The incredible hidden city of Machu Picchu. Remember, its not like they hauled all the rocks to the top. The city itself was a quarry, they mined the stones from the mountaintop.

A rather contented Siberian Tiger, happily posing for all onlookers. Taken with a Canon EOS 350D & 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens.

My first roll of 35mm loaded inside the TLR. Credit to Dani Irwan for the scanning.

Hardly know what to say.

The annual meeting of the ASA has been great; mostly because I've met a huge number of people from my department in a wonderful setting. Last night we had the CUNY party, and folks were terrific. It's already true that I've had better, longer conversations about my academic and intellectual interests with my peers here than I ever did at Yale over the course of *years*. I sure did pick the right school.

Am headed out to California in a couple of days (eek!) after the close is over. And the close has gone well, only a couple of hideously late nights last week. My body was in rough shape today, but I'm going to bed early, and the next couple of days will be fairly light, so we'll see if it calms down.

I'm feeling generally smart and competent and pretty and on top of my game; hope I'm not jinxing anything by saying that out loud, but it seems important to mention that if I'm going to mention on other days that I'm feeling insecure and mopey and rotten. So: yay!

The real mess and destruction was caused by Mrs Mimzy, Bonny just loved playing and sleeping in it so much I didn't have the heart to clear it up, its the stuffing from an old cushion that we've put by the side of the kitchen sofa to stop the bunnies from getting behind it, so its no disaster and i just re stuffed the cushion and turned it around...so that Mrs Mimzy can unstuff it yet again...lol

Das war ein Almwirt der auf seiner ganzen Almhütte keine Elektrizität hat, bis auf ein batteriebetriebenes Radio.

Earlier this month, we went to Stonewall Farm in Keene, NH, for their annual "Dance of the Ladies". Having been in the barn all winter, this is the first time the cows have been in the pasture all year, and they generally respond with manic bounding and "dancing", as well as the occasional head-butting and just hanging out.

In the old days, when we had fewer cats, Rocket used to always curl up in Mitch's lap like this, but he hadn't done it in years.

Today, the rain was enough to drive him inside, and the others left him alone, and finally his nest is back again!

These horses are grazing at the Bar W Guest Ranch in the Stillwater Valley, five or six miles northwest of Whitefish.

Rachel/contented be sent me so many lovely things as well as my beautiful quilt - there's fabric from the quilt in that bundle, one of her felt brooches custom made for me, a little purse, thread and the sweetest extra fabrics. I've been so lucky! Thanks Rachel, you're fab! x

I wonder if they'd consider doing a swap for one day a week.

So happy - sitting out in the sun on a bench. Not a care in the world. I wish I were a smiling cow!!

Even this rabbit seemed to have survived the winter in good shape, and discretely displayed a starburst pattern. Or am I seeing things?

The goat wasn’t sure she liked it; she kept shaking her horns at the kitten

Barbed wire fences scream out 'This land is mine', as contented eyes fall upon a rural scene of lush pastures set against a fast flowing river. I am knocking on Utopia's door and she seems happy to welcome me in as I stroll towards the shady trees to sneak a closer look at the group of horses grazing on the plentiful grass.

Many hands high and carefully groomed, the leader of the pack saunters over with a fearless stance that his friends can only dream of possessing. Warm flesh and fuzzy, soft mane mingle as, stroking his noble snout, I send those big beautiful brown eyes slowly to a land of dreams and slumber. Gently he nods his head as it lowers towards the ground, and these ties that bind us ignore the boundaries and rules of both man and fence as we two are one for an all too brief moment in time.

The cotton wool clouds overhead, dance across the ocean blue sky as the warm sun rays beat down upon man and beast, the silence broken only by the sounds of Mother nature's calls. As the other horses slowly move along to fresh grass, this gentle leader follows me along the pathway a little, demanding more attention before finally walking slowly to his friends, in the respite of the shady tree. I depart the scene and pass by the flowing river as the water caresses the rocks and stony bed like sinuous fingertips to willing flesh, and my mind all a flutter, I climb back into the car with a smile upon my face.

Though that fence screams out loud, 'This is my land, get out, keep off', the horse, it seems was far more amenable than the beast who laid a claim to his ownership.

I've dived into the Stitch Along that Rachel is hosting on her blog - Contented. This is going to be a Birthday present for my Mum (whose birthday is the same day as mine - yesterday - oops!).

I think I might find this hard to give away and might need to make one for me too!

So contented...

This second day of our weekend trip to the North Carolina coast was amazing! We found quite a few really nice wildflowers as well as some of the healthiest cows I've seen in quite a while. When I saw them against that really green grass, I had to make a U-turn to go back and record that experience.

Our inherited, and now aged, cat Lovey is declining. she is suffering from partial blindness and impaired musculature due to a suspected brain tumor. But she still enjoys a toasty hearth, or a warm lap.

i happened to hear these kids just outside the house... i can't seem to ignore them, not because of their noise but because of their laughter. i asked them what they were doing and they said, "collecting plastic"... after their honest response, they asked for money to buy bread. in my head i knew giving them money would do no good. so i went back the house and took some bananas then gave the brothers each.
