African primates range in size from the smallest prosimian in the world, to medium-sized monkeys, to the largest monkeys and apes in the world.

African monkeys include baboons, colobus monkeys, drills, geladas, guenons, mandrills, one macaque species, mangabeys, and patas monkeys.

The tails of Old World monkeys are never prehensile. Their thumbs are opposable. Their nostrils are close together and point downward. They have 32 teeth. Many species have cheek pouches to store food for later consumption, and many have thick pads on their buttocks for comfort when sitting on hard surfaces.

Old World monkeys are more closely related to apes, and therefore humans, than they are to the New World monkeys. #YBSAnimals21

Blind explores our denial of the studied, validated, stated, detailed crisis of climate change for which we are collectively responsible : natural, economic, social and demographic disasters during the coming years. And yet we do almost nothing, but continue our frenzy of senseless consumption and expend our energy in war.

Blind is the first part of a three-part installation, “The fifth season”, that questions our tendency to follow a path of self-destruction. It is related to the imminent threat of dramatic consequences for all living species as a result of climate change.

Many of the fruit and berry-bearing trees and bushes at the National Arboretum have already been picked clean by the birds and squirrels, but Holly trees are still pretty much in tact. I watched a half-dozen American Robins selecting an occasional berry; I wonder if they are too bitter or toxic for mass consumption?

Climate change research in the tropical Andes on the effects of climate change on glacier melting and on the hydrology of the La Paz Valley extensively describes the possible impact of climate change on water resources in the metropolitan area of La Paz and El Alto, and thus on water provision for urban domestic uses. Eighty per cent of the glaciers in the Bolivian tropical Andes are melting, much has already disappeared and the Tuni-Condoriri system, important for water provision in the cities of La Paz and El Alto will disappear towards 2025 and 2045. These studies also provide information related to the water balance (precipitation, consumption, water losses) in the water systems of La Paz and El Alto.

“The architecture puts great emphasis on internal acoustic control. All of the building’s internal walls are lined with imported acoustic panels, ensuring a peaceful and harmonious environment so that visitors can really enjoy and appreciate the exhibits. The panelled façade also helps divert any external noise.

Curved, gold aluminium panels, for instance, were used for the façade, echoing the design of the museum in Beijing and creating the effect of glazed tiles.

The architects sourced as many materials from China and other parts of Asia as possible, in a bid to lower long-term operational costs and reduce the project’s overall carbon footprint and energy consumption.

In our thoughtless actions, we have tossed aside items like shoes and clothes, oblivious to the consequences they may have on our environment. However, recognizing the importance of safeguarding our planet for future generations, it is time for us to unite and make a change. Let us turn our words into action by embracing recycling, and let us cultivate a greener future by growing our own vegetable gardens using recycled materials. Together, we can create a sustainable world where care for the environment extends beyond today and leaves a lasting legacy for the generations to come.

Laccadives has not really achieved commercial levels in its tourism. One has to be thankful for the policies of the Indian government which prevents consumption of alcohol and presence of too many tourists, lack of fresh water and such. Not necessarily by design but it just happens to work like that.

In the developing world, wherever there are deep waters, obliging children act as divers and showmen to show off their prowess and eagerness and make some money. Laccadives was no different as the kids were having a blast hitting the cool emerald green waters at Agatti from a fishing vessel moored near the jetty.

Unlike other destinations, there was no obligatory solicitation by the participants, just pure fun.

Canola refers to both an edible oil (also known as canola oil) produced from the seed of any of several varieties of the rape plant, and to those plants, namely a cultivar of either rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) or field mustard/turnip rape (Brassica rapa subsp. oleifera, syn. B. campestris L.). Consumption of the oil is common and, unlike rapeseed, does not cause harm in humans[1][2] and livestock.[3] It is also used as a source of biodiesel.

Canola was bred naturally from rapeseed at the University of Manitoba, Canada, by Keith Downey and Baldur R. Stefansson in the early 1970s, and had a different nutritional profile, in addition to much less erucic acid. In the international community, canola is generally referred to as rapeseed 00 or double zero rapeseed to denote both low glucosinolates and low erucic acid [...]. Wikipedia

From Ships Monthly:

Swedish shipping company Wallenius Lines recently took delivery of the first vessel in a new series of pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) built by CIMC Raffles of China. Future Way was designed jointly by Wallenius Lines subsidiary Wallenius Marine and Danish naval architecture firm Knud E. Hansen in compliance with DNV class rules.

“This belongs to the Sleipner concept, which is a concept with high-capacity workhorse vessels that are also energy-efficient,” Dan Reineck, Project Manager with Wallenius Marine’s Ship Design, Newbuilding and Innovation division, told Baird Maritime.

“We wanted a ship with its fuel consumption as low as possible and as little ballast as possible. In this particular case, the ship was designed to satisfy the requirements of our customer, the Volkswagen Group, which wanted a vehicle carrier with a capacity of 6,500 cars.”

The PCTC has a length of 199.95m (656ft), a beam of 37m (120ft), a draught of 9.5m (31ft), a depth of 13.4m (44ft), and an aerodynamically optimised bow that can reduce wind resistance.

Reineck said that cargo hold fans have also been installed to generate as little wind resistance as possible. The upper hull and the superstructure were also designed to have as few protruding parts as possible, which can help minimise fuel consumption.

A number of features have also been incorporated to reduce the vessel’s environmental footprint and thus eliminate the need for it to carry any ballast water when fully loaded. The structure has been optimised to make the total weight even lower, thus ensuring lower fuel consumption.

“There is also a centre ramp in the cargo hold,” added Reineck. “This feature helps save weight while making loading more efficient.”

The propulsion setup includes a 6S60ME-C10 dual-fuel engine from MAN, a fixed-pitch propeller, and a twisted leading edge rudder with a rudder bulb and fairing cone to ensure greater efficiency.

Reineck said the PCTC itself can accommodate a battery installation in the future to further reduce emissions during navigation, though a shore connection is already fitted to enable the vessel to draw electrical power from the local grid while berthed.

Future Way will be operated under charter with the Volkswagen Group along with sister ship Way Forward, which is scheduled to be delivered before the end of this year. Wallenius Marine will be responsible for ship management of the vessels, which will transport cars on behalf of Volkswagen across the Atlantic from Europe to the US East Coast and back again.

The monitor displays a history of fuel consumption for the last half hour, averaged over five-minute intervals. The "Current" MPG reading at the right is zero when the car is not moving, is off the top of the scale when the car is moving but the gasoline engine is off, and otherwise shows the fuel economy you're achieving moment by moment. Then it's averaged over five minutes, and displayed on the chart at the left; the little car symbols show how much energy you've put back into the battery pack using regenerative braking.

When attempting to open another bottle of scotch, if one cuts his or her finger/s with the foil seal, one has likely crossed the danger level of consumption. Would be wise to put it away and come back another day to enjoy it.

SN/NC: Pelecanus Occidentalis, Pelecanidae Family

Pelecanus is a genus of seabirds commonly called pelicans, and belonging to the Pelecanidae family.

Pelicans are famous for their huge beaks, but they have another distinctive feature: unlike other waterfowl, they have all four webbed toes, just like cormorants and gannets. They eat fish, and most live in the sea. The pelican is the only animal that swallows salt water and turns it into fresh water in its throat for consumption.

Eles comem peixe e a maioria vive no mar.

Composition could have been better but I love the colors and light from this film. The circa 1800's green bottle says "for consumption" on it which means it was a medicine for Tuberculosis...wonder what that was made of.

As people might know I've been finding it really hard to create new work recently. Though I'd been trying and had concepts ready to create, nothing came out right and it didn't feel good enough. I came really close to stopping this project but I'm glad I didn't. Its all a huge learning process.
