Back to Akihabara and went to the Akiba Cultures Zone. Packed with so many things I love and there even an entire floor dedicated to consignment sale cubicles for individual collectors to rid of their unwanted items. Another heaven on earth but then again no seats to rest during shopping!

A consignment of wheat seed samples undergoing final preparations for shipment to the USDA's National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation (NCGRP) at Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. Duplicates of the accessions in CIMMYT's germplasm bank are prepared and sent to partner banks as backups in case of disaster. This shipment, sent in December 2009, contained 76,756 accessions.

These boots are proof that consignment shops are some of the best places to shop. These barely used boots were purchased at a second hand store in Joplin, Missouri.

Workers at CIMMYT's El Batán, Mexico headquarters unload a consignment of wheat seed that has just arrived from CIMMYT wheat multiplication plots in Mexicali, northwest Mexico.

All the seed that CIMMYT sends out through the International Wheat Improvement Network (IWIN) international nurseries goes through a two-step multiplication process in fungicide-protected quarantine nurseries to ensure that it is free of the disease Karnal bunt. It is first planted at El Batán, where the resulting seed undergoes rigorous treatment and seed health assessment. It is then sent for quarantine multiplication in Mexicali. Mexicali is recognized by the Mexican Government, the North American Plant Protection Organization (NAPPO), and the European Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) as a Karnal bunt-free area. CIMMYT’s field plots in Mexicali are repeatedly treated with systemic fungicides, visually inspected, and sampled for more diagnostic pathogen testing. The seed then undergoes one more round of health testing at El Batán before being prepared for export.

A pair of feet deliver some wine to a restaurant on George IV Bridge, Edinburgh.

This cute thing was sent in for consignment (Sold) with the hopes that it wouldn't need much to get it going. Unfortunately, it needed a little bit. Now that it's done, though, man does it have that classic K'zoo tenor sound. It's sort-of breathy, open, and punchy with a good, wide, lower-mids voice to it. I'm not entirely sure of the year as the factory order number at the neckblock is super-faint, but it seems to have an A suffix which would point to 1935.

Old work done on this included some bridge reprofiling, a replacement bone saddle, a dressing or perhaps refret with smaller stock, and three crack repairs to the top. Someone also put some nice, expensive banjo tuners at the headstock, too. Good on them! They look classy as heck. I did some extra, and so...

Repairs included: a neck reset, fret level/dress, cleaning, and setup. I also added side dots to the neck.

Setup notes: action is 1/16" overall at the 12th fret, the neck is straight, and it's strung with 42w, 30w, 18w, 12 gauges for GDAE "Celtic" or "octave mandolin" tuning. The same saddle will work for standard CGDA gauges but I will need to compensate it a little extra for Chicago-style DGBE stringing.

Scale length: 22 13/16"

Nut width: 1 3/16"

String spacing at nut: 15/16"

String spacing at bridge: 1 1/4"

Body length: 17 3/8"

Lower bout width: 14 3/4"

Waist width: 8 3/4"

Upper bout width: 9 7/8"

Side depth at endpin: 4"

Top wood: solid spruce

Back/sides wood: solid mahogany

Neck wood: mahogany

Bracing type: ladder

Fretboard: rosewood, ebony nut

Bridge: rosewood, replacement bone saddle

Neck feel: medium V-shape neck, flat board

Condition notes: it's in very good shape but has 3 repaired hairline cracks to the top, sanded/buffed finish to the bridge's surface compared to original, a replacement saddle, new side dots at the neck, and replacement tuners. There's a scuffed area on the lower-bout-treble-side (seen in pics). The bridgepins and endpin appear to be original celluloid.

It comes with: an original red-brown chip case.
