*********************************

In early July, we ventured out to Spearfish, SD for a family reunion with a large contingent of my extended family.

When the reunion ended, we drove back into Rapid City to spend a final night at the Alex Johnson hotel … and were taken by surprise when the streets surrounding the hotel were blocked off, forcing us to park a couple blocks away and haul our suitcases down to the hotel’s front entrance. It turns out that the streets had been blocked for a vintage car show — which consisted of dozens of brightly-painted, highly-buffed and polished old cars parked along the streets all around the hotel. After we had checked in, I went out to photograph the artist’s alley in more detail than had been possible when we first arrived a couple days later; and then, for good measure, I walked around the block a couple times, and photographed all of the fancy cars.

Here is my current Australian Army contingent.

Left to Right as follows

ASLAV 25 reconnaissance, Unimog Special Air Service Mothership, Sikorsky S70A-9 Blackhawk, Land Rover 4x4 Recon Surveillance Vehicle, SAS Land rover 6x6 Long Range Patrol Vehicle and the ASLAV Phase 3 Recovery variant.

The two Land Rovers and ASLAV’s are my take on brickmania’s models with my own touch and modification to suit the looks of the Australian Army versions.

Hope you all enjoy :-)

FACT.

ALL atheistic, natural origin of the universe scenarios are false. The conclusive proof is presented here.

The proof is categorised as follows:

1. Contingent

2. Temporal

3. Temporary

The fact that EVERY natural entity or event is all three

(contingent, temporal and temporary) definitively rules out a natural entity as the origin or first cause of the universe.

The universe cannot possibly be the result of purely natural processes as atheism requires.

_________________________________________

Contingent.

All, natural entities/events are contingent.

They all require causes, and the scope, extent and potential of their properties/abilities relies entirely on their cause/s.

Their effects/properties are limited to the adequacy of their cause/s. They cannot exceed, in any respect, the abilities or properties of that which causes them.

This is supported by the Law of Cause and Effect.

'Every natural effect requires a cause' AND ‘An effect cannot be greater than its cause/s’.

A first cause of everything cannot be contingent, it must be entirely autonomous and non-contingent. Not reliant on, nor limited by, any preceding cause or causes. It cannot be inferior, in any respect, to anything else that ultimately exists (entirely self-sufficient & self-reliant).

Therefore, the first cause of everything cannot be a natural entity or event. This rules out every, proposed, natural origin of the universe scenario as a possible, first cause.

Logically, by virtue of the first cause being FIRST, it had to be uncaused (non-contingent). If it was caused it couldn't be FIRST, as it would be preceded by another cause..

_________________________________________

Temporal.

All, natural entities/events are temporal. They all have a beginning within a physical, time frame. They all begin to exist at some point in time. That which is temporal requires a cause. Therefore, a first cause of everything cannot be a natural entity of event.

A first cause of everything cannot be temporal, it cannot have had a beginning and cannot be subject to time. If any proposed, first cause began to exist at some time in the past, it would have required a preceding cause for its own existence, and therefore could not be the 'FIRST' cause. This rules out all natural scenarios, such as as a Big Bang explosion or a singularity, as possible, first causes. They are all temporal, and that is a fact.

The first cause has to be eternally and infinitely, self-existent, not temporal.

_________________________________________

Temporary.

All, natural entities/events are temporary.

As well as having a beginning within a physical time frame, they also face an eventual demise at some point in time.

This is enshrined in the Second Law of Thermodynamics, or more specifically, the law of entropy.

All, natural things deteriorate, and will ultimately come to an end.

Therefore, the first cause of everything cannot be a natural, entity or event. That is a fact.

The first cause of everything cannot be temporary, it cannot be subject to entropy and deterioration through the passage of time, because its powers and potential would have diminished and ultimately ceased to exist at some point in an eternal past. It could not have survived, or have had the sustained power, to be the first cause.

And an infinitely, long chain of natural causes and effects is impossible. Because, as each cause in the chain is subject to entropy, the chain as a whole would also be subject to entropy, thus deteriorating and diminishing in potential, over time.

_________________________________________

Conclusion:

Logic, supported by science, reveals that the first cause of everything cannot possibly be a natural entity or event. Therefore, ALL atheistic, natural origin of the universe scenarios are patently false. That is a fact.

The first cause of everything HAD to be a supernatural entity (a Creator God). There is no other logical or credible option.

The Biblical claim; the fool hath said in his heart “there is no God” (Psalm 14:1) is wholly justified and true.

Only a fool would attempt to claim otherwise.

_________________________________________

The implications of the Law of Cause and Effect clarified.

Consider this short chain of causes and effects:

A causes B, - B causes C, - C causes D, - D causes E.

'A, B, C & D' are all causes and may all look similar, but they are not, there is an enormous and crucial difference between them.

Causes B, C & D are fundamentally different from cause A.

Why?

Because A is the very first cause and thus had no previous cause. It exists without a cause. It doesn’t rely on anything else for its existence, it is completely independent of causes - while B, C, D & E would not exist without A. They are entirely dependent on A.

Causes; B, C & D are also effects, whereas A is not an effect, only a cause.

So we can say that the first cause ‘A’ is both self-existent and necessary. It is necessary because the rest of the chain of causes and effects could not exist without it. We also have to say that the subsequent causes and effects B, C, D and E are all contingent. That is; they are not self-existent they all depend entirely on other causes to exist.

We can also say that A is eternally self-existent, i.e. it has always existed, it had no beginning. Why? Because if A came into being at some point, there must have been something other than itself that brought it into being … which would mean A was not the first cause (A could not create A) … the something that brought A into being would be the first cause. In which case, A would be contingent and no different from B, C, D & E.

We can also say that A is adequate to produce all the properties of B, C, D & E.

Why?

Well in the case of E we can see that it relies entirely on D for its existence, E can in no way be superior to D because D had to contain within it everything necessary to produce E. The same applies to D it cannot be superior to C, but furthermore neither E or D can be superior to C, because both rely on C for their existence, and C had to contain everything necessary to produce D & E.

Likewise with B, which is responsible for the existence of C, D & E.

As they all depend on A for their existence and all their properties, abilities and potentials, none can be superior to A whether singly or combined. A had to contain everything necessary to produce B, C, D & E including all their properties, abilities and potentials.

Thus we deduce that; nothing in the universe can be superior in any way to the very first cause of the universe, because the whole universe, and all material things that exist, depend entirely on the abilities and properties of the first cause to produce them.

So to sum up … a first cause must be uncaused, must have always existed, without any deterioration, and cannot be in any way inferior to all subsequent causes and effects. In other words, the first cause of the universe must be eternally, self-sufficient, self-existent and omnipotent (greater than everything that exists).

It must be non-contingent, non-temporal and non-temporary. No natural entity can have those attributes, that is why a Supernatural, Creator God MUST exist.

_________________________________________

Polytheism? Why only one God?

What about polytheism, can there be more than one God or Creator.

It is obvious there can only be one, supernatural, first cause.

The first cause is infinite - and logically, there cannot be more than one infinite entity.

If there were two infinite entities, for example, A and B. The qualities and perfections that are the property of B would be a limitation on the qualities and perfections of A. and vice versa, so neither would be infinite.

If A & B had identical qualities and perfections they would not be two different entities, they would be identical and therefore the same entity, i.e. a single, infinite, first cause. So there can be only one infinite being or entity, only one supernatural, first cause and creator of the universe.

So when atheists keep repeating the claim - that there is no reason to believe the monotheistic, Christian God is any different from the multiple, gods of pagan religions, it simply displays their ignorance and lack of reasoning.

For this reason the Christian Trinity is not 3 gods, but rather 3 aspects or facets of the same, single God:

"I am in the Father and the Father is in me" John:14-20

Supernaturalism, naturalism or magic?

Does the first cause of everything have to be a supernatural one? Or is this idea (as atheists claim) just a desperate attempt by ignorant people to fill a gap in scientific knowledge, by saying - God did it?

What does 'supernatural' mean? It means something outside of nature. Something which cannot be explained by science or by natural processes.

The origin of the Universe must be a supernatural event.

The origin of the universe cannot be explained by genuine science, natural laws or by natural processes. And that is an undeniable FACT.

Why?

Because EVERY possible explanation by natural processes (naturalism) violates both the fundamental principle of the scientific method - the Law of Cause and Effect - and other natural laws.

Hence, the first cause, by virtue of the fact that it cannot be explained by science or natural processes, automatically qualifies as a supernatural entity/event (supernaturalism).

To insist that the first cause must be a natural entity or event is to invoke a magical explanation, not a scientific one. The only choice, therefore is between a supernatural first cause or a magical one? A natural event that is purported to defy natural laws and scientific principles can only be described as MAGIC. And that is exactly what atheists propose. They cynically dress up their belief - that nature can evade natural laws - as science, but genuine science certainly cannot contemplate a causeless, natural event or entity, genuine scientists do not look for non-causes.

_______________________________________

Is atheist naturalism science or just paganism naturalism re-invented?

No one has ever proposed a natural explanation for the origin of the universe that does not violate the law of cause and effect and other natural laws. But, whenever atheists are challenged about this fact, they always make the excuse that the laws of nature/physics somehow DID NOT APPLY to their proposed, natural origin scenario.

The most, well known case of this excuse is the alleged 'Singularity' which, it has been claimed, preceded the Big Bang. Remember, it is claimed to be a "one-off event where the laws of physics did not apply." A natural event that defied natural laws! - That used to be called 'magic', before atheist, so-called 'scientists' hi-jacked science with their religion of naturalism - the worship of an All Powerful, autonomous, Mother Nature.

Excuses aren't science. A natural event that violates natural laws is by definition, not possible. There are no ifs, buts or maybes, natural things are bound by natural laws, without question.

Natural laws describe the inherent properties of natural entities and how they react according to those properties. They cannot exceed, in any way, the scope of behaviour dictated and limited by their properties. The whole basis of science is that every natural entity/event is contingent - has to have an ADEQUATE CAUSE.

The idea of 'laws not applying' to a natural event, is not science. It is just fantasy.

The Law of Cause and Effect is more than just an ordinary law, it is an overriding, fundamental principle of existence, not just a property of matter/energy like the Law of Gravity. It has been called the law of laws, because it applies to everything temporal; i.e. everything which begins to exist. Which means it applies to everything, except the single, first cause of everything.

If the origin of the universe is inexplicable to science, within the accepted framework of normal, natural processes and natural laws, then it is a supernatural event.

You cannot claim something as a natural event that violates natural laws, (i.e. exceeds the scope of its potential based on its own intrinsic properties). For that reason it is inexplicable to science.

In fact. to claim that something natural can defy natural laws is anti-science.

Those who promote such nonsense are enemies of science.

ALL NATURAL explanations for the origin of the universe violate the Law of Cause and Effect and other natural laws.

Conclusion: the atheist belief in a natural explanation for the origin of the universe (i.e. that Mother Nature did it) is impossible - according to science.

______________________________________

Did natural laws exist at the beginning?

An argument, often used by atheists, that we don’t know what natural laws existed at the beginning of the universe is a desperate attempt to evade the fact that natural laws are fatal to a natural origin (or natural, first cause) of the universe.

It is a nonsensical argument because, as I have already stated, natural laws describe the operation/behaviour of natural entities, according to their inherent properties, those properties don’t change.

The Law of Cause and Effect is exceptional. Nothing can evade the law of cause and effect.

Even if we accept the bizarre possibility that some natural laws could have been different at (or prior to) the beginning of the universe, it is irrelevant to the Law of Cause and Effect. That law is an exception.

Why?

Because, as previously explained, the Law of Cause and Effect is in a different category from all other laws, which are based solely on the inherent properties of natural things.

It would be better described as an eternal truth and fundamental principle, rather than just a law.

It is a unique and overriding principle of existence, different from other physical laws which are just pertinent to, and properties of, natural entities. It has rightly been called the ‘law of laws’.

Science (which deals exclusively with natural things), quite rightly, accepts the principle of causality as a natural law, and the scientific method itself is dependent on it being true.

We know the Law of Cause and Effect cannot be different, or non-operational, under any circumstances. That is a fact, because it necessarily applies to ALL temporal things.

Unlike other laws, it is not based on any particular, physical properties of nature, it is based only on the temporal character of nature.

Natural things are all temporal and nothing that is temporal can ever escape from that overriding principle. That would also include any temporal, spiritual entities, such as angels or demons.

Everything with a temporal character, wherever and whenever it exists, is subject to the Law of Cause and Effect, . There cannot be any exception to this, and that is why we can rely 100% on the scientific method, which depends on seeking and exploring causes.

Everything that has a beginning is subject to the Law of Cause and Effect.

So, even if the argument that "we don't know what laws existed at the beginning of the universe" is correct, it cannot apply to the principle of causality.

The principle of causality had to exist at the beginning. It is an eternal principle and truth, which can never be different, under any circumstances.

FACT: To reiterate; if something is temporal, then it is subject to the Law of Cause and Effect.

So, it is not possible to propose a natural, origin scenario that can escape the Law of Cause and Effect. All natural entities and occurrences are temporal and, therefore, are all subject to cause and effect.

The only thing not subject to causality is the first cause, because the first cause is not temporal, it has to be non-contingent, that is - infinite and eternally self-existent.

The first cause is the ONLY exception to causality, nothing else can be an exception, everything else (including other supernatural entities, such as angels) is contingent and owes its existence to a cause, which ultimately originates with the uncaused, first cause (God).

Conclusion: A Creator God MUST exist. It is not sensible, and certainly not scientific, to deny that fact.

Singapore National Day Parade

Singapore celebrated its first National Day as an independent nation in 1966, one year after Singapore's separation from Malaysia on 9 August 1965.

The first National Day Parade started in the morning at 9:00 a.m. that day. People came as early as 7:00 a.m. in order to get good vantage points. Singapore's first President, Mr Yusof bin Ishak and Singapore's first Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, were seated with members of the government at the grandstand on the steps of City Hall. When the parade began, 6 military contingents (including the Singapore Infantry Regiment, SPDF and the then Republic of Singapore Police), a mobile column from the SIR, and various schools and civil contingents marched past City Hall and then into the city streets. Three military bands accompanied the parade inspection and later the march past with military music. The Singapore Fire Brigade also took part in this first parade with its firetrucks included in the mobile column. Rounding it all was a massed lion and dragon dance performance from drum and dragon troupes nationwide.

The following year, the contingents increased to 76, including those of the then established Singapore Armed Forces, the RSP and more cultural groups, with the addition of more civil marching groups. The reason is partly due to the introduction of the National Service program in the military and police forces, and later extended to the Fire Brigade, later called the Singapore Fire Services in the 1970s. Street performances by various groups also debuted in that year's parade. The 1968 edition, although held on a rainy morning that surprised even the marching contingents and the dignitaries, saw the first ground performances on the Padang as the weather improved - a prelude to today's show performances. 1969's parade, the one where the Mobile Column made its first drivepast, commemorated the 150th year of the city's founding and had Princess Alexandra of the UK as principal guest.

On the August 9, 1970 NDP edition, the Flypast of the State Flag and the Republic of Singapore Air Force Flypast debuted. A combat simulation performance by Singapore Army personnel was one of the new highlights for that year.

The 1971 NDP was the first to include the iconic mobile parade floats from various organizations. Choirs also debuted on that year's edition.

The 1973 parade was held from the afternoon to early evening for the first time to attract more attendance from the public. The next year, colour broadcasts of the parade on television began.

The 1975 parades, held to celebrate Singapore's 10th year, were for the first time decentralized into 13 parade venues for more public participation. Almost all of them lasted for an hour and all of them even had route marches on the streets to the participating venues.

By the time the NDP was held at the National Stadium (for the first time) in 1976, the NDP Guard of Honour, composed of officers and personnel of the SAF and the Singapore Police Force made its first appearance, followed after the parade proper by the very first evening presentations by various groups, a prelude to future evening NDPs in 1980 and from 1984 onward. 1977's parade was a decentralized event like two years before (and like 1968's was damped by the rain) while 1978 would see the parade back at the Padang grounds. 1979's parade was yet another decentralized one, held in several high schools and sports stadiums nationwide.

The 1980 parade, held at the National Stadium, almost rained at the start, but the performances went on as planned as the weather improved later. This was the first parade in which the feu de joie of the Guard-of-Honour contingents made its inaugural appearance. 1981's NDP was the very first parade appearance of the then SPF Civil Defense Command, presently the Singapore Civil Defense Force, later combined with the SFS in 1989. (The SCDF of today showed itself for the first time in the 1982 NDP held in the Padang.) They were held in two decentralised venues, Jurong and Queenstown Sports Stadiums for further increase public attendance and participation in the celebrations. 1982's parade, back at the Padang site, featured more contingents and for the first time the mobile column drove past after the marchpast had concluded, thus making it a predecessor to the parades at the Padang from 1995 onward (every 5 years).

1983 would be the final year that the NDP was held in multiple venues.

The 1984 NDP, now back at the Padang, celebrated Singapore's Silver Jubilee of self-governance and included a bigger Mobile Column, the first appearance of the popular Silent Precision Drill Squad from the Singapore Armed Forces Military Police Command and the first true evening fireworks display (plus the debut of the very first NDP theme song) while NDP 1985 celebrated the nation's 20th year with more participants in the parade segment and in the show proper. The 1986 edition was the first true evening edition of the parade, and the first to use flashlights for audience use. 1987's parade, held at the Padang, was the first ever evening event held there and featured the first appearance of the massed military bands of the SAF. 1988 saw the card stunt feature being used for the first time during the National Stadium event and the 1989 edition, the first National Stadium daytime event, saw the debut of the nationally famous Red Lions parachute team and the daylight fireworks after 1966. The parade returned to the Padang in 1990 to honor the nation's silver jubilee year, which would turn out to be the last afternoon event ever to be held.

In 1997, for the first time, there was a National Education Show, where Primary 5 students watch NDP rehearsals.

The government set up the electronic voting ticketing system in 2003 in order to tackle the problem of overcrowding. Such ticketing system enables citizens to stand a chance at winning the tickets by registering their e-mail addresses or mobile numbers at the NDP website or phonelines.

Starting 2008, the NDP is also aired all over the Asia-Pacific region through Channel NewsAsia.

2009's NDP was the first ever edition to have an integrated show including the parade segment.

In 2014 Third Warrant Officer Shirley Ng became the first female Red Lion parachutist to jump at the NDP.[1][2]

2015's parade, even as all was planned for the parade to be at the Padang, will be the first ever parade to be held both there and at the Float at Marina Bay, breaking a parade tradition in the process. NDP 2015 is the first National Day Parade without the founding leader Lee Kuan Yew, who never missed a single National Day Parade since 1966, for whom he had died on 23 March 2015, within 8 months after attending the 2014 edition.

NDP editions

The venue of the parade is usually at the historical grounds of the Padang, where the declaration of Singapore's independence was held. Since the first parade in 1966, all the way to 1975, the venue was located in this central area to bring the parade closer to the people. In 1976, the parade was held for the first time at the newly completed National Stadium, where the much larger capacity allowed for more to view the parade live.

Although offering about 60,000 seats in the National Stadium, the demand for tickets remained high. Hence there were several attempts to decentralise the venue to bring the celebration closer to more Singaporeans. From 1975 to 1983, celebrations were alternated between a decentralised event and one centered at the Padang or stadium. From 1984, the parade was held twice at the stadium before being brought back to the Padang. This three-year cycle was repeated up to 1994.

From 1995, it was decided that the Padang would be used as the venue every five years. The Padang, although historically important, posed a greater logistical challenge and also offered fewer seats for spectators. The event and rehearsals also required the closing of surrounding roads. There was a need to construct temporary spectator stands around the field. The site remained, however, the only feasible venue for the mobile column, as the heavy vehicles could not be driven onto the stadium track. The Padang was used as the main performance venue for the 2005 parade, with fringe activities decentralised to Marina South, Jurong East, Yishun and Tampines.

Several alternate locations were mooted, including the utilisation of the Padang, which is physically bigger and less likely to disrupt daily functions in the city.

Parade being held at the Marina Bay Floating Stadium in 2007

On 16 October 2005, it was announced that that 2006 NDP would be held at the old stadium for the last time before moving to The Float at Marina Bay [1]. The 130 metre by 100 metre platform would be used for the next five years until the new stadium is completed. Although offering a seating capacity of only 27,000, which is less than National Stadium, there is a vast area for 150,000 extra spectators along the Marina Bay waterfront.

Since the 2000s (decade), every year's parade would revolve around a theme which would guide the planning of the parade and show.

After ten-year hiatus, the 2016 edition of NDP will return back to the new National Stadium

A small contingent of Irish secondary school students (likely teenagers from Catholic or nationalist institutions) was selected for a short-term exchange, organized through Irish-German cultural channels. Exact numbers are sparse in historical records—estimates suggest 10–20 students—but the trip was framed as an educational opportunity to foster goodwill and learn about German youth culture. It coincided with the Olympic period, allowing participants to witness the Games' spectacles, such as the opening ceremony at the Olympic Stadium, where Hitler declared the event open amid swastika banners and torch relays.

In Berlin, the Irish students met and "embraced" (in the literal and figurative sense—through greetings, group activities, and possibly joint events) members of the Hitler Youth. These encounters included tours of Berlin's landmarks (e.g., the Brandenburg Gate, adorned with Olympic flags), attendance at youth rallies, and discussions on topics like sports, nationalism, and anti-colonialism (a shared Irish-German talking point against Britain).

Ireland did not participate in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, choosing to boycott the Games in protest against a controversial ruling by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The ruling restricted the jurisdiction of the Irish Olympic Council to the territory of the Irish Free State, excluding Northern Ireland, which was part of the United Kingdom at the time.

This decision was a significant point of contention, as the Irish Olympic Council had sought to field a team representing the entire island of Ireland.

The dispute led to a split within Irish sporting bodies, with some associations supporting a unified team while others backed the IOC's decision.

The Irish Olympic Council formally opposed sending a team other than one representing all thirty-two counties, but this motion was ignored by the IOC.

Despite efforts to resolve the issue, including a meeting with IOC President de Baillet-Latour, no agreement was reached, and Ireland ultimately did not send a team to Berlin.

Singapore National Day Parade

The Singapore National Day Parade (NDP) is an annual parade held in the city-state of Singapore. Held annually on 9 August, it is the main public celebration of National Day, and was first held on 9 August 1966 to mark the one-year anniversary of the Proclamation of Singapore.

In recent years, the parade has usually been held at either The Padang, or The Float at Marina Bay. In the past, it was held at the former National Stadium.

Singapore celebrated its first National Day as an independent nation in 1966, one year after Singapore's separation from Malaysia on 9 August 1965.

The inaugural National Day Parade was started in the morning at 9:00 a.m. that day. However, people came as early as 7:00 a.m. in order to get good vantage points. Singapore's first President, Yusof bin Ishak and Singapore's first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, were seated with members of the government at the grandstand on the steps of City Hall. When the parade began, six military contingents (including the Singapore Infantry Regiment, Singapore People's Defense Force, the Volunteer Naval Reserve and PDF-Sea and the then Republic of Singapore Police), a mobile column from the SIR, and various schools and civil contingents marched past City Hall and then into the city streets. Three military bands accompanied the parade inspection and later the march past with military music. The Singapore Fire Brigade also took part in this first parade with its firetrucks included in the mobile column. Rounding it all was a massed lion and dragon dance performance from drum and dragon troupes nationwide.

In 1967, the contingents increased to 76, including those of the then established Singapore Armed Forces, the RSP and more cultural groups, with the addition of more civil marching groups.[ The reason is partly due to the introduction of the National Service program in the military and police forces, and later extended to the Fire Brigade (Renamed to Singapore Fire Services in the 1980s). Street performances by various groups and choirs also debuted in that year's parade. The 1968 parade, although held on a rainy morning that surprised even the marching contingents and the dignitaries, saw the first ground performances on the Padang as the weather improved - a prelude to today's show performances. 1969's parade, the one where the Mobile Column made its first drivepast, commemorated the 150th year of the city's founding and had Princess Alexandra of the UK as principal guest.

The fifth NDP edition in 1970 introduced the Flypast of the State Flag and the Republic of Singapore Air Force Flypast, as well as the combat simulation performance by Singapore Army personnel was one of the new highlights for that year.

The 1971 NDP included iconic mobile parade floats from various organizations, 1973 was the first parade to be held from late-afternoon to early-evening time in order to promote the parade with better attendance and marked the official debut of the 1st Commando Battalion. Parade of 1974 was broadcast for the first time in full colour, after such television broadcasts was introduced for the first time a month prior on 7 July.

In 1975, to commemorate the Decennial anniversary of independence, the Parade was, for the first time, decentralized into 13 parade venues for more public participation. Almost all of the venues lasted for an hour and all of them even had route marches on the streets to the participating venues.

The 1975 parade dance performers were mostly female students from the country's schools, since that year marked the start of the United Nations Decade for Women. 1977's parade was a decentralized event like two years before (and like 1968's was affected by wet weather) while 1978 returned to Padang. 1979's parade saw another decentralized site, this time being held in many high schools and sports stadiums nationwide. The decentralized format would later be used until 1983, which was the final time NDP was held in multiple venues until 2020.

The 15th installment in 1980 was the first parade to introduce the feu de joie of the Guard-of-Honour contingents. The following year, SPF Civil Defense Command, presently the Singapore Civil Defense Force, later combined with the SFS in 1989, made its inaugural appearance, followed by the SCDF in 1982. The 1981 parade was held in both Jurong and Queenstown Sports Stadiums for further increase public attendance and participation in the celebrations. In 1982, the parade returned at Padang, marking the first time the mobile column drove past after the marchpast had concluded, thus making it a predecessor to the parades at the Padang from 1995 onward, once every five years.

The 1984 installment featured many firsts in commemoration with the Singapore's Silver Jubilee of self-governance, which for the first time, introduced a theme song "Stand Up for Singapore", and included a bigger Mobile Column, the first appearance of the popular Silent Precision Drill Squad from the Singapore Armed Forces Military Police Command and the first evening fireworks display.

The 1986 edition was the first parade held in the late evening, and the first to use flashlights for audience use. Other introductions were featured over the years such as the first appearance of the massed military bands of the SAF (1987), the card stunt (1988), and the Red Lions parachute team and the daylight fireworks (1989). In 1989, the parade was held in the afternoon but the 1991 edition returned to the evening format used since 1986.

In 1993, interactive participation by the public debuted in that year's edition to increase public participation and awareness of the parade as an important part of Singaporean life and as a symbol of national unity and identity. In 1997, a National Education Show was also introduced where Primary Five students from a selected number of schools attended in one of the rehearsals.

In 2003, due to overcrowding of tickets, the electronic voting ticketing system was introduced as a countermeasure, and a ballot was conducted where citizens stand a chance at winning the tickets by registering their e-mail addresses or mobile numbers such as the NDP websites or phone lines.

On 16 October 2005, it was announced that due to the planned closure and replacement of the National Stadium as part of the Singapore Sports Hub project, that the 2007 NDP would move to The Float at Marina Bay—a temporary 27,000-seat grandstand and 130 m × 100 m (330 ft) (430 ft × 330 ft) floating platform in Marina Bay. Despite offering a seating capacity almost less than half the capacity of the National Stadium, there was a vast area for approximately 150,000 additional spectators along the Marina Bay waterfront.

The 2006 installment marked the final time the National Stadium in Kallang was held before the stadium went for retrofitting works and thus relocating the parade to the new venue to The Float @ Marina Bay and held its inaugural parade the following year. Starting in 2008, the NDP is also aired all over the Asia-Pacific region through CNA, and since 2012, it was simulcast to other internet web-streaming websites such as Toggle (now meWATCH), xinmsn (defunct since 2015), and YouTube (along with the parade's official channel, NDPeeps). 2009 featured, for the first time, an integrated show including the parade segment, known as the Pre-parade show (usually not broadcast on television). 2009 was currently the last time to feature multiple theme songs (English and Chinese versions, or originals)

The 2013 installment featured a spin-off reality competition aired on Channel 5, titled Sing a Nation, which featured ten different groups who performed various songs for a chance at a lead performance for the 2013's parade. The 2013's theme song, "One Singapore", was also sung by the cast of Sing a Nation, and the song featured its largest ensemble, with 68 members.

The 2014 installment also featured its first female Red Lion parachutist to jump at the NDP, Third Warrant Officer Shirley Ng, after their initial performance in 2013 was cancelled due to weather conditions. The 2014 parade was notable as it was the last parade with the attendance for the first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, who was the only member to have attended in every installment of NDP since 1966, as he died on 23 March the following year.

2015's parade was the first parade to be held at both the Padang and at The Float @ Marina Bay, breaking a parade tradition in the process as it became the first parade since 1983 to be held in multiple venues.

In 2016, the NDP was held for the first time at the new National Stadium, in an event that required modifications to the event's format due to the limitations of the venue. In 2017, it was announced that The Float would remain the "preferred" venue for the event, and that it would be redeveloped as a permanent venue known as NS Square.

Due to criticisms relating to budget and logistics,[22] the following parade in 2017 (and later in 2018) returned to The Float @ Marina Bay to celebrate the golden jubilee for National Service. 2017 also saw the first time YouTube live-streamed the parade in a 360-degree format and on Facebook Live.

In October 2017, it was announced that The Float would be redeveloped as a permanent venue known as NS Square (extended to March 2023 due to the pandemic), and serve as the primary venue for the NDP when not held at the Padang every five years. The decision raised questions over whether the costs of renting the National Stadium would diminish the legacy that the former National Stadium had as a site for community events. Contrarily, it was argued that not hosting the NDP at the new National Stadium would free up its schedule for major international sporting events, especially during the summer months.

The 2019 installment, which was held at the Padang again and breaking a trend of holding every five years to commemorate the bicentennial anniversary of modern foundation of Singapore in 1819, also marked the first time the parade was screened in 4K ultra-high definition on Toggle.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore, the 2020 parade was not held in its traditional form; the event was given the theme "Together, A Stronger Singapore", and a goal was set to bring the NDP "across the island into every Singaporean's home". The public events were replaced by broadcast-only festivities, including a morning segment consisting of the Prime Minister's National Day Message and a downsized parade at the Padang. Appearances by the Mobile Column, Red Lions, and flyovers by F-15SG fighters were scheduled across Singapore, while the traditional Funpacks given at the parade were shipped to each resident. Online programming, home activity ideas, and social media campaigns were also organized. A cultural segment took place at the Star Performing Arts Centre in the evening, reduced to only around 100 performers with social distancing enforced.

It was announced that the 2021 parade would return to a "centralised" event at The Float in a downsized form, with tickets distributed to nominated essential workers who are fully-vaccinated for COVID-19 and undergo testing.[29] On 22 July 2021, the main public parade would be postponed to 21 August instead, so that it can be held after the conclusion of the present Phase 2 "Heightened Alert" restrictions (then scheduled for 18 August). A closed "ceremonial" parade was still held on 9 August at The Float, which was stated to be similar in format to the previous year's parade. The venue was capped at 30% capacity.

In 2022, plans were made to have the parade held at The Float with full capacity subject to COVID rules.

Middletown, RI / May 5, 2013

It has been three days since we were run off the road into the Wither Woods. I can see why our Rego was apprehensive on getting involved on the continent. What should have been a simple trip to the Avalonian capital has turned into a slaughter in the dark inside these woods. Death lurks in these trees. My contingent of solders has all but vanished and I know it is not cowardice or desertion.

I fear if I fall asleep, I may never wake, but I have not slept since we were attacked on that first night; I can fight it back no longer. We’ve situated camp on this crag over a stream; we will be safe on two sides, at least. Hirbod has the first watch. May his eyes, and ears, not fail us tonight.

-Sicuro

After weeks of no word from Sicuro or the contingent of men he led to Avalonia, rumor made its way to the Rego of Varlyrio. This whisper was enough to convince his minster of War and himself that isolation from the continent was prudent. Varlyrio would not send troops to the Battle of Historica.

This is my entry into the Guilds of Historica Book III Challenge V: Category A (which takes place in Book II). This lost diary entry explains what happened to the contingent of troops sent by the Rego of Varlyrio. Their disappearance solidifies his view that Varlyrio should stay out of the distant war.

Extinction Rebellion intend to sprawl across London streets for two whole weeks. Is this wise? Many people support them in principle but....... Have they considered how fragile business still is in London?

Are they cutting off any further growth in retailing here? Do they ever consider these delicate issues?

The Bristol Street Motors Football League Trophy Final took place at Wembley today (07/04/2024) with around 40 coaches turning up for Peterborough United vs Wycombe Wanderers. By far the largest contingent was the 19 from Peterborough FC featuring a convoy of Greys of Ely, Fowlers, Blands, Dons and Dews. From Wycombe the bulk was provided by Motts. With so few coaches it was a pleasant surprise to find every coach in a photographable position in the Green coach park - that made the day!

The firm with the most coaches at Drayton Manor today was welsh firm GHA who had seven coaches on site. The first BA06GHA a Volvo B7R / Plaxton Profile C70F. Photo taken 17/07/14

Sorrento. Pop 1,600.In 1803 Captain Collins established the convict settlement near present day Sorrento on Nepean Bay. Evan Nepean was the naval officer administrator in England who organised the sending of the First Fleet to Botany Bay in 1787. He was created a baronet in 1804 and made a Lord of the Admiralty the same year. He was remembered by the naming of Nepean Bay, the Nepean River in NSW and Nepean Bay on Kangaroo Island. Evans’ brother Nicholas Nepean was also in the marines but resigned from them in 1789 and joined the New South Wales Corps. In 1790 he arrived in the colony on the Neptune with the first contingent of NSW Corp officers. He did not fare well in the colony because of his temper and disagreement with John MacArthur. He left in 1793 and returned to England via a short stay at the Norfolk Island convict settlement. He remained in the navy until he retired in 1814. Over the years he was promoted to major and then lieutenant general. The convict settlement lasted only a few months from 9 October 1803 to 30 January 1804 and nothing of it remains but a memorial cairn erected at nearby Sullivan Bay. The last equipment and couple of residents left on 21 May 1804 except for escapee William Buckley who lived among the Aborigines for the next 32 years.

The district had good limestone deposits and by 1840 several lime burning kilns were established here. By 1845 there were 17 recorded lime kilns operating. The waters of the bay had plentiful fish and some fishermen camped here from around 1840 with three Scottish Watson brothers becoming major fishermen from 1850 onwards. Portsea was the first named place here in 1843 by James Ford who took up land then. Ten years later he asked to be allowed to purchase 640 acres here next to the quarantine station as he had lime kilns, houses and fencing on the land. The limit of settlement was the quarantine station which emerged in 1852 when the ship the Ticonderoga from Liverpool landed with 400 passengers ill with fever out of the almost 800 that set out on the voyage. The sick were landed at the Heads and given supplies. 70 died and were buried there and then later re-interred in Sorrento cemetery in 1952. Construction of the quarantine station began in 1854 and it was used for this purpose during the 1919 Spanish influenza pandemic. It closed in 1950 when the Australian Army established their officer cadet training program there. In 2004 it became a Victorian National Park.

The town began to emerge in the 1860s. Around that time Sir Charles Duffy took up land for a summer house. By 1871 there were 22 houses in the Portsea-Sorrento area. The Sorrento pier was erected in 1870 so that ships could bring holiday makers to Sorrento and the Post Office opened in January 1871. In 1874 an Anglican Church was built between Sorrento and Portsea on land donated by the headmaster of Geelong Grammar School. George Coppin began developing the district at his own expense before he founded a company with other investors. In 1875 Coppin’s company built baths for returning swimmers. Then Coppin built the Mornington Hotel (now the Intercontinental) opened in 1878 and established the Sorrento-Queenscliff Navigation Company. This was to bring day trippers from Melbourne to Sorrento via Geelong and Queenscliff. At this time more sandstone houses were built in Sorrento and George Coppin founded the Ocean Park Trust to develop the beaches and pathways. Coppin built his own large house called The Anchorage on the corner of Coppin Road and Point Nepean roads. It was built in local limestone in 1873. The Sorrento Mechanics Institute was built in 1884 and it opened as the town museum in 1967. Next to it is Watts Cottage. The family were lime burners one of the early Peninsula industries. The cottage was built in wattle and daub in 1869. The Athenaeum or library was built in 1894. The new Sorrento Hotel was built in the 1890s too and in 1890 the Sorrento Tramway Company started to move visitors around. The tramway operated until 1920.

George Coppin the main developer of Sorrento was a very interesting character. He was actually a comic actor and investor. He left England and arrived in Sydney in 1843. He produced shows in Melbourne, Adelaide (the old Queens Theatre off Hindley Street) in the 1840s. In 1850 he bought the Queens Theatre in Adelaide and reopened it as the Royal Victoria Theatre which he ran until 1853 along with a hotel in Port Adelaide. He returned to Melbourne where he also ran a theatre. He entered state politics in Victoria in 1858. He introduced a real property act for Victoria based on the SA Robert Torrens act. He remained in the Victorian parliament off and on until 1895. His investments in Sorrento were not financially rewarding and he lost a considerable sum on the Sorrento Tramway Company.

#contaminacion #contingencia #Puebla #calidaddelaire #ig_mexico_

A Burundian soldier serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) holds a rocket-propelled grenade launcher 15 May 2012, manning a position along a defensive line in the area surrounding Baidoa airstrip in central Somalia. An advance joint-contingent of 120 Ugandan and Burundian AMISOM troops are on the ground in Baidoa, 240km west of Mogadishu and are the first forces the AU mission has deployed outside the Somali capital since its initial deployment in 2007. Ethiopian forces took control of Baidoa from the Al-Qaeda-affiliated extremist group Al Shabaab in February of this year, one of string of strategic losses Shabaab has suffered with the group losing ground on three separate fronts to allied Kenyan and Somali National Army (SNA) forces in the south of the country; being driven from the Somali capital by SNA and AMISOM forces and conceding territory to the Ethiopians and pro-government militia in the west. AMISOM will soon deploy several thousand troops to Baidoa and the surrounding area, replacing the Ethiopian forces currently on the ground and expanding its operations throughout the country.

Officers and staff of Greater Manchester Police marched in the Manchester Pride Parade on Saturday, 27 August, 2016. They were joined by colleagues from across the country, all marching under the Police with Pride banner.

The GMP band entertained the crowd and a float decorated with hate crime banners also took part.

The Police with Pride parade contingent included the Force’s rainbow police car.

During the parade officers recreated the famous Kissing Coppers mural by the street artist Banksy. To add a little glamour, the officers recreating the artwork wore glitter helmets created by Brett Dearden of Creative Headspace.

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd and his deputy Jim Battle also joined the police contingent.

The Carnaby Street contingent of Swinging London stormed into international awareness with the 15 April 1966 publication of Time magazine's cover and article that reported on this unique street:

Perhaps nothing illustrates new swinging London better than the narrow, three-block-long Carnaby Street, which is crammed with fashion shops and boutiques where the young people of London buy clothes and accessories with the latest trends
