The Con Edison Gas storage tank was long a spotting feature for photos taken at LGA. The hill in the foreground is Rikers Island where in 1957 a Northeast Airlines DC-6A crashed after take off from LGA. It is also home to the NYC Dept. of Corrections Jail.
This is the Haven Plaza building.
As of TODAY ( Friday Nov. 9,2012),..
they STILL have NO heat , hot water,..or elevator service !!
Some seniors and disabled are stranded on the upper floors I
I had a front row seat !!
..this was taken from from my apartment window at the courner of 12 St & Ave C.
(the Con Edison 14 St Power Station is one block to the left of this building.)
This was taken a few minutes before the three super bright FLASHs
turned night into day !!.
..and then all of the power went off !.
..plunging us into blackness,
,,, and no more photographing.
The street lamps and the lights in the apartments
in the Projects across the avenue,
are still glowing brightly
,..just before the total blackout.
I wish they'd turned the power off SOONER !!

The paint didn't arrive until 4pm, and they forgot the primer so day 1 ended up looking like every other day. This photo is from May or June, which explains the absence of Con Ed, and the rain if you look closely.

Jacob Riis Houses (NYCHA) - named after the author of "How the Other Half Lives" which revealed, through words and photos, the horrible living conditions in Lower East Side tenements at the turn of the century. Behind are smokestacks at the Consolidated Edison plant (Con Ed).

Good Job by the Rye Fire Department, Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department, Village of Mamaroneck Fire Deparment, Rye Polcice Department, Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook- EMS, Westchetser County Emergency Services and Con ed. The fire could not have been contained with out the volunteers!
On March 1st, 2011 at approx 1:30pm, the Port Chester Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire. Unites arived on scene to find a 3-story wooden frame structure engulfed in flames. The fire grew to 4 alarms. Many other departments helped contain the fire. Altogether, over 100 firefighters, mostly volunteer, fought the fire for hours.

Dopo la chiusura del loro tour Fallen Empires terminato nel 2012, i membri della band – il polistrumentista Johnny McDaid, il chitarrista Nathan Connolly, il bassista Paul Wilson e il batterista Jonny Quinn – hanno deciso di prendersi una pausa per concentrarsi maggiormente sui loro progetti solisti. Gary Lightbody ha continuato il suo progetto artistico dal nome Tired Pony assieme ai membri di Belle e Sebastian, R.E.M., Reindeer Section e Fresh Young Fellows, trasferendosi a Los Angeles per scrivere colonne sonore (si ricorda il brano “This Is How You Walk On” per il film Gifted – Il dono del talento, uscito nel 2017). Inoltre, Gary Lightbody ha co-scritto brani con Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Biffy Clyro e One Direction. This is the north side of Peck Slip, between Front and South Streets. 257 Front Street and 43 Peck Slip are part of a Con Ed substation designed by Edward L. Barnes, built in 1974. The Peck Slip side of 257 is decorated with a famous trompe-l'œil mural by Richard Haas depicting a Federal Style store and an arcade opened to the Brooklyn Bridge. 45 Peck ("Jasper Ward House") was part of a row of buildings erected in 1806-7 for Jasper Ward, a merchant.
