This is a photograph from the 3rd annual running of The Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs New Year Road Challenge which was held in Collinstown, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday 11th January 2015 at 13:00. There were two races on offer today - a 10KM road race and a 5KM road race, fun run, and walk. This is one of the first road races in the midlands of the New Year 2015. As this was a community orientated event families were especially welcome in the 5KM race. The race was organised to raise funding for the development of the GAA pitches for the Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs. Overall this was a very successful event with a very large field of well over 300 participants in both races combined. The great local effort was exemplified by a very big local contingent from Collinstown and neighbouring areas.
The 5KM race was an out and back course on the Collinstown to Fore Road. The 10KM was also on an out and back course with a deviation between 2KM and 7KM for the longer race. There were several tough hills but an equal amount of down-hill. There was a bitter cold wind on the backs of participants of the 10KM for the first half of the race which unfortunately turned to become a headwind for the return stretch to the finish. The turn around on the course for the 10KM came at Doyle's Pub [goo.gl/maps/WxPSy - Google Streetview] at Glenidan. Refreshments were served afterwards in the Lough Lene Inn where the prize ceremony was also held.
Due to the inclement weather and poor lighting we had to, unfortunately, delete a lot of our photographs as there were very many blurs and fuzzy pictures. However, we have an extensive set of photographs from today's events on the following Flickr Photoset Page: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157649832542838/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!

This is a photograph from the first annual running of the Edenderry Athletic Club 10 Mile Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Edenderry, Co. Offaly, Ireland on Easter Monday, 28th March 2016 at 12:00. The race today also included the Offaly AAI Clubs 10 Mile Road Race championships which was open to any fully registered athlete who is a member of an athletics club in Co. Offaly. In total over 200 people took part in the event which drew a large contingent from Co. Offaly but also from clubs and locations around the midlands and leinster. The race was very well organised and started close to the Edenderry Tullamore Road at Kilfane Cross and proceeded to head North Eastwards towards the village and townland of Rhode, Co. Offaly before turning back (at around 4.5 miles) for the return to Edenderry and the finish. The race route crosses the Grand Canal at two points between 4.5 miles and 7 miles. Overall the windy conditions certainly did not help runners in the first five miles as this acted as a head wind. Otherwise the weather was cold, clear and bright. The return to Edenderry seen runners run the 1st mile in reverse and return to the finish line in Oakland's Community College in the center of the town. There were water stations at two points on the route and all major junctions and laneways were well stewarded. Traffic was also controlled on the roads to allow the race to proceed safely. The timing and event management was provided by PopupRaces.ie

Czech Tatra 603 saloon fronts an amazing 4000 miles-from-new Polish FSO. These were just two of the cars on the second SALT Rally, pictured here at Orford in Suffolk.
The second SALT (Soviet Auto Luxury Tour) Rally was held in and around Framlingham in Suffolk, over the weekend of June 6-8 2008. This is a rally for classic cars made during the Cold War period - 1945-91. We visit places of Cold-War interest, and enjoy some great touring and comradeship along the way. Although SALT largely features vehicles built under Communism, no political statement is intended or should be implied.
May 1st was a long day in New York, the activities began very early and many were held at various locations throughout the day.
People of the OccupyWallStreet Movement (OWS) met up early in Bryant Park from there, they started to carry out 99 pickets in front of corporations, restaurants, etc.
Later the GuitarArmy contingent left Bryant Park to go to Union Square, where a coalition of immigrants, unions and OWS held an event and then marched to Wall St.
At night OccupyWallStreet held a general assembly and the police evicted them from the square at 10pm, men and women of the Veterans for Peace, were arrested for not leaving the park, as they intended to re-occupy it.
Throughout the day, the police brutally attacked demonstrators, but especially at night when there was less light and fewer people. The NYPD attacked and arrested aribitrarily people who were part of the crowd.

British soldiers in Malakal have provided vocational training to hundreds of youth since their arrival here in 2017. Some of the skills they’ve gained include carpentry and bricklaying – both very crucial in the season of the rebuilding of South Sudan’s second largest town. The engineering taskforce was the United Kingdom’s commitment to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). With a deployment of nearly 300 troops. It was the largest deployment of UK military personnel in UN peacekeeping operations in the last two decades. The UK taskforce will complete it’s tour of duty in South Sudan this month.

Independence Day is commonly known as the 4tth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemoration the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. It is also a reminder for those who have been deployed of just how important freedom is.
More than 190 guests came out to celebrate with Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC) US contingent to enjoy games, food and fun. Everyone got a tutoring session on some US history and some enjoyed watching the 50 states appear across the screen and the things that represented them.
There was entertainment all around for everyone to enjoy, with two bouncy castles for the kids, and entertainment room for movies and even a mechanical bronco for anyone who wanted to give it a go. To add to the US flavor there was lots and lots of dancing.
In Brig. Gen. Richard G. Kaiser’s, DCOS OPS welcoming speech he made a comment referring to the “melting pot”
The “melting pot is a metaphor, used in the 1780’s for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogeneous, the different elements “melting together into a harmonious whole with a common culture.
During the 4th of July celebration you could understand how it was the perfect use of the word. The close working relationships between the nations tend to over flow into personal relationships and cultural differences, however that is what is so unique and interesting for nations to come out and see some of each other’s history and cultures.
