In speaking with one of my counterparts we both agree that since mid November we have seen a decline in the presence of the Great White visitor from the North.

Going from 12 plus in a single day to yesterday with only 3 owls spotted...and only 1 that permitted to be photographed.

Hopefully there will be some that setup on a territory and stick around...so the search continues.

Continuing to photograph, edit, then take apart old MOCs so I can clear shelf space for newer stuff. This model was an experiment building a small cargo vehicle with an interior. There is a second room behind the cockpit divider which was smaller than I hoped when I started. Large enough for a brick-built bed, but nothing else.

Built in March 2019.

NASA Sees Post-Tropical Cyclone Bonnie Lingering Along Coast by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center

Bonnie is now a post-tropical storm, and continues to linger along the coast of South Carolina. NASA's RapidScat analyzed the winds of the storm, while NOAA's GOES-East provided a visible look at the storm's location and extent.

On May 30 at 4:40 a.m. EDT (0840 UTC) RapidScat saw strongest sustained winds near 18 meters per second (40 mph/64 kph) east of the center of Post-Tropical Storm Bonnie (the center was over land). Sustained winds were much weaker around the rest of the system. RapidScat flies aboard the International Space Station and can measure winds on the ocean's surface. Forecasters are able to use RapidScat data to pinpoint the strongest winds within a storm, as they are not always equally distributed.

At 5 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 Bonnie's center of circulation was located near latitude 33.3 north...and longitude 78.9 west. That's about 29 miles (47 km) south of Myrtle Beach and about 65 miles (105 km) north-northeast of Charlestown municipal airport, South Carolina. Bonnie continued to produce light showers along the U.S. East Coast.

Continuing on with this series, taken on the same day but a different location, this being Hermitage Park in Edmonton.

With most lakes and ponds still frozen it was nice to see open water at this part of Hermitage Park. Open water means reflections, and with a blue sky overhead and winterized vegetation in the background some lovely colours were seen.

So great to see Ducks again.

The Malginus Arbor continues it's rampage trough Studdaheim Square and fixes it's gaze upon a young brave knight risking his very life, sworn to defend his city.

Sigfig Swordsman sees the tree monster's malicious intentions and quickly races into action to save the knight before the Malginus Arbor can attack the knight with it's deadly pointed tree branch...

Continuing up the street from The Bell pub, posted yesterday, is this delightful row of homes. The pub is obscured by the large tree. Oddly, there is a vary large rock situated right in the middle of the pavement / sidewalk.

Continuing along footpath ZX383 towards Stalisfield and the clouds thickened and the temperature dropped. Its not uncommon to snow up here on top of the Downs and there was an air of ice crystals, small sharp stabs on uncovered skin, now that would be fun.....

On one painterly after-sunset the other day, I had an out-of-body and lens experience on cityscapes of Toronto... and have been transported instantly into these cosmic dimensions that mixed all elements together as if it's a painterly whirlpool nebulae if some sort...

...all brought to you by my manual zoom and ICM magic :-)

*Added a thin layer of textures to reinforce the feel, but other than that it's a SOOC image, manual zooming & intentional camera movement during long exposure, no other processing involved.

How about another frame of this awesome scene just as they start pulling south out of town.

CSXT's Troy Industrial Track is a six mile long branch line that connects with the Amtrak controlled Hudson Line just north of the Albany-Rensselaer station at the east end of the Livingston Avenue bridge. The former New York Central route is the last active rail line into the Collar City which at one point in the early 20th century was the fourth wealthiest city in the nation. The city once had lines radiating in four directions serving a grand Union Station downtown.

The four railroads that originally formed the Troy Union Railroad were the Rensselaer and Saratoga (D&H), Troy and Boston (B&M), Troy and Greenbush (NYC) and Schenectady and Troy (NYC). That's how the NYC ended up with half ownership of the TURR, and the others each had one quarter.

This surviving spur began as the Troy and Greenbush Railroad which was chartered in 1845 and opened later that year, connecting Troy south to East Albany (now Rensselaer) on the east side of the Hudson River. It was the last link in an all-rail line between Boston and Buffalo and until bridges were built between Albany and Rensselaer, passengers crossed on ferries while the train went up to Troy, crossed the Hudson River, and came back down to Albany.

The Hudson River Railroad was chartered in 1846 to extend this line south to New York City and the full line opened in 1851. Prior to completion, the Hudson River leased the Troy and Greenbush and all would come into the hands of Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1864 who then three years later combined it with his New York Central Railroad to have the entire New York City to Buffalo route under his control. A decade after that Vanderbilt would gain control over the lines to Chicago uniting the famed 'water level route' under one banner that would grow to be one of the worlds greatest rail systems in the first half of the 20th Century.

CSXT is the direct corporate successor of the New York Central by way of Penn Central in 1968, then Conrail in 1976, and CSXT in 1999. Despite occasional fear of the line's demise they continue to serve it three days a week with a local out of South Schenectady that travels via the Carmen Branch and the Hudson Line via West Albany hill and LAB to get to this branch.

CSXT local L020 has 17 cars trailing two ACSES equipped ex Chessie GP40-2s as they air test their train near MP 5 on the branch. Rising at right is the building known locally as The Fortress. Dating from 1902 the original name of the building is the United Waste Manufacturing Company Building, and it was built as a storage facility for wool and cotton shoddy. Today it is home to a high end antiques dealer and to learn more here is a cool blog post I found that is worth a read.

I continue to be impressed with what this new Samsung phone can do at night with stationary shots like this. Early on a Friday morning while making my rounds in the yard everybody's favorite oddball painted locomotive rests on a set on track Layover 3 West in Yard 14 waiting for their morning departure.

GP40MC 1136 was originally blt. Jan. 1975 by GMDD as a GP40-2LW CN 9599 and rebuilt ny Alstom in 1997. In 2019-2020 it was rebuilt again by MassDOT at their facility in Rochester and was released for service in this blue scheme.
