Every year millions of people visit the South Rim, thousands the North Rim, but how many go to the East Rim?
The view of the Confluence of the Colorado and Little Colorado rivers from the East Rim is among the very best in the Grand Canyon N.P. Incredibly this view is little known, probably because of its remoteness and because it lies on Navajo Nation land.
It’s just after 6am, 10 min before sunrise, the glow of light is there, what a view!!!!

View from the East rim of the Grand Canyon down to where Colorado River and Little Colorado River merge into each other. The Little Colorado carries usually a turquoise color, but on this particular day it was brown. Rain up the river tinged the water while the Colorado River kept its usual dark green color.

Sangam ( Confluence point )

The Zanskar is a north-flowing tributary of the river Indus.
Nimmu is a beautiful valley that marks the confluence of the Indus River and Zanskar River.
The Indus River drains the dry and deserted terrains of Ladakh's landlocked valley and serves as its lifeline.
Zanskar, on the other hand, is a tributary of this river and merges into it from the north-eastern direction. On its way to the meeting point, the river passes through the spectacular Zanskar Gorge, which is a dream destination for city trekkers.
In summer, tourists flock tho this areas, making rafting trips, typically from Chiling to Nimmu.
In the winter season, when the road to Zanskar is closed by snow on the high passes, the only overland route to Padum is by walking along/on the frozen river, a multi-day hike that is now sold as an adventure activity called the Chadar ('ice sheet') Trek

This one preferred my car to the field full of native plants and trees that can be seen in the reflection on the windshield of my car. The ones that landed on my car mainly stayed on the black rubber molding around lights, windshield etc. At first I thought this was a Monarch. The black lateral line on the hind wings distinguish it from a Monarch.

This rather uninspiring view looks Northwards from a point approximately 3 miles North of my home in Boston, Lincolnshire UK. At first glance a typical field, one of hundreds in the heart of the fertile Lincolnshire Fens. This field however is special, because right before the camera lies the point where the lines of 53°N latitude and 0° longitude cross, known to geographers as a confluence point.
There are 64,442 such points on the Earth's surface, and you're never more than 49 miles from one. This particular point is the only one in Lincolnshire, and the most Northerly of three UK confluences that lie on the 0° Greenwich Meridian (the next one on land is in Alaska).
I've included the GPS reading from my Garmin navigator taken at this point displaying only integer numbers, no minutes or seconds. The display's second line suggests East, however that's only because I walked from that direction. The location is simply 0° because the Greewich Meridian is the World datum, it's neither East nor West.
Seeking out these points (a pursuit known as Confluence Hunting) has become popular worldwide, and an ongoing project to photograph all of the Earth's land confluence points can be found at
Taken from the Confluence viewing tower in Hartford Illinois.Center right, is the Confluence Point, where the Missouri and Mississippi rivers merge. In this image, the rivers are flowing right to left.Center left is the (whitish) concrete observation deck of Columbia Bottom conservation area. The point (in Jones Confluence Point State Park), and Columbia Bottom conservation area(across from the point) were closed temporarily due to flooding in June, 2013.The Confluence viewing tower (in Hartford,Ill.), is just down the road from the Lewis and Clark River du Boise/Wood River camp site and visitor center.

I had wanted to go down to the Confluence Point (meeting of the Mississippi & Missouri Rivers) but the road had washed out in the last flood. I had to settle for an area near the lock & dam on the Mississippi.

My picture taken on 9/1/14 wouldn't be possible today. As the next picture demonstrates, Confluence Point is usually about 100 feet further out past these two interpretive signs. The Missouri and the Mississippi were high, and covered the point area beyond the end of the trail leading there. The couple in the photo taken 9/1/14 would be underwater today. Heavy regional rains have raised the water level substantially, but haven't caused flooding in the Jones Confluence Point Park proper,as of about 5pm 9/13/14.
Photographed while completing the Zeroes are Wild puzzle cache. My first ever visit to a confluence point.
