Contractor Norman Hudson (left) and a worker talk about the stucco work for this large single-family dwelling in extremely upscale Fountaingrove. The house replaces another large single-family dwelling that burned down, like most of its neighbors, in the 2017 fires.
The growing popularity of Penarth beach and the need for better communications with Cardiff led to the Cardiff Steam and Navigation Company starting a regular ferry service between Cardiff and Penarth in 1856, which continued until 1903. Boats were loaded and unloaded at Penarth using a landing stage on wheels which was hauled up the beach.[1]
In the 1880s an attempt was made to construct a permanent pier, because of the need to find a safer way to unload larger boats. However, construction ground to a halt at an early stage when the London-based contractors went into liquidation.[1]

Ok, So I've had this Fuji X100F for a couple of weeks now and can't make up my mind if I love it or hate it. On the plus side it's small, mirrorless and inconspicuous, meaning I can get away with a bit more street photography without being glared at!
However, the ergonomics of the camera are painful. The grip if far to small, and as a result it's easy to accidentally knock one of the four buttons on the command dial. I've disabled two of them, but it's impossible to disable the "drive" button. As a result today I managed to knock the camera into "filters" mode without realizing it and spent 10 minutes trying to work out what I'd done. Somehow it also switch from raw mode to jpg mode at the same time which I didn't realize until I got home, at which point I gave the camera a stream of four letter words.
This image has been produced from memory and may need a little tweaking if it prompts anyone to offer photographic evidence (I recall seeing a picture a few years ago). George Stephenson & Company Limited of Bishop Auckland was one of the largest building contractor in south-west Durham. The yards at Bishop Auckland and Tindale Crescent were an Aladdin's Cave to anyone interested in elderly vehicles - particularly ex-military kit. My favourites were the Leyland Hippo tippers with the 'RAF' style cabs (as per the pressure refuellers).
Bus-wise Stephensons had operated pre-war Bristol J-Types and post-war L-Type before acquiring this Bristol LS (I imagined there were more but this is the only one that I can be sure of). New in 1955 to United Automobile Services as VHN 899 (fleet number BU99), it was withdrawn in 1971, passing to Stephensons for staff transport. The company ceased trading sometime in the late 1970s.

The Pueblo Arcade is a historic building in Vero Beach, Florida. Located at 2044 14th Street, the Pueblo Arcade was built in the Mission/Spanish Revival style in 1926 by local contractors Blackford and Davis. This structure was very popular among the citizens of Vero Beach due to its ingenious design, prior to the introduction of Air Conditioning. It consisted of arcades with shop doorways opening onto a single hallway which opened to the street. The structure was restored by developer Robert L. Brackett and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on March 8, 1997.

Built between 1856 and 1865, this opulent Italianate-style house with Greek Revival elements was constructed by prominent local Irish-born contractor Patrick O'Donnell (1806-1882). Starting in 1907, the house was the home of Josephine Pinckney (1895-1957), whom lived here until 1937. The house was bought by the Preservation Society of Charleston in 1987, with the intention of converting it into a museum and their offices, a plan which was ultimately dropped due to opposition from neighbors. The house has since undergone a thorough, period-correct restoration.
He's a battle-hardened, certified badass. With pouches and armor covering all but his tattoos, his load is double the average weight, but he acts as if it is only a feather. I took several different vests and random pieces to make this guy. I think he turned out well. Tell me what you guys think!
Spotted outside the fence for Railway Service Contractors, Inc. waiting to be picked up by the UP is CEFX GP38-2 No. 3839.
This engine began life in March of 1979 for the Southeast Coal Co. as SECX No. 3821, one of three GP38-2's they had purchased brand new complementing their ALCO switchers and second-hand GP20's. When Southeast Coal Co. went bankrupt, National Railway Equipment purchased it and leased it to the Chicago & Northwestern, becoming CNW No. 4701 in December of 1991. UP absorbed the CNW four years later and it then became the UP No. 2070, late the UP No. 400. In October of 2003, the operating lease expired and was returned to CIT Financial Group, used in the lease fleet as CEFX No. 400 and eventually renumbered to 3839 as it is today. 8/3/24.

Forty years ago today, 4 September 1982, RM 514 would almost certainly have been spending its first day as an officially withdrawn bus along with around two hundred RM`s de-blinded and ready for transfer away from their home garage to storage. Most would end up being dismantled for scrap including this one though it hung on at Aldenham until the following Spring being one of the last to be broken up there by outside contractors who worked their way through almost one hundred RM`s over the course of six months. I caught it at New Cross Garage on 21 August 1982 when it had just a couple of weeks left.

Circa 2026. The last Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, owned by a billionaire collector, assigns 3 private military contractors to guard it 24/7.
The Fox Valley has had an impressive concentration of industry (mainly papermaking) and a maze of tracks to serve those industries for about 150 years. Over that time the fortunes of the C&NW, MILW and SOO would rise and fall several times. With those changing fortunes the paper traffic would be at times neglected, taken for granted or abused by the railroads. Wisconsin Central made a concerted effort to serve the area well and had much success. Canadian National may not have that same focus as WC did and the industry has faced larger struggles of its own.
I've seldom seen more of a stark visual example of a business giving up on rail and in favor of trucking. The rails still cross the street here on North Lake St but they don't go anywhere or connect to anything. Where there once was a bank of boxcar loading docks there is a new set of six tractor trailer bays. I don't know the whole story, and it seems this may not be a paper company anymore but perhaps a warehouser or distribution center. Regardless, it's yet another source of rail traffic gone forever.
