Twenty-seven Soldiers from the 27th Brigade Combat Team, CENTCOM Materiel Recovery Element, currently working with the 401st AFSB received combat patches in a ceremony at the AFSBn-Bagram, 401st AFSB headquarters May 12. Soldiers who participate in combat operations are entitled to wear the combat patch of the unit they serve with or with another unit they previously served with in combat operations.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq – Service members and civilians enjoy a rock show performed by Hoobastank at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Iraq, June 25, 2011. Lead singer Doug Robb encouraged participation from the crowd during the hour-long show, inviting them closer to the stage, and to sing lines to some of the band’s hit songs such as “Running Away,” and “Crawling in the Dark." The band stopped at several bases in Iraq and Kuwait, providing a time for service members to relax from their daily duties.

Tamietti flew helicopters in Vietnam and returned to service in 2003 after retiring from the airline industry, re-enlisting to help train younger pilots. Tamietti conducted his final flight over Iraq, July 31, and said he is now looking forward to retiring and returning to his hometown of San Clemente, Calif.

KIGALI, Rwanda - Planners from the Rwandan government, including the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs (MIDIMAR), the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) and others, met with planners from the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine (CDHAM) and U.S. Africa Command in Kigali, November 10, 2011, to conduct a final review of a draft military contingency plan for pandemic disaster. This meeting is the culmination of a 2.5 year effort aimed at furthering the capacity of the RDF to support the response of the civil government to a pandemic or similar disaster. Army Reserve Soldiers who answered the call to serve with 401st Army Field Support Brigade and subordinate battalions arrived at Bagram Airfield September 18. The Soldiers comprise Detachment 12 and will be deployed for one year. The Soldiers arriving at Bagram will fill positions at the brigade and AFSBn-Bagram and Logistics Task Forces and Logistics Support Elements that fall under the battalion. They were greeted by a number of 401st AFSB personnel who were very glad to see the new DET arrive – it means they are one step closer to going home. Soldiers who will be assigned to AFSBn-Kandahar, 401st AFSB arrived a few days ago and are already learning their new jobs.
Welcome to the new arrivals and thank you to those who have served for the last year.

The Kosovo Forces 14 U.S. Contingency made up of infantry soldiers from C. Company 1-200th Infantry, based in Las Cruces, N.M., participated in crowd and riot control training conducted by the KFOR Tactical Reserve Manoeuvre Battalion. The multinational-led training focused on techniques and tactics that have been implemented and are proven to work effectively.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq – Staff Sergeant Jayme Turner, a former military transition team medical advisor to the 6th Iraqi Army Division, inspects a hospital at Al Muthana Airfield in Baghdad, Iraq, with his Iraqi counterparts during a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008. Currently serving with Division Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Division in support of Operation New Dawn, Turner earned the Capt. John R. Teal Award as an operations noncommissioned officer responsible for tracking and providing up-to-date information on medical assets in northern Iraq.
