Hallucinogenic honey
Rhododendron honey can be dangerous, although it has a number of healing properties.
But if you eat too much of it, it can lead to death. A similar effect can be caused by honey based on chestnut and linden pollen.
A high amount of grayanotoxin can lower blood pressure, cause hallucinations.
Grayanotoxin is a type of neurotoxin found in some plants.
Grayanotoxins are produced by Rhododendron species and other plants in the family Ericaceae. Honey made from the nectar and so containing pollen of these plants also contains grayanotoxins and is commonly referred to as mad honey. Consumption of the plant or any of its secondary products, including mad honey, can cause a rare poisonous reaction called grayanotoxin poisoning, mad honey disease, honey intoxication, or rhododendron poisoning. It is most frequently produced and consumed in regions of Nepal and Turkey as a recreational drug and traditional medicine.
Still about eight weeks to harvest. Hazelnuts are perennial deciduous shrubs, about 2.5-3 m (8 -10 ft) in height, the nuts are grown for human consumption.

Former radio station Radio Kootwijk is a monumental building with a special history, in which connection is central. The building is architecturally unique, in its special Art Deco style.
Architect Julius Luthmann was commissioned in 1920 to build a hall for the large dynamo of long-wave radio transmission equipment. The desolate sand drift near Apeldoorn lent itself well to an interference-free transmitter. Luthmann was not allowed to use wood and iron, so it was made entirely of concrete. In the rich Netherlands of those days, no more or less was looked at. The design has been worked out to perfection and finished in Art Deco down to the last detail.
History:
At the start of the twentieth century, the Netherlands was a trading nation with extensive overseas territories. Its interests were served by a quick connection to the colonies, especially the Dutch East Indies. Direct communication took place by way of electric telegrams, which required cable connections. Prior to this, the Netherlands was dependent on England and Germany. When the First World War broke out the disadvantages of this dependence increased. In 1918, the government decided to realise their own international communication network, independent of the neighbouring countries. After much political debate it was decided to build a long wave transmission station enabling permanent contact with the Dutch East Indies using radio telegraphs.
To establish the radio transmitting station they looked for an uninhabited, remote terrain so there would be minimum interference to the transmission traffic from the environment. The 450 hectare terrain was bought by the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management from the Dutch National Forestry Commission.
About 150 labourers from Amsterdam levelled the terrain. The antenna terrain was constructed as a circular plain with a diameter of approximately 1200 metres, a ring of five 212 metre high masts around a central mast at the foot of the transmitter building. The radio transmission centre was officially put into operation in May 1923, initially for Morse telegraph traffic. The developments in radio technology advanced rapidly. After a few years it became apparent that the long wave connections were outdated and too expensive. They switched to a short wave frequency for a higher signalling rate, better connections, lower energy consumption and smaller equipment.
The station initially operated under the name Radio Assel, but also became known under the name Radio Hoog Buurlo. 'Kootwijk Radio' was the international call sign for radio traffic. Queen Emma brought about the first telephone connection in 1929 with the Dutch East Indies with the legendary words: “Hello Bandoeng Hello Bandoeng! Can you hear me?". The first conversations, which invariably concluded with the Dutch national anthem Wilhelmus, were free as it was still in an experimental phase. Subsequently, people had to pay considerable amounts for a phone call to family members overseas. The PTT (state enterprise for Post, Telegraphs and Telephony of the Netherlands) tried to interest the public in overseas phone calls through advertising. Cheap family phone calls, only on Saturdays with 30% discount off the normal rates cost f 21 in those days for a three minute call to Java, for example. In those days the average weekly salary was f 25.

“It is, in my view, the duty of an apple to be crisp and crunchable, but a pear should have such a texture as leads to silent consumption.”

This is another of the 348 shots I took of this boar eating that big beautiful salmon I have posted several shots of before.
I cropped in a little closer on this one so you could see the salmon's head. Sorry if this is too graphic or unappealing to some but to me it's fascinating. Not something many people see everyday so here it is.
Doesn't mean I'm cold or don't have feelings for the salmon but this is just raw nature and the bears have to survive

EGG HUNTS, BELLS OF ROME: WHERE DO EASTER TRADITIONS COME FROM ?
From Antiquity, fresh or painted and decorated eggs, symbols of a life to come, were offered to express spring renewal.
A tradition adopted by Christians to symbolize the resurrection of Christ: the consumption of eggs, like that of dairy products and meat, had been prohibited by the Church during the 40 days of fasting.
And since the hens continued to lay well during Lent, their eggs were eventually preserved in abundance on Easter Sunday tables and in Easter cooking recipes.
And over time, this tradition declined: the Renaissance leaned more towards decorated eggs, then appeared the very first chocolate eggs in the 18th century.
In the Nordic, Germanic and English-speaking countries, it is a white or blue Easter Bunny (which takes its name from the side where the sun rises, the east, again evocative of renewal) which hides the eggs.
Symbol of love, fertility and life, the rabbit is definitely an animal whose reputation is second to none...
Excellent Sunday artists 😉

The CANOPEE left Bremen on July 4 bound for Montoir, FR. She sailed down the Weser under engine power. Only when she reached the estuary of the Weser into the North Sea near Bremerhaven the sails were hoisted.
The CANOPEE is a RoRo ship that was specially developed for the transportation of the European Ariane 6 launcher. The special feature of this ship is a sail system that supplements the regular propulsion system. Sails with a height of 30 meters and a sail area of 363 m² each can be hoisted on four masts. The sails are designed to drastically reduce fuel consumption.
The Icicle 'Creek' (River depending on time of year) flows from the east side of the Cascade Crest which is the source of water in town, and many local orchards.
We're lucky, despite drought warnings, and reducing water consumption by 15%, that we have such a rich and fairly pure water source.
Out here looking like a sick Victorian woman who might not survive the winter… AND IM LOVING IT!

Time to rejoin the dark side, I they were missing me! After coming to the end of the forest walk right after the snow here in Storkow first arrived, I turned back around I observed the towering mass entities adjoining the dirt track I had just conquered. The slightly misted cold embrace adorned by a ground level of a twisted and gnarled reality sang to me, an exposure time of 1/30 encapsulating the now faded sunlight finalised it, then a render to monochrome and we have a spectacle of what goes so inside my mind some days.
I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! 😊

Week 24: Breaking the Rules
I'd say I broke the rules of proper exposue here as well as the one saying you can only use vintage lenses like this with a lens hood in direct sunlight. Perhaps also some rule on finding an interesting subject and avoiding busy looking backgrounds... who knows. I just had 2 minutes of time before I had to rush back to my kids who were already shopping, so I was only looking for color: Guess I found it!

The red-shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus) is a medium-sized hawk. Its breeding range spans eastern North America and along the coast of California and northern to northeastern-central Mexico.
Red-shouldered hawks are permanent residents throughout most of their range, though northern birds do migrate, mostly to central Mexico. The main conservation threat to the widespread species is deforestation.
An eastern population ranges west through southern Canada from southern New Brunswick and Ontario to the eastern edge of the U.S. Great Plains, south to Florida, the Gulf Coast, and eastern Mexico. Only northernmost populations are migratory.
Red-shouldered hawks are forest raptors. In the east, they live in bottomland hardwood stands, flooded deciduous swamps, and upland mixed deciduous–conifer forests. They tend to live in stands with an open subcanopy, which makes hunting easier.
Red-shouldered hawks search for prey while perched on a treetop or soaring over woodlands. When they sight prey, they kill it by dropping directly onto it from the air. They may cache food near their nest for later consumption. When in clearings, they sometimes fly low to surprise prey. Red-shouldered hawks, like most raptors, have very sharp vision and reasonably good hearing, with talons capable of killing animals at least equal to their own size.
Small mammals are typically the most important prey, especially rodents. Voles, gophers, mice, moles and chipmunks may locally be favored based on abundance. Slightly larger mammals, such as rabbits and tree squirrels, are also occasionally preyed on. Other prey can include amphibians, reptiles (especially small snakes), birds, fish, and large insects.
