Since the Arab revolutions of 2011, unarmed resistance has become a major force in global politics, from Tunis to Tahrir Square and on to Ferguson, Missouri. Nonviolent movements have historically outperformed their violent counterparts, but they don’t always succeed. The U.S. Institute of Peace hosted a panel of experts on Jan. 25 in this field of study, and an Emmy-award winning news producer who examined the challenges of building and sustaining nonviolent movements, and discuss lessons for scholars, activists, policymakers and practitioners.

Description: This concert was sponsored by Pamoja Radio and a variety other community based organizations in Kibera. All the performers were from the slum and the theme of the concert was peace and reconciliation. We invited the DSP students as well as members of their community to attend with us. They took pictures, video, and audio of the event.

HD organized a workshop entitled "Inclusion and negotiation process – The gender approach of negotiation in Mali", which was held in Dakar, Senegal from the 25th to 27th June 2013.

 

The objective of the workshop was to enable and support Malian women to contribute to the reflection on the post-conflict reconstruction phase, as well as to ensure their active participation based on the experiences of other women from the region.

rison staff almost prevented the Peace Boat exchange from happening, but Mr and Ms Thomas demonstrated their conflict resolution skills and negotiated with the administration to allow the morning’s activities to go ahead.

Award-winning photojournalist, Karim Ben Khelifa, is widely known for his coverage of the Middle East conflicts, especially the Iraq and Afghan wars, where he covered the insurgent sides. While a Fellow at the Open Documentary Lab at MIT, Ben Khelifa designed and prototyped his latest project The Enemy. This immersive installation uses VR to bring the audience into conversations between enemies within longstanding global conflicts. During his residency, he collaborated with Fox Harrell of the Imagination, Computation and Expression (ICE) Laboratory, to integrate concepts from cognitive science and Artificial Intelligence-based interaction models into the project to engender empathy.
