Eberbach Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery near Eltville am Rhein in the Rheingau, Germany. On account of its impressive Romanesque and early Gothic buildings it is considered one of the most significant architectural heritage sites in Hesse, Germany. In the winter of 1985/86 the interior scenes of The Name of the Rose were filmed here.

Eberbach was founded in 1136 by Bernard of Clairvaux as the first Cistercian monastery on the east bank of the Rhine, on the site of a previous monastic foundation of Adalbert of Mainz, which had been occupied at first by Augustinian canons and then by Benedictine monks, which had however failed to establish itself.

Eberbach soon became one of the largest and most active monasteries of Germany. Eberbach Abbey was also very successful economically, principally as a result of profits from the cultivation of vineyards and the production of wine.

The abbey suffered severe damage during the Thirty Years' War, beginning with the attack of the Swedish army in 1631. Many valuable items from the church and the library were looted, and the monks were forced to flee, of whom only 20 returned in 1635 to begin a laborious reconstruction.

The 18th century however was a period of great economic success: surviving accounts show that the abbey profits were regularly invested on the Frankfurt money market.

The final decline set in with the French Revolution. The abbey was dissolved on 18 September 1803.

Today, Eberbach is a winery and special event center.

Opened a President's Choice Condensed Milk to find it weirdly brown. I thought I had bought it last week so looked up the receipt in recycling. The receipt from from Sobeys, so check my cupboard and found the Compliments Sweetened Condensed Milk. Checked the expiry date on the PC one and found it was 2008. No wonder it was brown. I did taste test it before I realized it was well past it's best before date. Hope I don't get sick.

R4378. A Class 25 Condensing 4-8-4 at De Aar Motive Power Depot in the Northern Cape.

The main line from Cape Town to Kimberley and Johannesburg crosses the semi-arid Karoo Desert where the lack of decent watering facilities was a major problem in the days of steam. The South African Railways sought to overcome these difficulties in the 1950s by the introduction of the class 25 4-8-4 condensing locomotives. These had enormous tenders into which the exhaust steam was returned; they had grills on the sides which aided the process whereby the steam was condensed back into water for re-use in the boiler.

The class 25 condenser locomotives had a fan in the smokebox to create the draught and they made a curious whining noise instead of the expected 'chuff-chuffs'.

De Aar is an important railway junction and, in steam days, trains would stop here to take on a fresh engine.

This is the final model of the Condensed Energy Rifle. When it finished development, it flooded the Eurasian Republic Military. Progressive Arms perfected the CER so that it has a self-replenishing generator. The only issue with this early generator is that it has a slight tendency to overheat, however, that only occurs on unending fire for minutes at a time. They continue to work on the Condensed Energy Generator so that it can be used in more practical shapes and sizes. (see the other guns I've made). Additionally, this is the first time the 3-piece scope is used on a mass production scale.
