried in Carnmoney Old Cemetery, Co. Antrim.
"The Internal Revenue Service Building is a federal building which serves as the headquarters of the Internal Revenue Service. It is located at 1111 Constitution Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C. (corner of 12th Street), in the Federal Triangle.
It was designed by architects and engineers in the Office of the Supervising Architect under Louis A. Simon, and built from 1928 to 1936. The cornerstone was laid in 1929 by Treasury Secretary Andrew W. Mellon. The building was opened for use in 1930, 16 months ahead of the planned completion date, making it the first Federal Triangle building to be opened.
The building was designated by Congress as a contributing structure to the Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site in 1966, and it was subsequently listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Federal Triangle is a triangular area in Washington, D.C. formed by 15th Street NW, Constitution Avenue NW, Pennsylvania Avenue NW, and E Street NW. Federal Triangle is occupied by 10 large city and federal office buildings, all of which are part of the Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site. Seven of the buildings in Federal Triangle were built by the U.S. federal government in the early and mid-1930s as part of a coordinated construction plan that has been called "one of the greatest building projects ever undertaken" and all seven buildings are now designated as architecturally historic. The Federal Triangle Washington Metro station serves Federal Triangle and the surrounding area.
Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia, also known as just Washington or simply D.C., is the capital city and federal district of the United States. It is located on the east bank of the Potomac River, which forms its southwestern and southern border with the U.S. state of Virginia, and it shares a land border with the U.S. state of Maryland on its other sides. The city was named for George Washington, a Founding Father and the first president of the United States, and the federal district is named after Columbia, the female personification of the nation. As the seat of the U.S. federal government and several international organizations, the city is an important world political capital. It is one of the most visited cities in the U.S. with over 20 million annual visitors as of 2016.
The U.S. Constitution provides for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of Congress; the district is not a part of any U.S. state (nor is it one itself). The signing of the Residence Act on July 16, 1790, approved the creation of the capital district located along the Potomac River near the country's East Coast. The City of Washington was founded in 1791, and Congress held its first session there in 1800. In 1801, the territory, formerly part of Maryland and Virginia (including the settlements of Georgetown and Alexandria), officially became recognized as the federal district. In 1846, Congress returned the land originally ceded by Virginia, including the city of Alexandria; in 1871, it created a single municipal government for the remaining portion of the district. There have been efforts to make the city into a state since the 1880s, a movement that has gained momentum in recent years, and a statehood bill passed the House of Representatives in 2021.
The city is divided into quadrants centered on the Capitol, and there are as many as 131 neighborhoods. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 689,545, which makes it the 23rd most populous city in the U.S. as of 2020, the third most populous city in the Mid-Atlantic, and gives it a population larger than that of two U.S. states: Wyoming and Vermont. Commuters from the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs raise the city's daytime population to more than one million during the workweek. Washington's metropolitan area, the country's sixth largest (including parts of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia), had a 2020 estimated population of 6.3 million residents; and over 54 million people live within 250 mi (400 km) of the District.
The three branches of the U.S. federal government are centered in the district: Congress (legislative), the president (executive), and the Supreme Court (judicial). Washington is home to many national monuments and museums, primarily situated on or around the National Mall. The city hosts 177 foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of many international organizations, trade unions, non-profits, lobbying groups, and professional associations, including the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization of American States, AARP, the National Geographic Society, the American Red Cross, and others.
A locally elected mayor and a 13-member council have governed the district since 1973. Congress maintains supreme authority over the city and may overturn local laws. The District of Columbia does not have representation in Congress, although D.C. residents elect a single at-large congressional delegate to the House of Representatives who has no vote. The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.

The Lidl Run Kildare Events 2013 were held at the Curragh Racecourse, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 12th May 2013. There were three events: a 10KM, a half marathon, and a full marathon. This is a selection of photographs which includes all events. The photographs are taken from the start and finish of the marathon, the finish of the 10KM, and the finish of the half marathon. Due to the large numbers participating we did not manage to photograph everyone - which was not helped by the weather. Congratulations to Jo Cawley and her RunKildare crew for another great event. The weather didn't dampen the spirits of the many happy participants.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

During the war, the U.S. government conducted eight major "War Loan Drives." The scale of the financial contribution was staggering. Approximately $185.7 billion was raised through the sale of war bonds. In today's economy, that would be roughly equivalent to over $3 trillion. To put this in perspective, the total cost of WWII for the United States was about $300 billion. Bond sales covered more than 60% of the war's expenses.
The bond drives were effective not just because of the money, but because of the sheer volume of participants. It remains one of the greatest feats of mass marketing in history. About 85 million Americans (out of a total population of 131 million) purchased at least one bond. By 1944, nearly 85% of American households owned at least one "Series E" bond. This was the most popular bond, designed for the average worker. You could buy a $25 bond for just $18.75, and after ten years, you could redeem it for its full value. Like "Old Joe, Butch, and Dugan" mentioned in the ad, millions of workers signed up for automatic payroll deductions, often contributing 10% of every paycheck to the war effort.
By encouraging people to save rather than spend their high wartime wages, the government prevented prices from skyrocketing. It also gave civilians a tangible way to feel "involved" in the victory, reducing the feeling of helplessness on the home front. Companies like Caterpillar sold the idea that industrial labor was a form of combat. The "Night Shift" theme created a direct emotional link between a factory worker in Peoria and a soldier in the jungle. It suggested that if the worker didn’t "bust a gut" or buy bonds, the soldier might not make it home.
War Bonds Explained:

The Nicholson Museum holds over 1800 glass-plate negatives taken by Woodhouse while in Greece in 1890s and early 1900s. A small portion of the archive also includes photographs of his family in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. The collection documents important archaeological sites, significant landscapes of the Greek mainland, contemporary buildings and the people he met along the way. His archive is a rich resource capturing many sites pre-archaeological excavation and before modern industrial development. Some of the photographs were published by Woodhouse in his book 'Aetolia: its geography, topography, and antiquities' published in 1897. His desire to capture Greece on 'film', was simply put in his introduction: "History only attains its full value by borrowing actuality from geography and topography". The archive shows his love not only for the sites but also for the people and spirit of Greece.
About the project:
We are asking you to contribute to our documentation of this collection and assist us with the identification of the hundreds of different monuments and places in Greece. This is a photograph from the Le Chéíle 'Leixlip 5KM' Road Race, Jog, and Fun Run was held in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday May 4th 2013 at 11:00. This race has steadily grown in stature over the past number of years and now is a well known fixture in the racing calendar in May annually. This was a big aattendance at the race which finished with the last 700 meters on the beautiful new tartan track belonging to Le Cheile AC at the Leixlip Amenities center. As always This was a great race with a great atmosphere. The weather was reasonably good (except for a head wind at a few places on the course). Good race times were reported by many participants. Congratulations to Kevin Roche and all of Le Chéíle AC for their huge volunteer work that goes into making this race the growing success that it is. As always the post race refreshments were awesome with some fabulous treats available for everyone. This year Lidl and Applegreen were title sponsors with support for prizes from Runworx. There was great support from local Kildare clubs and club of the day must go to Sliabh Buidhe Rovers AC of Ferns in Wexford who brought over 30 athletes up on a club day out for the race. The race was supported by FIT Magazine. Junior races for children aged between 7 - 16 years old took place on the track at 10:30 before the main race at 11:00. The race was AAI Permit Approved with a certified course measurement.

Overall Race Summary

Participants: Approximately 320 people took part in both events with runners, joggers, walkers, and families involved.
Weather: This was a nice bright mild morning with a headwind at the 1st and final KM of the race.
Course: The race starts on the road outside the amenities center. There is a signifcant climb up the motorway overpass at 1KM. The stretch from here to 4KM is reasonably flat. There is a final
long drag up to Louisia Bridge and the race finishes with almost 700M on the new athletics track built by the club.
Refreshments: The refreshments after the Le Cheile 5KM have now gained legendary status. Outstanding.

Noah Shachtman the American contributing editor at Wired magazine, and the editor of its national security blog, "Danger Room," who before turning to journalism, Shachtman worked as a professional bass player, book editor, and campaign staffer on Bill Clinton's first presidential campaign, has published an article titled ‘Is This the Secret U.S. Drone Base in Saudi Arabia?’. Shachtman states “…satellite images show a remote airstrip deep in the desert of Saudi Arabia …the base’s hangars bear a remarkable resemblance to similar structures found on other American drone outposts. And its remote location — dozens of miles from the nearest highway, and farther still to the nearest town – suggests that this may be more than the average civilian airstrip. …the U.S. built its secret Saudi base approximately two years ago. Its first lethal mission was in September of 2011: a strike on Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born propagandist for al-Qaida’s affiliate in Yemen, which borders Saudi Arabia. Knowsley Safari Park is a zoological park and tourist attraction in the Knowsley area of Merseyside, England. Knowsley Safari Park is a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). The safari park contributes to conservation and research through links with conservation projects and its links with universities in Liverpool, Chester and Manchester.
History
The park was opened in July 1971 by Edward Stanley, 18th Earl of Derby and Jimmy Chipperfield[9] using the expertise of general manager Laurence Tennant MBE, formerly the Chief Game Warden of Parks in Uganda and Botswana. Initially the road through the park was 3.5 miles (5.6 km), with visitors driving past lions, cheetahs, monkeys, giraffes, zebra, elephants and various antelope. Due to the popularity of this route, an additional 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of road was added in 1973, and camels, buffalo, white rhino, and tigers were added to the park. Over the years, a few modifications have been made. For instance, tigers are now displayed in enclosures within the reserve, and a bypass around the baboons was built for visitors who are worried about damage to their cars.
The park was also home to a former RAF airfield which closed at the end of World War II. The RAF airbase situated at the safari park was also known as No 49 SLG or RAF Knowsley Park and was in use between 13 May 1942 – November 1944.
The park has hosted several sporting events including the Olympic torch relay, watched by 6,000 children and families in June 2012. The park hosted the finish of Stage Two of the 2012 Tour of Britain cycling event and is scheduled to host Stage Three of the 2013 Tour on Tuesday 17 September.
Most recently it hosted the final leg of Big Learner Relay 2017 which has raised over £300,000 for the BBC Children in Need appeal since 2014. Louise Walsh the inspiration behind the BLR has been awarded the prime minister's points of light award which recognises outstanding individual volunteers.
In 1995 Mr William Middleton, a warden at the park, was crushed and paralysed due to a faulty elephant enclosure. Mr Middleton died 12 years later due to complications caused by his injuries.
Zoological collection
Situated around Knowsley Hall on the ancestral estate of the Earl of Derby, the reserve is home to many different animals including elephants, giraffes, lions, bongos, tigers and baboons. The Derby Estate have a tradition of keeping animals, ever since the famous artist and nonsense-poet Edward Lear was employed there in the 19th century to paint pictures of the Earl's collection.
The park is open to the public and customers drive around the park in their own vehicles. There is a bypass route past the baboons for those who wish to avoid the risk of the baboons damaging their cars. In 2009 the baboons made the news all over the world when a video was released showing how they were intelligent and curious enough to open car roofboxes.
Tiger Trail
Amur Tiger Trail opened 25 May 2018, home to the Amur Tiger otherwise known as the Siberian Tiger. The area is 10,000m2 and includes forested areas, natural streams and ponds.
The Equatorial Trail
This exhibit focuses on animals who thrive in habitats around the Earth's Equator. The exhibit also houses the 'Equatorial Express', a small train which visitors can ride to gain a unique viewpoint of the animals. 4 completely different species of animals are housed in this exhibit, the South American tapir, Sitatunga, Rhea and the Capybara.
African Elephant
Until 2017 the park housed a herd of 4 adult cows named Tana, Ashanti, Nala and Juba. They were transported to Zoo Parc d'Beauval, France to enter the European Breeding Programme and allow for transformations on Knowsley Safari's Foot Safari. Knowsley previously housed a bull named Nissim, who collapsed in June 2014. Knowsley also recently lost their cow named Shaba due to a long battle with elephant arthritis.
Southern White Rhinoceros
Knowsley's crash of 11 adult rhinos is one of the most successful and genetically diverse breeding groups in Europe. The latest calf (as at 4 June 2016), Nomvula (Mother of Rain – a reference to the recent wet weather), born to mum Meru and is the 19th to be born at the facility in the last 40 years. Nomvula is Meru's 6th calf and was born on 2 January 2016.
Safari Drive
The Safari Drive is the park's main attraction and contains over 29 species of animals in 7 zones.
Zone 1+11
This zone contains: Père David's deer, Yak, Kiang and Bactrian camel.
Zone 2+8
This zone contains: Blackbuck, Nilgai, Eld's deer, Chital (Axis Deer) and Barasingha.
Zone 3+4+6
Zone 6 is over 100 acres and contains over a mile of road. It is one of Knowsley's two white rhino paddocks and is one of the largest in the UK. This zone contains: Southern White Rhino, Roan antelope, Eland, Lechwe, Wildebeest, Plains Zebra, African Forest Buffalo, Ostritch and Waterbuck.
Zone 5
This zone contains: Blesbok and Bongo
Zone 7
This zone contains exclusively the Olive baboon, which are famous for removing windscreen wipers and other appendages off vehicles. There is a car-friendly route which totally removes this zone however is still visible from outside the perimeter. This leads directly to zone 6.
Zone 9
This zone contains: European Bison, Fallow Deer and European Moose
Zone 10
This zone contains: Lion, and the Somali wild ass. This zone previously housed African wild dog, Iberian Wolf and Siberian Tiger.

Railway and other attractions
The park features a 15 in (381 mm) gauge railway, 'The Lakeside Railway', on which visitors may tour parts of the site. There is also a collection of amusements and fairground rides on site plus paintballing, off-road driving challenges, and aerial extreme ropewalks.
A baboon house was added in 2006, along with African wild dogs that same year, a lion and tiger house in 2007. Red river hogs and marmosets were also added to the walkaround section, as well as an outdoor pool.
Animal care
In January 2011, local animal rights activists held a peaceful demonstration after an inspection by government vets found one instance of a breach of regulations on the disposal of animal ‘by-products’. Pictures in the Daily Mail showed animals lying dead on the ground and in binbags, although the park's directors claim the pictures were staged by the photographer, whose husband the paper claimed had recently lost his job at the park. The park has since installed an enclosure for the storage of animal carcasses before disposal. The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) later said it had ‘full confidence’ in Knowsley and praised its ‘excellent standards of animal husbandry and welfare’.
The Chicago Water Tower is a contributing property in the Old Chicago Water Tower District landmark district. It is located at 806 North Michigan Avenue along the Magnificent Mile shopping district in the Near North Side community area of Chicago, Illinois. The tower was constructed to house a large water pump, intended to draw water from the Lake Michigan; it now serves as a Chicago Office of Tourism art gallery. The Chicago Water Tower is the second-oldest water tower in the United States, after the Louisville Water Tower in Louisville, Kentucky. The tower gained prominence after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. While some incorrectly believe that the tower was the only building to survive the fire, a few other buildings in the burned district survived along with the tower. The tower was the only public building in the burned zone to survive, and is one of just a few of the surviving structures still standing. In the years since the fire, the tower has become a symbol of old Chicago and of the city's recovery from the fire. In 1918, when Pine Street was widened, the plans were altered in order to give the Water Tower a featured location. The tower has undergone two renovations. The first took place during a three-year period, 1913–1916. At that time many of the limestone blocks were replaced. The second renovation occurred in 1978. This renovation consisted mostly of interior changes with only minor changes made to the exterior of the building. The structure has not been universally admired. Oscar Wilde said it looked like "a castellated monstrosity with pepper boxes stuck all over it," although he did admire the arrangement and movement of the pumping machinery inside. The Water Tower's castle-like style inspired the design of many White Castle restaurant buildings.

The telecom encourages the development of innovative and viable sustainable practices to conserve energy, and actively seeks to employ systems into its operations that contribute towards a greener future for the UAE.
Du's many implemented sustainability initiatives include, amongst others:
· Hybrid power solutions at base station sites
In line with the UAE Governments strategy towards sustainable energy and with the objective to reduce the diesel consumption and CO2 emission by 50%, Du has decided to convert all possible off-grid sites to smart hybrid sites by deploying hybrid solution which in this case involves deep cycling batteries and the smart Energy Manager which cycles the site's load between generator and batteries thus reducing the run time of the generator significantly. 137 sites were converted to hybrid power solution as of today. As a result:
- This has led so far to 50% less fuel being consumed, and therefore 50% fewer CO2 emissions;
- Around 1.3M litres of diesel fuel has been saved, which equates to a reduction of 3,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions up
- Decrease in generator runtime by 70%, meaning less air and noise pollution.
By the end of 2014, Du intends to have increased the number of sites using these solutions to 250 across the UAE, with an anticipated saving of 5 million litres of diesel, and consequent reduction of carbon emissions by 12,000 tonnes.
· Increasing Temperature inside BTS shelters
In another initiative and part of "Du green initiatives", Du technology team had increased the temperature set point inside over 2000 BTS sites resulting in 3% energy saving.
· LEED Platinum-certified Green shop in Fujairah City Centre
Du's newest Shop in Fujairah has received the highest LEED rating, Platinum, for its green solutions. These include:
- All lights and air conditioning controlled by sensors to reduce energy consumption;
- Energy star rating on all equipment;
- All wood used in the Shop is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-approved;
- 92% of construction waste was diverted from landfill;
- 42% of furniture and furnishings used in the store are up-cycled;
- Lighting power is reduced by 41%, in comparison to average power;
- 24.5% of materials used in the project were recycled;
- 28.5% of materials used in the project were sourced from within 500 miles of the location;
- 30% more ventilation ensures constant fresh air.
The telecom plans to roll out more green Shops in the future.
· Recycling
Du's efforts to recycle were up by 36% in 2012, meaning more paper waste, cardboard and plastics sent for recycling. The telco achieved its target to recycle at least 50% of paper waste produced.
· Saving power
The implementation of LED lights in Du's Fujairah Contact Centre has reduced lighting power consumption by 53%, in comparison to conventional lights.

Echeveria 'Baron Bold' is a hybrid created by the legendary echeveria hybridizer Dick Wright in 1970. It is a fascinating succulent that forms a rosette of bumpy leaves with red, green, or silver coloring, which varies depending on the season and growing conditions.
Ninety year old Dick Wright (1935- ) is known worldwide for his work as a hybridizer, particularly in the field of horticulture. He specializes in creating new plant varieties, focusing on daylilies and other perennials. Wright has contributed significantly to the development of hybrid plants, emphasizing traits such as color, bloom size, and disease resistance.
The former Atlantic Coast Line railroad depot was built in 1915. The building one and one-half story brick structure features a hip roof which extends beyond the exterior walls of the building that is supported by brackets; a concrete string course; and a dormer on front façade. The former Atlantic Coast Line depot is in the Clio Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property.

About the archive:
The Nicholson Museum holds over 1800 glass-plate negatives taken by Woodhouse while in Greece in 1890s and early 1900s. A small portion of the archive also includes photographs of his family in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. The collection documents important archaeological sites, significant landscapes of the Greek mainland, contemporary buildings and the people he met along the way. His archive is a rich resource capturing many sites pre-archaeological excavation and before modern industrial development. Some of the photographs were published by Woodhouse in his book 'Aetolia: its geography, topography, and antiquities' published in 1897. His desire to capture Greece on 'film', was simply put in his introduction: "History only attains its full value by borrowing actuality from geography and topography". The archive shows his love not only for the sites but also for the people and spirit of Greece.

CAMPBELL & CARLISLE, General Hardware, Wheeling Avenue, Taylor Block.—Among those influential mercantile establishments which contribute to the material and business interests of this city we notice especially the general hardware house of Messrs. Campbell & Carlisle which dates its establishment under the present firm name to 1887. The individual members of this firm are Chas. Campbell and L. E. Carlisle, both of whom are practical and reliable business men of many years experience. Mr. Campbell is a native of Washington county in this State where he was born in 1840. During the war of the rebellion he was among the defenders of the union cause, and in 1861 became a member of company C, 36th regiment O. V. I. in which he served with credit and distinction until July 31, 1865. He was severely wounded at the battle of Cloyd Mountain, Va., 1864, and received his honorable discharge at the close of the war. For a period of ten years he filled the position of ticket agent for the C. & M. railroad at this place and was for four years employed in the general office previous to starting in business in this place. Mr. Carlisle was born in this county in 1864. His early life was spent on the farm and engaged in agricultural pursuits, chiefly, up to the time of engaging in the present business in 1887. This firm occupy a general business room 20 x 60 feet in dimensions besides cellar, and ware house 40 x 60 feet in size, giving ample space for the storage and display of the immense and varied stock carried in this department of our commercial system, embracing farmers' and mechanics' tools, table and pocket cutlery, blacksmiths', painters', wagon makers', miners' and builders' supplies, farm wagons, whips, robes, horse blankets, wood and iron pumps, grates and fire fronts, plows, ladders, window glass, paints, oils, varnishes, etc. The extensive stocks and variety as well as the growing trade this house enjoys fully justifies the extended notice here given.
UNION COAL COMPANY.—The mineral resources of our county are of sufficient interest to demand special consideration at home and abroad. Among those agencies and organizations for developing the coal deposits, we refer to Union Coal Company of this city, miners and shippers of steam and domestic coal. This company was duly organized and incorporated under the laws of the State in 1885 with an original capital stock of $35,000. The officers of the company are D. Mathews, president; Chas. Patzall, secretary and treasurer, and O. P. Mathews, superintendent of Cambridge mines, and J. C. Owens, manager of store at this place. This company now operate five mines and two stores, and as an indication of the out put and hands employed in the busy season their monthly pay roll will average about $30,000.
J. C. CARVER, Notary Public, Real Estate and Loan Agency, Corner Wheeling Avenue and Eighth Street.—There is no pursuit which so forcibly contributes to the thrift and progressive interests of our flourishing towns and cities, nor one which contributes to the convenience and necessities of our farmers and property owners, as that in which Mr. Carver is engaged. Mr. Carver is a native of Harrison county in this State and was born in 1843. After completing his school days he became identified with business pursuits, and during the war of the rebellion was among the number of those who stood ready to sacrifice their lives for the preservation of the Union. In August, 1861, he enlisted as a member of company B, 30th regiment O. V. I., in which he served until the winter of 1861, and the following year he re-enlisted in the 98th regiment O. V. I., in which he filled the creditable and dangerous position of color-bearer receiving his honorable discharge in 1865. After returning to civil life he engaged in farming and other pursuits, merchandising, etc., up to the time of engaging in his present business. He filled the office of both Sheriff and Auditor of his native county, serving as Sheriff four years. As Notary Public he is prepared to take depositions, draw up legal papers, etc. In the real estate department he can offer inducements, having the control of improved and unimproved city property, farms and farming land in various sections of the country. Those desiring to purchase property or negotiate loans in large or small sums will do well to consult Mr. Carver. He gives prompt attention to the collection of rents, payment of taxes and care of property for nonresidents.
S. CRAIG & SON, Dry Goods, Boots, Shoes, Notions, Etc., 800 Wheeling Avenue, Corner Eighth.—It is a notable fact shown by statistics that in the manufacturing department, handling and sales department, the dry goods business employs in the aggregate a larger volume of capital and a larger number of hands than all other branches of manufacture and trade combined. From this we may gather some idea of the magnitude and importance of the department of trade in which Messrs. S. Craig & Son are employed. Mr. S. Craig, the senior member of this firm, is a native of Harrison county in this State and was born in 1810. His father was in the mercantile business and was one of the pioneer merchants of this State so that the senior member of this firm was early inducted into this department of trade and has already been engaged in the business for nearly half a century and came to this county in 1835. In 1882 his son, S. A. Craig, was admitted to partnership, and now assumes the chief management of the business. The premises occupied comprise a fine business building which is the property of this firm, which in its transactions does not require margins to cover rents. The general business room is 20 x 70 feet in dimensions besides another room 12 x 36 feet in size and basement. The stock carried embraces complete lines of newest fabrics in foreign and American dry goods including all popular styles of ladies dress goods and seasonable suitings, domestic goods for home and personal needs, ladies' and men's furnishing, goods, notions and fancy goods, etc. Especially noticeable is the ladies' and Misses' cloak and wrap department in which the attractions are rarely surpassed in our metropolitan cities. The old and established character of this house as well as the extent of its stock and annual transactions fully justifies the extended notice here given.
R. McKAHAN, Surveyor and Notary Public, Office and Residence South Twelfth Street.—Mr. McKahan, who is a native of Washington county, Pa. , was born in 1819. Receiving a liberal education he also studied and followed surveying previous to removing to this county in 1850. Here he followed school teaching, agricultural pursuits and surveying in which he is still engaged up to the time of becoming a resident of this city in 1884. In 1871 he was elected county surveyor in which capacity he gave entire public satisfaction and efficiently filled this office for three successive terms. Mr. McKahan is prepared still to answer calls in surveying and has also held the office of Notary Public since March, 1881. In this position he is prepared to take depositions, protest notes, and to draw or acknowledge wills, deeds, mortgages, contracts or other legal papers according to law.
The cantilever barn was used to shelter livestock in two pens during the colder months. The overhang provided outside shelter for animal and storage space for equipment. It also allowed rain water off the roof to drain at a distance from the pens. The center cut away in the side allowed access to the upper level and a driveway for wagons. The space between the pens works with the continuous vents in the upper loft walls to encourage air circulation, drying the loft's contents. The cantilever construction (counterweighted overhang beams) originated in Europe centuries ago and transferred to southern Appalachia. The barn is in the Cades Cove Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property.
FROM SOURCE TO SKY - Tracking greenhouse gases.
Scientists have long understood that carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere contributes to the “greenhouse effect”—a trapping of energy that results in higher temperatures.
But it was research by atmospheric physicist Aslam Khalil that in 1981 first recognized the rapid increase of another gas in the atmosphere 20 times more potent than CO2: methane.
Khalil, now a professor of physics at Portland State University, is one of the field’s most widely cited experts, as he has worked to understand methane and other greenhouse gases, their sources, and the human and natural behaviors producing them.
In China, farmers began planting a hybrid breed of rice that needed less water. That allowed for periodic draining of rice paddies. By not leaving land flooded year-round, and alternating other crops, Khalil and others found that farmers reduced the anaerobic conditions that produce methane.
His body of work led to the inclusion of a half-dozen greenhouse gases in the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. Over 190 countries worldwide (though not the United States) eventually adopted the international environmental treaty aimed at monitoring and curtailing greenhouse gas emissions.
Much of Khalil’s recent work has focused on methane—a gas 20 times more effective at trapping heat than CO2. As populations grow and urbanize, methane production increases. Seemingly paradoxically, global methane levels in the atmosphere have stabilized over the past two decades even as concentrations of other greenhouse gas levels have increased. Whether this leveling is permanent or just a temporary stay remains unclear.
Computer models and additional research will continue to improve projections of greenhouse gas emissions. But Khalil has come to accept an “irreducible uncertainty” in that science.
“More work in the field is not going to solve these problems,” Khalil says. Taking action to combat global warming will mean moving forward with policies and investments—without definitive answers or guaranteed results. That remains a major stumbling block to advancing climate policies, says Khalil.
For Aslam Khalil, an important piece of the solution is engaging scientists from across disciplines. It also means expanding curriculum to capture growing interest from students.
His undergraduate course, “The Earth’s Atmosphere: Global Change and Human Life” (Physics 375), is open to non-majors and one of only a handful in the nation to explore the systems that intertwine climate change and human (anthropogenic) activities. He is also developing a textbook addressing the topic.
Khalil was lead author of the Oregon Climate Assessment Report’s chapter on “Climate change in Oregon: Defining the problem and its causes.” Commissioned by the Oregon State Legislature and published in December 2010, the document is the first comprehensive assessment of climate issues facing Oregon.

The Taurus 15 is named so because the special ammunition, which only this weapon is chambered in, hits like a charging bull and can easily knock armored foes on their ass.
The T-15 (The shortened name) is often issued in Private Sector security firms, and the CQC variant is widely used on starships. The tight quarters makes a full-sized firearm unwieldy, but the PDW size of the T-15 allows for easy handling.
Common sense would dictate that a hard-hitting rifle without a stock would be very inefficient. The T-15 Mk. It was notorious for its accuracy-hampering recoil, throwing shot groups off wildly. The weapon's developers at Heliarc Industries realized this fatal flaw after first release, and have since improved the design.
The T-15 is a hybrid of gunpowder and gauss technology. A smaller cartridge is used now, resulting in a superbly manageable recoil pattern, while a small series of electronic coils inside the weapon accelerate the already gas-propelled projectile. As such, the smaller round achieves astonishing speeds, clocked at upwards of 6000 m/s.

This is a photograph from the 60th Anniversary Commerative Half Marathon for Tullamore Harriers AC which was held on Saturday 31st August 2013 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 12:00. This was a really great event and there couldn't be any fault found with any aspect of the race. There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event.

This race celebrates the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joing routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The race today brings competitive national road racing back to The Harriers. In the past there was the famous Quinnlan Cup
Festival of Races (see a link below for some nostalgia) which was one of Ireland's Blue Ribband events. Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was about 500 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.
Weather: The midday start seen warm pleasant conditions for running. The layout of the course meant that there was a stiff breeze into the face of competitors for the first few miles. When the race turned around to return to Tullamore the wind was more favourable to runners.
Course: The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course.

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, home-made breads, etc in the Harriers clubhouse afterwards. People were able to enjoy their post race refreshments outside in the warm pleasant sunshine.

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

1893 Frederick Louis Maytag arrived in Iowa by covered wagon. F.L., his two brothers-in-law, and George W. Parsons each contributed $600 for a total of $2,400 to start a new farm implement company named Parsons Band-Cutter & Self Feeder Company. They produced threshing machines, band-cutters, and self-feeder attachments invented by Parsons.
1893 Threshing machine-related injuries were all too common and a strong need for a safer threshing machine was present. The company successfully met this need by developing a threshing machine feeder, a device which fed straw more safely into the threshing cylinder.
1902 The company was the largest feeder manufacturer in the world, and by 1904, the Ruth was the most popular model.
1905 Maytag introduced the Success Corn Husker and Shredder.
1907 Maytag's first washing machine, the "Pastime", was produced. F.L. Maytag decided to produce these machines during the periods of seasonal related downturns in the farm implement sales. The "Pastime" washers utilized a wooden tub. A dolly was turned by a hand crank via wooden pegs. This turning action would pull clothes through the water and force the clothes along the corrugated tub sides producing cleaning action. A pulley device was provided to the machine allowing it to be operated from an outside power source such as a tractor or windmill.
1911 A model of the Pastime with an electric motor was unveiled.
1915 Maytag developed its Multi-Motor gasoline engine washer. This allowed customers in rural areas without electricity to utilize the automatic washers.
The Whirlpool Corp. completed its acquisition of Maytag on April 1, 2006

The old Clifton Jail, a rock bastille blasted out of the side of the mountain was built in 1878. Many of the West's real badmen were incarcerated in it at one time or another. It is one of the State's most famous jails.
It was contributed to the Lesinsky brothers, who built the first copper smelter on Chase Creek.
Before the building of the jail, evildoers were punished by being sentenced to work in the mines. Many of them escaped before they completed their sentence leaving the county. The Lesinskys decided to have a jail built to hold them.
The job of cutting the stone jail was given to Margarito Varela, a stone worker. Varela worked away at the face of the cliff with pick and drill and blasting powder. A small room was made to hold the more dangerous criminals. A larger one, 8 feet wide and 20 feet long was built for those whose offenses which were of a milder nature. Both of the cells were fitted with massive iron bars which were 2 inches wide and 3/4 of an inch thick. The doors were of the same material, pivoting on two-inch solid iron rods. The two windows of the jail were 10 feet above the floor. Although it didn't look like much, it was absolutely escape-proof. It was said that no men ever escaped from the jail.
Tradition says that when Varela finished his job he decided to celebrate. Varela invested his profits in snakehead whiskey. He was so happy that the jail was finished he pulled his gun and proceeded to shoot up Hovey's Dance Hall to attract the peoples attention and to tell them the jail was finished. The proprietor of the salon was also the deputy sheriff and arrested him. Varela became the first guest in his own jail.
The old stone jail was the Town of Clifton's only bastille for many years. When the jail was first built, it was higher than the town and was approached by climbing up the mountain to enter it. Sediment from subsequent floods gradually raised the ground level even with the entrance to the jail. The great flood of 1906 flooded the jail to a great depth, and the prisoners were taken out by ropes through a small window high up in the roof. That was the last time the jail was used. It soon became filled with mud and debris. In 1929 Mayor Peter Riley of Clifton started a movement to have the old bastille restored.

Family planning can prevent closely spaced and ill-timed pregnancies and births, which contribute to some of the world’s highest infant mortality rates. A study tracking more than 1 million children in 42 developing countries showed that a child is three times more likely to make it to his or her 5th birthday if the mother spaces the births of her children by at least three years. Infants of mothers who die as a result of giving birth also have a greater risk of death and poor health.
