This Downy Woodpecker was hammering away with it's pointed bill, making a hole in this tree. A closer look at the head shows the eye covered by the nictitating membrane. The translucent nictitating membrane helps to moisten the eye as well as offer protection.

With the construction of the Lanuza reservoir and the flooding of their lands, the small town of Lanuza lost inhabitants until January 21, 1978 when the last residents abandoned their homes. Subsequently, from the 90s, the recovery of the town began, which today looks as can be seen in the photo and is a model of a Pyrenean town.
Con la construcción del pantano de Lanuza y la anegación de sus tierras, el pequeño pueblo de Lanuza fué perdiendo habitantes hasta que el 21 de enero de 1978 los últimos vecinos abandonaron sus casas. Posteriormente, a partir de la década de los 90, se inició la recuperación del pueblo, que a día de hoy luce como puede apreciarse en la foto y es un modelo de pueblo pirenaico.

In the meantime, WISDOT has stated that without the competition of the third bridge they will be raising the toll on the Gig Harbor side and adding a new one for those attempting to leave Tacoma.
