Starbucks is a bit expensive, and we all know that right?
It can take at least 10 dollars off my paycheck every 2 weeks depending on how much I work. There's a Starbucks right across from Banana Republic, and it gets business from me big time. I just don't like how often I find myself shelling out $4.00 for a tall Java Chip! I try to get a Green Tea Lemonade instead, but that still costs as much as a medium coffee at Dunkin Dounuts...

Consistent rain over three days causes flooding of the street. Taken by Teddy on Wed 19 Aug 2013. Fortunately there is a first floor and although the water was about a foot deep Saturn Street was like a river, [This is the backyard, that is the fresh water pump housing on the left, there is no way for the rain water to escape here.]

This is consistently the best all round camera I have ever used. The others all excel at particular things, but this one does all things well. Its light, not so big you cannot shove it into a man's coat pocket, it does not have heavy demands on batteries, the flip out rear screen can be angled all ways.
The x24 optical zoom is outstanding and it has a constant f2.8 through the entire range !
This camera excels in low light, in fact a little too well at times forcing me to go manual to get the exposure I really want, but I am not knocking it for that.
It is fantastic for DH video. I am currently pitching it against the medium range Panasonic V720 camcorder and I have to say that so far I cannot see any big plus for the camcorder, but of this view may change with more experience. The lumix has an external Microphone socket (1.5mm, so buy and adaptor) and takes a Rode mic easily.
NOTE***: Always turn the external microphone on FIRST, then the camera. For some reason this camera does not like it the other way.
ITAUNA BEACH, Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro / Brazil (Wednesday, May, 25, 2011) – The ASP World Prime Coca-Cola presents Oakley Saquarema Prime was begun in good waves at Wednesday at Itauna beach. The first call at 7am was observed in near flat conditions. However, in the second call at 11:30am, the low-tide brought clean and consistent 3-5 ft. (1-1.5 meter) waves which increased in size throughout the day with light winds. Feeling right at home in the peeling lefthander point break, current No. 20 in the ASP World Ranking, Jadson Andre (BRA), scored the day’s highest heat-wave total with an 18.20 out of a possible 20 points.
On his first wave, he started off with a floater and connected it with a huge full rotation air to earn a solid 9.17 points. On his second wave, he began with a big front side punt, followed by several cutbacks all the way to the shore, for a 9.03 to punch in the day’s highest scores; only to be topped by Raoni Monteiro (BRA) in the following heat.
“This event is really important for me,” said Jadson Andre. “Not just because it’s a Prime, but also because it’s being presented by my sponsor (Oakley), so I really want to do well here.”
When asked about how easily he won his heat by using his aerial attack, Jadson commented: “Actually the conditions aren’t that great for throwing airs because the wind is blowing sideways, away from the lefts. But I’ve got a magic board, I feel confident and I’ve got a special way of setting up aerials when the wind is like this. I just let the board follow the wind and the wave. Everything went right and I’m happy to begin this event well.”
Raoni Monteiro (BRA), who lives in Saquarema, threw a powerful backhand hack with total commitment and a high degree of difficulty to get the event’s highest single-wave score, a 9.40 out of 10. “I had some good scores, so I tried to catch the biggest waves of the set because they were really good, opening-up and with a nice face,” said Monteiro.
On the day’s highest single-wave score, Monteiro said: “That high score came off of a left that opened up well and I made that first turn the way the judges like to see them, by really blowing-out the tail. Afterwards, I just kept surfing powerfully until the end of the wave.”
The first heat of the day saw currently ranked #11 ASP World Ranking surfer Michel Bourez (PYF), take control of the smaller waves in the beginning of the contest to win by a small margin over Jay Quinn (NZL) who obtained second-place, 11.50 to 11.27 points. Bourez was questionable to partake in the contest due to a shoulder injury in a wipeout during the Brazilian ASP World Tour in Barra da Tijuca last week.
“It’s still really difficult to surf,” said Bourez. “I’d say I’m at about 60% right now, but the ocean helped me out a lot today. The waves weren’t that powerful, which was good for me because I’m still in a lot of pain”.
Another elite surfer who made it directly to the Round of 48 was Australian, Matt Wilkinson. Wilko qualified in second-place behind Nathan Yeomans (USA), eliminating Shaun Joubert (ZAF) and young surfer Caio Ibelli (BRA).
“The waves were really tough during my heat,” said Wilkinson. “I ended up making a bunch of mistakes, but I was still able to qualify. The waves started breaking in different directions and it was a really difficult heat. I hope the next few days bring bigger and better waves so I can surf better than I did today (Wednesday).”
The second heat of the day was an all-international affair, with Marc Lacomare (FRA) getting the day’s first single-wave high score of an 8.5 out of 10 to defeat Yadin Nicol (AUS), Alain Riou (PYF) and Maxime Huscenot (FRA) respectively.
“It’s my first time here in Saquarema,” said Lacomare. “These kinds of waves really suit my style, I like them a lot. So much so that I was able to win the heat with one really good wave which I rode to the end. I like this place a lot. It´s really beautiful and I want to do my best here.”
Heat 3 of the day saw each surfer finish in the 12 point range. Granger Larsen (HAW) who was sitting at #31 of the ASP World Ranking (the first 32 qualify for the elite tour after the mid-season rotation) was eliminated from the event. The closely fought heat was won by Lincoln Taylor (AUS) with 12.90 points and Ben Dunn in second place with a 12.40. Larsen with 12.24 and Chris Waring (USA) with an exactly 12 points were eliminated.
Leading the hunt for the ASP World Tour title, #1 ranked surfer, Adriano de Souza (BRA), was scheduled to surf in the last heat of the day (Heat 12) at Itauna beach. However, due to the setting sun’s diminishing light, the heat will be the first to start off tomorrow (Thursday) at 7am local time against Hodei Collazo (EUK) and fellow Brazilians, Junior Faria and Gilmar Silva.

The National Wallace Monument commemorates Sir William Wallace. He was one of the very few who consistently opposed the efforts of King Edward I of England to impose his will, and ultimately his supremacy, over Scotland and the Scots in the years around 1300.
The Wallace, as he is often known, is one of the most powerful, most evocative, and most well recognised figures from Scottish history. It is a fair bet that today his name is better known worldwide than most, if not all, of Scotland's monarchs.
Yet he was never a king; his notable deeds took place over a very short period of time, part of which he actually spent in France; he fought just two major battles and emerged with a score of won one and lost one, and in the end he was betrayed and executed.
There's a contradiction here. Behind it lies the stunningly good press that William Wallace has received over the centuries. Most notably, the bard Blind Harry wrote an epic 1470 poem, The Acts and Deeds of Sir William Wallace, Knight of Elderslie. This introduced the story of Wallace as the heroic figure we now all know, at times without too much regard for the actual historical facts.
But it was not Blind Harry who brought Wallace's story to the attention of a worldwide audience, it was Mel Gibson. His 1995 film Braveheart added another layer of artistic license to the one already applied by Blind Harry. The result has been criticised for its lack of historical accuracy. But critics of what is, without doubt, a superbly entertaining and enormously popular film, miss the point. The point is that the historical accuracy of the film doesn't really matter, just as the historical accuracy of Blind Harry's poem didn't really matter. People believe what they want to believe, and for a nation in search of national heroes, William Wallace fitted the bill perfectly: and still does.
But let's wind the story back to the mid-1800s. Scotland, with more than a little help from Sir Walter Scott, was going through an earlier phase of the rediscovery of its sense of national pride and identity after a period during which for many it had become "North Britain". Blind Harry's William Wallace was a perfect focus for the celebration of this new sense of identity and as a result statues of him and monuments to him began to spring up all over the country, with more than 20 being built in all.
But many wanted a national monument to William Wallace that could be venerated by everyone in Scotland. Funds were raised from the public, and a competition was launched for a design for the monument after an initial proposal was deemed too anti-English (of a Scottish lion in the act of killing a mythical English creature). 106 entries were submitted and the design that was selected was by the Scots Baronial architect J.T. Rochead.
His approach was to marry together two uniquely Scottish features. He took the traditional design of a Scottish tower house castle, complete with an external stair turret, and stretched it vertically. Then he added to the top a stone crown spire, of the sort seen atop the towers of St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh and King's College in Aberdeen.
The question of location had been decided some years earlier. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow wanted to be home to the monument, and Stirling was chosen mainly because it could be seen as neutral territory. Having decided on Stirling, the choice of the rocky outcrop of Abbey Craig was an obvious one for the monument, for three main reasons. Firstly, if you are going to build a monument intended to make a statement, putting it on top of a high outcrop of rock allows it to make the biggest statement possible. Secondly, Abbey Craig could be quarried to provide the stone needed to build the monument.
The third reason for the location was that Abbey Craig overlooks the site of William Wallace's most notable victory over the English, the Battle of Stirling Bridge, which took place on 11 September 1297. This was fought around the original wooden bridge over the River Forth at Stirling, in the shadow of Stirling Castle and just below Abbey Craig. The original bridge lay a short distance upstream from the stone bridge known today as Old Stirling Bridge. The Scots attacked from the Abbey Craig when the English were half deployed across the bridge and won an overwhelming victory. After the battle, Wallace was knighted by an unnamed Earl and became Sir William Wallace "Guardian of the Kingdom of Scotland and leader of its armies." His co-leader, Andrew Murray fared less well, dying some time later from wounds received during the battle. Wallace followed up the victory by leading the Scots into Northumberland and Cumbria, retreating only when the weather became too bad to continue the campaign.
The true historical significance of the Battle of Stirling Bridge is debatable. The English returned to Scotland in early 1298, trying to draw Wallace into open battle. This eventually happened at the Battle of Falkirk, on 22 July 1298. Defeat there was the beginning of the end for Wallace who was eventually executed in London on 23 August 1305. But as we've already said, none of this is really about history: the myth of Wallace has a life of its own that remains hugely influential.
The National Wallace Monument you see today was completed in 1869 after eight years' construction. It stands some 220ft or 67m high, and Abbey Craig adds a further 300ft or 91m, meaning that the top of the monument stands 520ft above the (tidal) River Forth below.

The Japanese spent the 1970s and 80 consistently improving quality and features in the cars they produced. This led Toyota to introduce a new marque to sit above their mainstream cars, named Lexus. Nissan did the same with Infinti, Mazda with Amati, and Honda with Acura.

We will continue our tour Niagara Falls by heading into Canada to take the Hornblower Cruise boat ride and see an informational movie at the IMAX Theater. We will also ascend the Skylon Tower. The tour then departs for Toronto, ON, one of Canada's largest cities. There we will visit the CN Tower and guests will have the option to take a Lake Ontario Cruise. During the winter when the cruise is not running, we will instead visit Casa Loma. We will have dinner in historical Chinatown.

It has consistently been voted one of the Ten Best Beaches in The World by Condé Nast Traveler magazine and has received similar recognition from other publications. The National Geographic Society has labeled Trunk Bay as the most beautiful beach in the world. It is one of the most popular beaches on the island whose amenities include a snack bar, showers and restrooms, lifeguards, and an underwater trail for snorkeling its coral reef. The beach area is divided into two halves, the main Trunk Bay beach and swim area and Burgesman Cove which is located on the west end of Trunk Bay near Jumbie Bay. Trunk Bay is the only National Park beach on Saint John which requires a fee to visit.

Ah Professional Wrestling.. or as someone once called it, "Male Soap Opera". Full of all sorts of plots, storylines, and drama. While there are highs and lows with regards to the motivation of the players, the one thing that is consistent is the fact it is a very physically demanding occupation.
I don't watch any of it these days, but I was a bit more active during what is known as the "Attitude Era", which took place during the 2000s. This wonderful time made many prominent new stars, such as Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock, as well as continued the development of preexisting players like The Undertaker and of course, master of The Pedigree - Triple H, Hunter Hearst Hemsley, The Cerebral Assassin, The Game, The King of Kings... whatever you like to call him.
Picked him up on a whim cause he was cheap and more importantly, I had visions of Woody getting slammed and was curious how well articulated the wrestling bodies were.
My best guess is that this is based on a beefier standard body, and not the Tamashii Nations "Fighting Body" that the Street Fighter figures are based on.
Content wise, the set does alright. You get the figure, three total expressions (neutral, yelling, smiling), three sets of hands (closed fists, weapon grabbing fists, opening and closing fists), sledgehammer, and bottle of water. The only thing that would have been nice to add would have been a water spay effect.
Triple H certainly looks the part.. well mostly. The body is never going to be 100% accurate, but it does get his musculature and overall silhouette pretty accurately, with a somewhat undersized chest and honestly, not enough body hair for Attitude era Triple H.
The hair on his head, much like with Infinity War Widow, is gold instead of blonde, and is decently detailed for a figure of this size. Faces are hit and miss - the neutral face is fairly well done. They got expression, and the general shape of Triple H's brow, nose, and eyes. In the right light, you get a really good photo of him.
The yelling and laughing faces are... serviceable. In the right light, they're terrible, and you can be sure I had some fun with that.
Articulation isn't as refined as I'd like for a wrestling figure. I mean sure, the main points of articulation are there - ankles, double jointed knee, hips with thigh swivel, mid torso, shoulders with chest collapse, double jointed elbows with elbow twist, wrists, neck, and head. The hair, much like other figures with hair that drapes down close to the body, affects the ability of the figure to turn its head.
Ankles can rotate a full 360 degrees so you can replicate Kurt Angle breaking it, I suppose.
The chest collapse allows for pretty good replication of various holds, but the posing of the upper body is somewhat hampered by the elbows not allowing as deep a bend as I'd like.
While the hips pull down to allow for greater range of motion, the thighs are designed such in a full seated position they do no come together, which can make posing posing drivers or other seated slams a bit challenging.
Similar to the elbows, the knees could have used a bit more range of motion, but to do that you'd probably have to cut into the thigh and mess with silhouette.
From a paint perspective, he's deceptively simple looking. While not as vibrant as the other figures I've looked at. there's actually quite a bit of paint on the figure. For starters, the flesh coloured parts are almost all painted, with some dark airbrushing to emphasize muscles. It's the lack of colours that makes things hard to see. Overall, you get smooth paint applications, with average-at-best masking, especially given how simple the actual masking spots are. The digital face painting itself seems to be reasonably sharp, with the sculpt itself being what throws things off.
Build quality is what you expect - solid across the board. No issues with joint strength, limbs are the right length, parts hold together well, and no alignment issues. The finish isn't quite a strong as a Figma in terms of hiding seam lines, but again, Fiiguarts rarely are.
A neat figure and a pretty good Triple H, probably no worse off in terms of accuracy as any other figure based on a live action property. Not sure how well these (the WWE Figuarts line) sold, based on the pricing I've seen, but I imagine over here it's a bit tougher to get wrestling fans to buy based on the MSRP, even if the body and accuracy are better than your run of the mill figure. The sledgehammer was definitely a must have in this set... Triple H without a sledgehammer is like selling Stone Cold without a beer.
I've got a few interesting figures waiting to be unboxed, and one or two coming in the mail, a group of which includes a few things that effectively showed up because of "support local business" and aren't in my appetite.

ITAUNA BEACH, Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro / Brazil (Wednesday, May, 25, 2011) – The ASP World Prime Coca-Cola presents Oakley Saquarema Prime was begun in good waves at Wednesday at Itauna beach. The first call at 7am was observed in near flat conditions. However, in the second call at 11:30am, the low-tide brought clean and consistent 3-5 ft. (1-1.5 meter) waves which increased in size throughout the day with light winds. Feeling right at home in the peeling lefthander point break, current No. 20 in the ASP World Ranking, Jadson Andre (BRA), scored the day’s highest heat-wave total with an 18.20 out of a possible 20 points.
On his first wave, he started off with a floater and connected it with a huge full rotation air to earn a solid 9.17 points. On his second wave, he began with a big front side punt, followed by several cutbacks all the way to the shore, for a 9.03 to punch in the day’s highest scores; only to be topped by Raoni Monteiro (BRA) in the following heat.
“This event is really important for me,” said Jadson Andre. “Not just because it’s a Prime, but also because it’s being presented by my sponsor (Oakley), so I really want to do well here.”
When asked about how easily he won his heat by using his aerial attack, Jadson commented: “Actually the conditions aren’t that great for throwing airs because the wind is blowing sideways, away from the lefts. But I’ve got a magic board, I feel confident and I’ve got a special way of setting up aerials when the wind is like this. I just let the board follow the wind and the wave. Everything went right and I’m happy to begin this event well.”
Raoni Monteiro (BRA), who lives in Saquarema, threw a powerful backhand hack with total commitment and a high degree of difficulty to get the event’s highest single-wave score, a 9.40 out of 10. “I had some good scores, so I tried to catch the biggest waves of the set because they were really good, opening-up and with a nice face,” said Monteiro.
On the day’s highest single-wave score, Monteiro said: “That high score came off of a left that opened up well and I made that first turn the way the judges like to see them, by really blowing-out the tail. Afterwards, I just kept surfing powerfully until the end of the wave.”
The first heat of the day saw currently ranked #11 ASP World Ranking surfer Michel Bourez (PYF), take control of the smaller waves in the beginning of the contest to win by a small margin over Jay Quinn (NZL) who obtained second-place, 11.50 to 11.27 points. Bourez was questionable to partake in the contest due to a shoulder injury in a wipeout during the Brazilian ASP World Tour in Barra da Tijuca last week.
“It’s still really difficult to surf,” said Bourez. “I’d say I’m at about 60% right now, but the ocean helped me out a lot today. The waves weren’t that powerful, which was good for me because I’m still in a lot of pain”.
Another elite surfer who made it directly to the Round of 48 was Australian, Matt Wilkinson. Wilko qualified in second-place behind Nathan Yeomans (USA), eliminating Shaun Joubert (ZAF) and young surfer Caio Ibelli (BRA).
“The waves were really tough during my heat,” said Wilkinson. “I ended up making a bunch of mistakes, but I was still able to qualify. The waves started breaking in different directions and it was a really difficult heat. I hope the next few days bring bigger and better waves so I can surf better than I did today (Wednesday).”
The second heat of the day was an all-international affair, with Marc Lacomare (FRA) getting the day’s first single-wave high score of an 8.5 out of 10 to defeat Yadin Nicol (AUS), Alain Riou (PYF) and Maxime Huscenot (FRA) respectively.
“It’s my first time here in Saquarema,” said Lacomare. “These kinds of waves really suit my style, I like them a lot. So much so that I was able to win the heat with one really good wave which I rode to the end. I like this place a lot. It´s really beautiful and I want to do my best here.”
Heat 3 of the day saw each surfer finish in the 12 point range. Granger Larsen (HAW) who was sitting at #31 of the ASP World Ranking (the first 32 qualify for the elite tour after the mid-season rotation) was eliminated from the event. The closely fought heat was won by Lincoln Taylor (AUS) with 12.90 points and Ben Dunn in second place with a 12.40. Larsen with 12.24 and Chris Waring (USA) with an exactly 12 points were eliminated.
Leading the hunt for the ASP World Tour title, #1 ranked surfer, Adriano de Souza (BRA), was scheduled to surf in the last heat of the day (Heat 12) at Itauna beach. However, due to the setting sun’s diminishing light, the heat will be the first to start off tomorrow (Thursday) at 7am local time against Hodei Collazo (EUK) and fellow Brazilians, Junior Faria and Gilmar Silva.

The Corvette has been a consistent seller for GM, through good economic times and bad.
So it's a mystery why this particular economic downturn has sent Corvette sales into the proverbial toilet; down by almost 2/3 since 2007. It's a sign of extreme loyalty within the company that the Corvette survived GM's bankruptcy, when the Solstice, Sky, and the Corvette brother-under-the-skin, the Cadillac XLR, went extinct.
Why have Corvette sales suddenly hit the doldrums? It may be that consumers increasingly see a two-seat car as impractical, even though, according to the Government's Office of Technology Assessment, 95% of all work commutes and 83% of all car trips are taken with ONE person in the vehicle. Isn't it more impractical to buy a 5000 lb, 13mpg, 8-passenger SUV to haul 50 lb. bags of manure home from Lowe's once a year, or a bunch of Little Leaguers to an away game once a week?
But perception is perception, and even at Porsche, the sales situation with the 911 is sufficiently dire that, for a short time, Porsche was promoting it as a "family car" on the basis of its vestigial rear seats.
But back to Corvette. Maybe the upcoming 2014(?) C7 will bring things back to 30,000/yr. volumes.
Or maybe GM will have to live with 10-15K as the new normal. In any case, GM would be foolish indeed to get ride of the one car that sets almost every American male jaw to drooling, whether they admit it or not. Or maybe they can pitch its relative ease of driveability and 25mpg highway gas mileage to well-to-do, professional women.
Just tossing out ideas here, but the idea is to keep it in production, and the way to do that is to increase sales, by any means necessary. Something like Dean's recent pitch for eggnog as an Easter beverage, too. Or Swanson in the '50's, inventing TV dinners (now frozen entrees) to get rid of an oversupply of leftover Thanksgiving turkeys. Whatever it takes, folks.

We will continue our tour Niagara Falls by heading into Canada to take the Hornblower Cruise boat ride and see an informational movie at the IMAX Theater. We will also ascend the Skylon Tower. The tour then departs for Toronto, ON, one of Canada's largest cities. There we will visit the CN Tower and guests will have the option to take a Lake Ontario Cruise. During the winter when the cruise is not running, we will instead visit Casa Loma. We will have dinner in historical Chinatown.

The tour then departs for Toronto, ON, one of Canada's largest cities. There we will visit the CN Tower and guests will have the option to take a Lake Ontario Cruise. During the winter when the cruise is not running, we will instead visit Casa Loma. We will have dinner in historical Chinatown.

The National Wallace Monument commemorates Sir William Wallace. He was one of the very few who consistently opposed the efforts of King Edward I of England to impose his will, and ultimately his supremacy, over Scotland and the Scots in the years around 1300.
The Wallace, as he is often known, is one of the most powerful, most evocative, and most well recognised figures from Scottish history. It is a fair bet that today his name is better known worldwide than most, if not all, of Scotland's monarchs.
Yet he was never a king; his notable deeds took place over a very short period of time, part of which he actually spent in France; he fought just two major battles and emerged with a score of won one and lost one, and in the end he was betrayed and executed.
There's a contradiction here. Behind it lies the stunningly good press that William Wallace has received over the centuries. Most notably, the bard Blind Harry wrote an epic 1470 poem, The Acts and Deeds of Sir William Wallace, Knight of Elderslie. This introduced the story of Wallace as the heroic figure we now all know, at times without too much regard for the actual historical facts.
But it was not Blind Harry who brought Wallace's story to the attention of a worldwide audience, it was Mel Gibson. His 1995 film Braveheart added another layer of artistic license to the one already applied by Blind Harry. The result has been criticised for its lack of historical accuracy. But critics of what is, without doubt, a superbly entertaining and enormously popular film, miss the point. The point is that the historical accuracy of the film doesn't really matter, just as the historical accuracy of Blind Harry's poem didn't really matter. People believe what they want to believe, and for a nation in search of national heroes, William Wallace fitted the bill perfectly: and still does.
But let's wind the story back to the mid-1800s. Scotland, with more than a little help from Sir Walter Scott, was going through an earlier phase of the rediscovery of its sense of national pride and identity after a period during which for many it had become "North Britain". Blind Harry's William Wallace was a perfect focus for the celebration of this new sense of identity and as a result statues of him and monuments to him began to spring up all over the country, with more than 20 being built in all.
But many wanted a national monument to William Wallace that could be venerated by everyone in Scotland. Funds were raised from the public, and a competition was launched for a design for the monument after an initial proposal was deemed too anti-English (of a Scottish lion in the act of killing a mythical English creature). 106 entries were submitted and the design that was selected was by the Scots Baronial architect J.T. Rochead.
His approach was to marry together two uniquely Scottish features. He took the traditional design of a Scottish tower house castle, complete with an external stair turret, and stretched it vertically. Then he added to the top a stone crown spire, of the sort seen atop the towers of St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh and King's College in Aberdeen.
The question of location had been decided some years earlier. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow wanted to be home to the monument, and Stirling was chosen mainly because it could be seen as neutral territory. Having decided on Stirling, the choice of the rocky outcrop of Abbey Craig was an obvious one for the monument, for three main reasons. Firstly, if you are going to build a monument intended to make a statement, putting it on top of a high outcrop of rock allows it to make the biggest statement possible. Secondly, Abbey Craig could be quarried to provide the stone needed to build the monument.
The third reason for the location was that Abbey Craig overlooks the site of William Wallace's most notable victory over the English, the Battle of Stirling Bridge, which took place on 11 September 1297. This was fought around the original wooden bridge over the River Forth at Stirling, in the shadow of Stirling Castle and just below Abbey Craig. The original bridge lay a short distance upstream from the stone bridge known today as Old Stirling Bridge. The Scots attacked from the Abbey Craig when the English were half deployed across the bridge and won an overwhelming victory. After the battle, Wallace was knighted by an unnamed Earl and became Sir William Wallace "Guardian of the Kingdom of Scotland and leader of its armies." His co-leader, Andrew Murray fared less well, dying some time later from wounds received during the battle. Wallace followed up the victory by leading the Scots into Northumberland and Cumbria, retreating only when the weather became too bad to continue the campaign.
The true historical significance of the Battle of Stirling Bridge is debatable. The English returned to Scotland in early 1298, trying to draw Wallace into open battle. This eventually happened at the Battle of Falkirk, on 22 July 1298. Defeat there was the beginning of the end for Wallace who was eventually executed in London on 23 August 1305. Some observations on boiling apple butter.
The Fire: There needs to be a consistent high intensity fire with a broad base (extending a bit beyond
the kettle base). Wood pieces need to be of a size that permits steady additions under the kettle area.
Wood needs to be dry for quick ignition. Our cider boil down stage was a bit slow . . . the fire a bit small
and of inconsistent intensity. The photos attached show different firing scenes.
The Sugar:
There is always a controversy about how much sugar to put in the apple butter. We added 6 pounds. An approximation calculation gives a 1 once per pint ratio. I found this to leave the taste quite on the tartr side, so I added 1 ounce of sugar to a pint of the Hertzler mix.
I have 3 other samples in my fridge. Comparing the Hertzler Mix with the addition of 1 ounce per pint or 12 pounds vs. 6 pounds in our product), I found : Peachey Family - Very similar ( 12 pounds in the mix) , Smucker’s – Very similar (no spices added). Musselman’s - More sweet (cinnamon & clove)
The Smucker Apple Butter has the same simple ingredients: apples. Cider and sugar (corn syrup)
On batch size and time:
We use the full family recipe size which produces a large amount of apple butter and takes a long time.
Question – Would not a 3⁄4 size be advantageous in several respects. It would take less time, require less wood and all ingredients and also be less weight on the 3 leg kettle support (on which I want to consult a blacksmith regarding the age and possible weakness under intense heat)
A three quarter recipe would be: 2 1⁄4 bushels of apples (Grade A)
. 19 gallons of cider
. 9 to 10 pounds of sugar.

Phalacrocoracidae is a family of some 40 species of aquatic birds commonly known as cormorants and shags. Do you think they're eligible for trivial commercial ads? Well, that's the tricky question really, isn't it? LMAO... I purposely pick up this shot simply the reason, the visibility sense of happiness. They have a few experiments on posting, facial expression, but i wanted them to have a cheerful smile. Hence, what i did was come up with some jokes and make them laughing, then quickly press the shuttle and here you go.
I find the laughter quite easily persuasive, even with the dull or boring texture at the backdrop. Still we able to produce the simplest way of happiness atmosphere.

We will continue our tour Niagara Falls by heading into Canada to take the Hornblower Cruise boat ride and see an informational movie at the IMAX Theater. We will also ascend the Skylon Tower. The tour then departs for Toronto, ON, one of Canada's largest cities. There we will visit the CN Tower and guests will have the option to take a Lake Ontario Cruise. During the winter when the cruise is not running, we will instead visit Casa Loma. We will have dinner in historical Chinatown.

El Ministerio de Inclusión Económica y Social MIES, a través de su Programa Aliméntate Ecuador y la Dirección Nacional de Atención Integral a Personas Adultas Mayores, presentó la campaña nacional de sensibilización sobre la situación actual de los Adultos mayores en el Ecuador.
El rápido crecimiento de personas adultas mayores en todo el mundo está creando una revolución demográfica global sin precedentes, Ecuador no esta exento de esta problemática.
El proceso de envejecimiento poblacional se complica por el flujo migratorio urbano e internacional que determina que la proporción entre adultos jóvenes versus adultos mayores decrezca. Las personas mayores están consistentemente entre las más pobres de todas las sociedades y su seguridad material es una de las más grandes preocupaciones de la vejez. Muchos experimentan la misma falta de recurso físicos, activo y de ingresos que sienten los pobres, pero sin los recursos, capacidad ni actividad de los jóvenes.
El envejecimiento puede producirse a velocidad variable dependiendo de varios factores entre ellos la nutrición. Aunque ningún tipo de alimento logra retardar el proceso, es innegable que la nutrición en su conjunto influye en la longevidad. Dado que la buena nutrición y la buena salud son inseparables, los efectos de una dieta defectuosa aparecen tarde o temprano.
El estado nutricional del adulto mayor está relacionado con el propio proceso de envejecimiento, y este proceso está influenciado por el estado nutricional mantenido a lo largo de la vida. Durante el envejecimiento, se producen cambios corporales (aumento de masa grasa, disminución de masa magra), aparecen alteraciones metabólicas y alimentarias, coexisten enfermedades crónicas y agudas, las alteraciones en el gusto, la falta de movilidad, la ausencia de dientes, así como las alteraciones gastro intestinales y el estreñimiento contribuyen al deterioro nutricional. Asimismo, el estado nutricional del adulto mayor se relaciona con el deterioro de sus capacidades funcionales (Schneider, 2006). La pobreza, el aislamiento social, las creencias y prácticas culturales contribuyen también al mal estado nutricional de las personas adultas mayores. La nutrición adecuada, el ejercicio físico, la eliminación de hábitos tóxicos y la práctica de prevenciones propias de la edad como el uso adecuado de vacunas, se asocia significativamente con la longevidad, que es el envejecimiento saludable o exitoso.
De acuerdo a las Naciones Unidas, América Latina y el Caribe llegarán al año 2050 con 112 personas de 60 años y más por cada 100 personas de 15 años o menos. Para ese entonces la población de adultos mayores tendrá un tremendo impacto en cada dimensión de la vida: al nivel familiar, social, económico y de salud. Si bien por un lado la longevidad es un regalo preciado para las familias ya que ofrece un continuo intercambio intergeneracional, al mismo tiempo es un reto para la sociedad el ajustar los ciclos trabajo y retiro exigiendo de las instituciones, hacer los necesarios cambios para garantizar adecuados servicios sociales y de salud a la población de adultos mayores, para lo cual requerirá de la asignación de recursos, de profesionales calificados, que ofrezcan servicios a lo largo del curso de la vida con una visión de un envejecimiento saludable.
Ecuador no esta libre de este compromiso. Ecuador para el año 2050 tendrá 3.200.000 adultos mayores que requerirán de toda la atención necesaria para asegurarle un envejecimiento saludable y un apoyo familiar y social acorde con sus necesidades. Es por esto que el gobierno nacional se propuso diseñar políticas y estrategias que atiendan a la población actual de adultos mayores y prevea, para el futuro no lejano, programas de atención efectivos y oportunos.
La estrategia de atención integral al adulto mayor del MIES contribuye a mejorar la calidad de vida de los adultos mayores más necesitados del país, mediante el mantenimiento o mejoramiento de su estado nutricional, con la entrega de un complemento alimenticio “Vilcabamba” cuya finalidad es garantizar el 30% de los requerimientos nutricionales diarios del adulto mayor, y a través de las acciones de protección integral derivadas de la atención especial al adulto mayor en la dirección de gerontología, además de la entrega del bono de desarrollo humano y sus servicios a las personas vulnerables de este grupo de edad.
La pobreza en nuestro país se expresa en la población de adultos mayores con bajos niveles de ingresos y de educación siendo más crítica para las mujeres y, más para aquellas en edad avanzada, pues ahí se agravan los problemas de salud física, mental y sicológica.
En promedio el 36.6 por ciento de adultos mayores comen dos veces al día, y el 6% solo una vez. 4 de cada 10 adultos mayores viven en condiciones regulares y 3 de cada 10 viven en indigencia especialmente en el sector Sierra rural (indígenas y afroecuatorianos). 1 de cada 3 de 75 años reportan deterioro de la capacidad cognitiva y más de la mitad de las personas adultas indigentes experimentan depresión y están mal nutridas. Aproximadamente el 70% de todas las muertes de los adultos mayores son causadas por enfermedades crónicas como: cáncer, enfermedades cardíacas, cerebros vasculares, pulmonares, diabetes, hipertensión y depresión.
Debido a este aumento progresivo de adultos mayores, implica que si no se toman las medidas pertinentes a la brevedad posible, el Ecuador no podrá responder a la demanda de protección social y de servicios de salud, además del estado de invisibilización de esta problemática, que produce entre otras cosas, el abandono y poco interés de la sociedad y de la institucionalidad del estado con respecto del Adulto Mayor en el país. La sensibilización como primer paso de implementación de la estrategia es parte de las metodologías educativas y formativas aplicadas por el MIES-Programa Aliméntate Ecuador aplicadas con éxito en la producción de cambios de comportamiento y hábitos inadecuados de la población. Esta sensibilización pretende encontrar respuestas de apoyo necesarias a los proyectos emprendidos por el MIES-Programa Aliméntate Ecuador con respecto al Adulto Mayor y visibilizar la situación actual en la que se encuentran los Adultos Mayores en el Ecuador, apelando a la emotividad y sentimientos de las familias e instituciones.
Tanto por la necesidad imperiosa de visibilizar los problemas de los adultos mayores actuales, como la de concienciar a la población en el proceso de envejecimiento y así tomar acciones profundas al respecto de esta problemática, se ha emprendido la campaña nacional de sensibilización sobre la situación actual del adulto mayor en el país, buscando una respuesta de apoyo de la sociedad en su conjunto y una movilización ciudadana para mejorar las condiciones de los adultos mayores y de los procesos de envejecimiento.
Por otro lado es indispensable visualizar con la campaña, que parte de los problemas del grupo etáreo están íntimamente relacionados a los problemas de alimentación de las personas en su vida como niños, jóvenes y adultos. (Basta con relacionar la prevalencia de problemas de salud de los adultos mayores en cuanto a enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles y las deficiencias alimentarias a lo largo del ciclo de vida para darse cuenta de la importancia de la campaña de sensibilización).
La estrategia de comunicación en primer lugar es un acompañamiento a todas las acciones institucionales del MIES, tanto a nivel de la Dirección de Gerontología, INFA, PPS y Aliméntate Ecuador con respecto a la población Adulto Mayor del país, es decir, apoya comunicacionalmente a cada uno de los proyectos.
Para este cambio de actitud en la sociedad se vio necesario un mensaje impactante, con un concepto fuerte que lleve a la reflexión y a la acción. La campaña, en esta primera fase 2011, tendrá una duración de 3 meses abarcando dos tónicas distintas, una de concientización y otra de acción. El despliegue en medios ATL y BTL está diseñado para llegar a nivel nacional a todas las ciudades y comunidades ecuatorianas; con el único fin de dar el gran paso y devolver al adulto mayor el rol que merece en la sociedad; entendiendo que en el futuro todos llegaremos a esa etapa de la vida y cada arruga será una historia.
