If you are like me, you have a laptop that is not too big. Mine has only a 13inch screen. So i purchased a cord that allows me to put my computer screen on the TV.

So, once more into the breech with the dumpster computer. The QF9700 USB Ethernet doodad came in today's mail and I had to go hunt down the drivers online because a disk was not provided. Google Translate was helpful in locating the QF9700 Windows drivers on a Chinese website, and regular Google found the Linux drivers and an improvement somebody wrote because the manufacturer-provided ones didn't work right. I heart the Internet, and now I have a machine I can work with. Except in Linux. (Or until I figured out how to do this.)

A commenter on a previous picture mentioned the joy of ndiswrapper and I have to agree, if it works it works great and if it doesn't then Houston we have a problem. I tried the Windows drivers for both this Ethernet and my previously-mentioned WiFi dongle and neither of them wanted to play along -- the installation would look smooth but then when the item was plugged in the screen would go blank. I haven't tried compiling the provided drivers and the make-it-work patch yet because I don't know how to compile stuff (and I'm always amused by Linux sites that blithely say "oh, you just do this and do this..." without explaining HOW you do those things), paired with the OpenSuSE support community's belief that one should never have to compile anything, yet don't offer a working version. Or one that doesn't require you to be online at the time, which is the point here, I can't get online until I get one of these devices to work! There's gotta be another cheat.

Let's try this again: Went the ndiswrapper route again, this time having it do the modcheck through that command rather than YaST (which inevitably goes comatose), and here's where we are: Network Configuration has it added as an ethernet device but it doesn't snag a MAC address or try to use it. Network Monitor has it listed as a wireless LAN device not ethernet, and also isn't using it. Whatever that network configuration statement is lists it at a WLAN *with* a MAC address. Network Manager doesn't do anything, isn't visible, and there is no plasmoid to add it (and that includes under Add Software). But at least the computer doesn't puke now when it's inserted, even if it doesn't know for certain if it's supposed to be eth1, wlan1, or a wayward frenchfry that got stuck in the USB jack.

Meta-photography without using a tripod is an inexact endeavor.

This is my second laptop, a Dell Inspiron 6400, purchased in June of 2007. It's a great improvement over my previous laptop, and I'm very happy with it.

Shot this on my little camera today - it's actually not too hard to shoot these!
