Never mind me... :)

Just posting for a contest. Sorry to post the same picture twice.

Alumni and faculty members from the Dartmouth studio art department gathered on April 27 to select the winners of an art contest sponsored organized by the Dartmouth Class of 1961. Students submitted a range of interpretive representations of the Robert Frost statue in the categories of photography, drawing, painting, and sculpture.

c. Swirly - I chose this card because I liked the movement of the circle shapes. It reminded me of a fan, continuously having a circular motion even though it was just a card! I also thought this brown/blue color scheme was nice and I particularly enjoyed the soft appearance of orange in the names.

d. I wanted to keep the design in a symmetrical layout so that your eye could easily glance across the photos in a circular motion that mimicked the card.

The answers are in the comment section below. The winner of the "Little Dead Riding Hood Clawdeen", with a total of 17 correct answers is...KOMID!!! Congratulations, I will be PMing you to get your mailing address!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

Since this contest was a little tricky, I'm going to throw together a couple little consolation prizes for Komid and the 2nd place winners to pick from. Komid will get 1st choice, then I will contact each of the 2nd place winners in order of answer submission. The three 2nd place winners (who each got 15 questions right) in order are: BratzLuv!, Frostquinn and Kacyee015!!! Give me until a bit later tonight to throw together some consolation prizes (I'm going out to dinner in a few minutes, lol!)

A big huge thanks to everyone who played!!!

Sorry about the Barney background, I don’t know what…

This is an entry to the D-day contest.

On 6th of June of 1944, 67 years ago (not exactly, but yes...) Over 200 Rangers landed off British boats on “Pointe du Hoc” in France.

“The Rangers looked up and saw the enemy soldiers -- the edge of the cliffs shooting down at them with machineguns and throwing grenades. And the American Rangers began to climb. They shot rope ladders over the face of these cliffs and began to pull themselves up. When one Ranger fell, another would take his place. When one rope was cut, a Ranger would grab another and begin his climb again. They climbed, shot back, and held their footing. Soon, one by one, the Rangers pulled themselves over the top, and in seizing the firm land at the top of these cliffs, they began to seize back the continent of Europe. Two hundred and twenty-five came here. After 2 days of fighting, only 90 could still bear arms.”

-Ronald Reagan.

I tried to portrait parts of his speech, parts of the movie “The Longest Day”-1962 , from this scene.

On Pointe du Hoc (sometimes erroneously known as Pointe du Hoe following a typographical error by an American military cartographer) the Germans had built, as part of the Atlantic Wall, six casemates to house a battery of captured French 155mm guns. With Pointe Du Hoc situated between Utah Beach to the west and Omaha Beach to the east, these guns threatened Allied landings on both beaches, risking heavy casualties in the landing forces. Although there were several bombardments from the air and by naval guns, intelligence reports assumed that the fortifications were too strong, and would also require attack by ground forces. The U.S. 2nd Ranger Battalion was therefore given the task of destroying the strongpoint early on D-Day.

Prior to the attack, the guns were moved approximately 1 mile away; however, the concrete fortifications were intact, and would still present a major threat to the landings if they were occupied by artillery forward observers. The Ranger Battalion commanders and executive officers knew the guns had moved, but the rest of the Rangers were not informed prior to the attack.

Parts from Wikipedia and President Ronald Reagan’s speech at “Pointe du Hoc” in 1984.

PS: Do not start a flamewar on Ronald Reagan.

I chose Poppy because, among other things, I think this combination of turquoise and orange is such a versitile and interesting mix. The subtlety can be played up or down...it can be bright and vibrant or muted and calming. Until I did this contest I didn't have the guts to transform one of the rooms in my house with these clors that I love....but now I've bought the paint and can't wait to get started! I'm from Charleston, SC. USA

After problems with some of the judges... the results are here!

We at The Brothers Brick love predatory fish and extreme weather. So we're huge fans of SyFy's high-brow political thriller and romantic comedy Sharknado. But we also love ridiculous New York movie stereotypes, such as rude cabbies and the pointless destruction of famous landmarks. Not surprisingly then, we're positively shark-static about the new follow-up movie Sharknado 2: The Second One which airs July 30th on the SyFy channel. We'll be glued to our TV's, popcorn in one hand, bucket of chum in the other, for 2 hours of deeply thought-provoking chainsaw-tastic aquatic mayhem.

SyFy is planning Sharknado Week in celebration of its new movie. But we felt that LEGO fans deserved to be a part of that experience too. Our solution: Bricknado!
