After our four year long struggle against the Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations, today we stand at ajuncture whenwe are being forced tolace the question as to wtiether we are willing to surrender everything that we sought to fight forlor whether we would resolve to defend our JNUSUconstitution. It is an unfortunate reality, but nonetheless a reality that wemust face as our decision today would have far reaching implications on the very fabric of the democratic, socially sensitive culture.

of protest, dissent and struggle that JNU has stood for. The choice is for us to make. Whether to strivefor an union that would have.

today are in no way different from the ones that we faced in 2008 when Lyngdoh came knocking at our doors. On that date we hadchosen the pathof struggle and rejected LCR in toto. And it was a result of our uncompromising and consistent struggles that in.

2009 thevery constitutional validity of LCR was challenged by the Supreme Court with the case being referred to the constitutionbench. But today after these four years, it is the betrayals and compromises of the revisionist forces lfke AISA-SFI and their.

opportunist alliance with the casteist reactionary right wing that has forced us to face the same questions yet again. The need ofthe hour is to once again forge a resounding solidarity not just rejecting Lyngdoh but also its cronies in campus ...

These cronies of Lyngdoh being led by AISA & SFI had nothing to offer in this four year long struggle except their.

multifarious tactics of compromise, negotiations and most importantly lies.2009, when the Supreme Court questioned the.

constitutional validity of LCR, was the right time for JNU to hold JNUSU elections without LCR.At that crucial time 1t wasAISA thatopened the path of compromise, lying to the students about administrative crackdown and suggested anon-viable alternative of awrit petition. It took hardly asemester for SFI to follow AI SA and propose negotiations with the amicus curie.AISA and SFI l<nownfor their shadow boxing, entered into one-on 'maximum possible relaxations' and 'bench marks'-none of which exist today. DS Urightly pointed out that with the doors of 'negotiation' being opened once, they would eventually shed their pretence and surrenderto Lyngdoh. Today after three years, we sta.nd vindic.ate~. And hence, instead o havmg an open de ate withDSU, they have only resorted to confusing students on afalse binary of election ana no election'. In the last UGBM they lied to thestudents about relaxations and this time the lie is about holding JNUSU elections in this semester and misrepresenting facts.

regarding LCR. DSU challenges these revisionists to come out openly with their position. After all this compromise AI SAshamelessly asks DSUwhy it attacks 'left(?!}' forces like AISA instead of YFE. The cam us knows what is DSU .

March 29, 2023. Lynn, MA.

Lynn tenants rally to fight a huge rent increase and eviction.

Tenants at 127 Washington St in Lynn are fighting enormous rent increases. In a case that organizers say exemplifies the need for rent control laws, out-of-town landlord Daniel Jacobson bought the building last year and began pushing for drastic rent hikes, in many cases $500 per month or more.

Residents joined together in a tenant union and tried to negotiate. An initial discussion did not lead to an agreement, so the tenants sent a compromise offer that included several gradual rent increases. Mr. Jacobson chose to file court eviction cases, but has not responded to the tenant’s offer.

“What this landlord is trying to do, raising rent by 40% of 50% or more on longtime tenants, should be illegal,” said Celly De La Cruz, an organizer with Lynn United for Change. “This situation is a good example of why we need rent control. But for now, we have to depend on tenants standing up against outrageous rent increases and the community supporting them.”

April 12, 2023. Lawrence, MA.

Activists, families and community members stood out at 60-62 Union Street in support of the Lawrence LatinX Union Street Tenants Association. Three Households will face their first no-fault eviction mediation after the entire tenants association resisted the rent increase from their new landlord. Six households received rent increases of 50%+ and tenants immediately formed a Tenant Association with the support of City Life Vida Urbana. A 50% rent increase will push these families out of their homes. The Union St. Tenants Association already had a vigil outside their homes after sending a couple of letters to the owner seeking negotiations and offering a compromise. The landlord so far has refused to negotiate. Families hope with public pressure theyâll be able to advocate for multi-year contracts with 2% rent increase caps. City Life has successfully negotiated collective bargaining agreements all over the metropolitan area. These are typically multi-year agreements that cap rent increases over a 5-year period. They provide stability for both residents and owners. They are also urging Massachusetts legislators to lift the ban on rent control to stabilize rents with the Act Enabling Cities and Towns to Stabilize Rents and Protect Tenants (2103 / SD1299).

I used every scrap of my black fabric to make the new shell - then I realized I was missing the lining up around the top. VERY luckily, all the pieces I needed were on the inside in the same area, and even luckier, I had a great compromise fabric that I bought at the same time as the lining.
