I believe this to be the Seaforth Container Terminal in Liverpool, of which this is one of a pair of container cranes, Walter Woolfenden Crane Services erected.

A quick build for CopMike's Container Raffle on Eurobricks. Also served as a good opportunity to try out a corrugated texture design I've been considering for some time.

It's not really a Prefab, it's more built recycling materials like shipping containers and wooden pallets. The aim of Infiniski is to propose cheap and quickly built houses. On their website, they propose many different shapes and configurations. The one presented here was built in Chile for 79,000 euros. It's made with two 40' shipping containers and two 20'.

Thanks to neighbors and friends who helped get everything out of the house very quickly, most of my walnut Victorian and country furniture came through with minimal water damage, none in most cases. Nearly everything is currently stored in two 40 foot ocean shipping containers, until the house is ready.

On the 29th April 2025 the container ship 'Kestrel' (2013, 22,071DWT) passes Coalhouse Fort on the River Thames outbound from Tilbury to Hamburg.

These are a bulk carrier and a container ship, each folded from a US currency note. This must be the first time I had the chance of designing and building complete ships. In my undergrad days studying to become a naval architect, I had a small role to play in building a jack-up rig and the QE2 while working in a shipyard in Upper Clyde. Yes, it's true when I tell friends that I've been on the QE2 several time. That was my only experience in building ships, except the present one.

Hamburg Containerlager

The view outside of my office at the construction site.. a big container! While I was sitting outside looking at the sky it hit me and this composition came in to my mind.

"In 1955, former trucking company owner Malcom McLean worked with engineer Keith Tantlinger to develop the modern intermodal container. The challenge was to design a shipping container that could efficiently be loaded onto ships and would hold securely on long sea voyages. The result was a 8 feet (2.44 m) tall by 8 ft (2.44 m) wide box in 10 ft (3.05 m)-long units constructed from 2.5 mm (0.098 in) thick corrugated steel. The design incorporated a twistlock mechanism atop each of the four corners, allowing the container to be easily secured and lifted using cranes. After helping McLean create the successful design, Tantlinger convinced him to give the patented designs to industry; this began international standardization of shipping containers."

Container Ship... Departing from the Tees

Shipping containers in a yard on my way home from work. Do you think this is oversaturated?! : )

Imagine having one of them fall on your head?

Industry experts estimate that anywhere from 2,000 to 10,000 containers fall off ships each year, less than 1% of the number of containers sent by sea annually but representing a huge cost to those who lose cargo to the ocean. The loss of even one shipping container, which can be 20 feet to 40 feet long and 8 feet high and may hold millions of small parts, could shut down a manufacturing line.
