Apple Computer has had a long history of technological inovation in computer hardware and software. They are now an icon in the mobile phone marketplace and are setting the standard for others to follow with the iPhone. Back in 1997 the company was a niche player in the computer marketplace and the stock was selling in the low $20's. The stock is now trading between $500-600 per share and Apple Computer now has the highest marketcap of all publicly traded companies. The technology industry can be fickle and the icons of the past have gone by the wayside, who knows if Apple will be able to maintain this status in the future.
This photo is part of the first week's theme of Icon for the 2013 Photo Challenge. Each week the Photo challenge website posts a theme for the week and they will recap some of their favorite images. I personally don't think this image is very strong, but when the word icon came to mind, I immediately thought of Apple Computer and the stock certificate I have framed.

Just in case: a rubber protector is fit over the keyboard.
Lesson learned.

A thrilling play.
Beer is spilled on keyboard.
Keys stick and cease functioning, but, fortunately, computer's innards and motherboard remain un-drunk.
▶ A friend recommended her IT 'guy.' For the cost of the replacement keyboard (and some cider), he replaced the keyboard, repairing the laptop in 15 minutes.

I've been collecting old computer equitment as a "project" for a while, but I never did anything with it. I finally to terms with the fact that I probably never would and decided I could sacrifice the space, so I threw it all out today. Some of it works, but not well.
I needed to program a wi-fi router so I can use my iPad 2 in my hotel room. I failed to check if the hotel had wifi and plan accordingly.

Colossus was the world's first electronic, digital, fixed-program, single-purpose computer with variable coefficients. This is a rebuild of the original at Bletchely Park. It was designed to break the Lorenz cipher used by the Germans in WW2. The Lorenz coding machines used 12 rotor wheels considerably more than that used in the famous Enigma coding machines

One of the biggest problems in supercomputers of the day was heat removal. Using ECL (Emitter Coupled Logic) for speed meant more power and thus heat than the slower TTL (Transistor Transistor Logic)
So the computer evolved to a series of pipes through which ran either chilled water, or freon, or liquid nitrogen (depending on the era) and on these pipes were mounted the heat sinks on which were mounted the electronics.
This machine in this image is easily identifiable as a CRAY based on the distinctive color scheme.
