There is a technical name for these machines, but I like to refer to them as the concrete zambonies. They are providing the specified smoothness to the slab’s finish.

Much of the TransCanada (Highway 1) within Metro Vancouver will be widened under the provincial government's Gateway Program.
The Sprott-Kensington sector will be widened to four lanes. Five lanes wide where there are merging lanes for on- and off-ramps.

Footings between the elevator pit and the existing Donor Wing have been poured, as have the footings to the south east near the museum loading dock. The two, two-story columns have been poured and their formwork removed at the southwest corner of the site. Nearby (but in the basement) the contractor has rolled out the bright yellow damp-proofing membrane that sits beneath the first section of the basement slab on grade.

The third deep footing beneath the elevators has been formed. Along the west side of the site more footings have been dug and the termite protection applied. At the bottom of the photo the jack for the hydraulic service elevator is in place.

Formwork around the east side footings has been removed, and more of the yellow under-slab membrane has been put in place. Columns now grace the large crescent-shaped footing to the south of the elevator pit.

We have to have something to walk on to get the concrete into the top of the form.
August also saw us putting in the second half of the east wall in our basement. After pouring the huge slab of a footing we needed we set up the ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) and had readi-mix concrete delivered by cement truck to fill it up.
