Kiwicon 9 - the 9th edition of the New Zealand Hacker conference - took place in Wellington on 10 and 11 December 2015. It was a great conference with substance in content and entertainment.
On Friday night, the conference bussed us to various restaurants in Harrisburg. I went with a group of about 25 to Char's, a lovely restaurant in an old mansion by the Susquehanna River. The owner Char even gave us a personal welcome. Here I am in the gorgeous library room. Although I am wearing the same dress from earlier in the day, I added a shrug, changed out my pinstripe tights for blue ones, and changed my necklace. I also swapped out my killer black boots with a three inch heel for more practical, but still feminine, flat black boots. The other boots were cuter, but no one looks cute after slipping on the ice in heels and ending up on her fanny!
Here I am in my black and blue... I mean gold and white dress before lunch on Saturday. This is my very first time wearing a dress with bare legs. Unfortunately, you can't make out my pretty pink toes in the picture. This picture was taken on Saturday right before lunch.

Finally, I was ready to hit the conference. It was nearly lunch time by this point. This year, it seemed like I spent as much time getting ready as I did having fun. Being a girl is hard.

At least five people (the Governor General, Prime Minister, and three other ministers) were required to form the War Cabinet, although it was planned to be made up of 12 people. In an emergency these folks would have served as the legal government of Canada and would have met several times a day in this room to receive briefings from outside the bunker. With this information they could coordinate government activities and direct war efforts.

The Joint Security Area (JSA) is the only portion of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) where North and South Korean forces stand face-to-face. It is often called the Truce Village of Panmunjom (the Truce Village; or simply, Panmunjom) in the media and various military accounts.
The JSA is used by the two Koreas for diplomatic engagements and, until March 1991, was also the site of military negotiations between North Korea and the United Nations Command (UNC). In 2018, North and South Korean officials ordered the JSA to be cleared of all landmines, weapons, guard posts, and personnel. This withdrawal was complete on October 25, 2018 and the JSA now just contains 35 unarmed security guards. The area will also no longer function in its current state and it was agreed that it will now just serve as a tourist attraction. On November 6, 2018, it was announced that the UNC would transfer primary guard duties of the now demilitarized Joint Security Area to both North and South Korea.

Conference must be picked in October, but can keep for quite a while.
With a shape like a pixie hat and characteristic brown coloring from bottom to top, it is relatively easy to recognize, and Conference is also quite popular in the supermarkets.
Use: It is sweet and juicy and works well as an edible pear or in desserts.
The Iowa Alliance Conference was launched this school year, a new athletic league of 11 large high schools around the state. The conference held its first track and field championship and I went to Ames to take some shots of the girls' teams in action.
