Always on the move, this is a fresh break. I love the deep blue of super compressed glacial ice. In a couple of days this amazing color will fade and become pale like the surrounding ice. Right place, right time. I felt fortunate to have seen it.

Foam from a home-made Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS). For details on how it works, see my website; www.superpants.net/foam.html
This type of system is used in fire fighting as well as special effects to create snow or for messy game shows like What Now.

Another common form of mine locomotive was driven by compressed air. These had a large air reservoir which could be refilled from a stationary source.

Nikon D810 Fine Art Photos John Muir Country-- Kings Canyon & Sequoia! Dr. Elliot McGucken Fine Art Photography during a Breaking Thunderstorm with Majestic and Interesting Skies!
Enjoyed photographing the John Muir Country-- Kings Canyon & Sequoia in California furing a breaking storm! Also shot it all with the Sony A7r as well as the Nikon D810 and the wonderful Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens as well as the new Tamron AFA012N700 15-30 mm f/2.8-Di VC Wide-Angle Lens for Nikon F (FX) Cameras and the Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S Nikkor Zoom Lens !
I hope that you enjoy browsing through my photos and comparing and contrasting the Nikon D810, sony A7r, and the various lenses!
Long story short, you can't go wrong!
The Sony A7r and the Nikon D810 have the same sensor! While the D810 saves the RAW in 14bit lossless compressed (or uncompressed0, the A7r performs a bit of lossy compression, which I have never noticed, but which some say they have!
At any rate, I am super excited for the Nikon's next camera as well as for the recently announced Sony A7rII Mirrorless Digital Camera! Some highlights include a 42 MP Full-Frame Exmor R BSI CMOS Sensor, a
BIONZ X Image Processor,
Internal UHD 4K Video & S-Log2 Gamma, and a
5-Axis SteadyShot INSIDE Stabilization system!
I'll be ordering mine for sure! And I have a feeling that Nikon will be releasing something epic soon--a 50mp+ camera with awesome dynamic range!
And important thing to remember is that even though pixel sizes keep getting smaller and smaller, the technology is advancing, so the smaller pixels are more efficient at collecting light. For instance, the Sony A7rII will be back-illuminated which allows more photons to hit the sensor. Semiconductor technology is always advancing, so the brilliant engineers are always improving the signal/noise ratio. Far higher pixel counts, as well as better dynamic ranger, are thus not only possible, but the future!
Yes I have a Ph.D. in physics! I worked on phototranistors and photodiodes as well as an artificial retina for the blind. :)

Compare these D810 shots with the photos taken with the Sony A7r and new Sony 16-35mm Vario-Tessar T FE F4 ZA OSS E-Mount Lens!
After looking through my work, what do you think about Nikon vs. Sony? Do you prefer the Nikon D810 and Nikkor / Tamron / Sigma lenses /glass, or the Sony A7r and Sony Sonnar Carl Zeiss e-mount glass/lenses? I love them both! And I am so excited about the Sony A7rII !

www.medilaw.tv - Illustrates the surgical technique for performing a transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion. This procedure is used to remove an intervertebral disc that is causing uncontrollable pain or is compressing the adjacent spinal cord or nerve roots. Bone blocks are used to replace the removed disc and maintain correct alignment. Pedicle screw instrumentation is used to ensure stability while fusion occurs. There are many different techniques to achieve the same end result, a pain-free, stable, anatomically positioned bony fusion. However, the basic procedure illustrated here is common to all posterior lumbar interbody fusions. Also shown is the patient position, skin preparation and incision, the surgical approach, the removal of the pathological intervertebral disc, the bone block insertion, the pedicle screw fusion instrumentation, x-ray position checks and finally wound closure.
A spinal fusion is done to join two vertebrae together to make one large bone. The surgeon roughens up the external surfaces of the two vertebrae to make the body's natural repair system think that one large bone has broken. The surgeon then adds bone to maintain and fill the gap. The body then joins the mass together, like a normal fracture. While the bone is healing, it is held still by screws and rods. Full fusion takes three months. Bone chips can be taken from your hip at the time of the operation, and then grafted onto your vertebra. Alternatively, bone can be harvested from other patients and stored until needed in a bone bank. Using bone from the bone bank saves you the pain of this surgery, but doesn't produce as high fusion rates as using your own bone. Artificial and natural bone substitutes are also available. New bone from the roughened vertebra migrates along the grafted bone to connect the area to be fused. Bone Morphogenetic Proteins may be used to accelerate the fusion rate.
INDICATIONS
A spinal fusion is performed when the spine is unstable, and can't maintain the functional alignment between all of its important structures, or the abnormal movements cause pain and put adjacent structures at risk of injury.
Causes of spinal instability include degenerative joint disease, spondylolysis, fractures, infections and tumors.
ALTERNATIVES
The non-surgical alternative treatments to lumbar fusion are
avoiding bending, lifting, twisting and prolonged sitting
weight loss
walking
pain-relieving medication
physical therapy
hydrotherapy.
The surgical alternatives treatments to lumbar fusion are
injections of steroid and local anesthetic around nerves or into the facet joints
lumbar disc replacement in very few cases.
The use of lumbar bracing and acupuncture is controversial.
GOALS
The damaged, painful intervertebral disc is removed and replaced with bone. This eventually fuses the two vertebral bodies together into one solid bone.
TECHNIQUE
You will be placed in a kneeling position. Your skin will be cleaned. An incision will be made in the middle of the back. The overlying muscles will be moved to the sides. Your surgeon will confirm the correct vertebrae for the procedure by using x-ray imaging. Pedicle screws and a rod will be placed above and below the levels to be fused. A bone window will be excised through a facet joint. The disc will be removed, and the intervertebral space prepared for the bone blocks. Bone graft will be added to assist fusion. Then the bone blocks are placed in the space. The remaining pedicle screws and rod are inserted and locked into position. The lateral bone graft is applied. Xrays are used to check the position of the screws, rods and cages. The muscles are replaced, and the wound is closed with sutures. law videos
