I have a confession to make:
I often catch myself admiring the beauty of a bowl of compost on its way out to the bin. In late March, I found myself with lots of fresh flowers heading out to compost, and I couldn't help but photograph them along the way. Forgive me.
Allegedly the UK's first compostable carrier bags. Not very good for carrying bottles of beer and wine though.
its a bit smelly, but its all in the name of the GREEN REVOLUTION! also, it makes our trash way cheaper. : D
We used to have a ditch where we put our compost (you can see it in the earlier photos) but now we are going to give our table scraps to the chickens! I built a little hatch in the top of the coop, so we can easily drop them in.
Made today out of old pallets.
Now that we have the bin in place, we can start clearing the overgrown grasses and in 6-12 months have fresh compost for the beds.

so sunday afternoon was nice and warm. we decided to rake some leaves and winterize the compost pile with the leaves. i grabbed the camera and took this photo because it was so cool to see all those kitchen scraps/stuff i put in there turned into soil!
i had the camera around my neck but it got in the way as i gathered leaves to put on top of the pile. so i took it off and put it on the roof of the storage building, making a mental note to not leave it there. we covered the compost pile and got it winterized and i remembered i wanted to build a little shelter for the outdoor/feral kitty, amelia. we finished the shelter just in time for nightfall.
monday comes and it is the grayest, darkest, rainy day of the year. the wind and rain are miserable. both are non-stop all day. the rain was that really fine rain, too, that soaks everything in seconds. miserable!! tuesday's only improvement is that it didn't rain. it was still frigid out.
tuesday night we get in bed at 11:30 and talk about something or other and it dawns on me that i *think* i MAY have left the camera on the roof of the storage building. brian grabs a flashlight and lo and behold: i DID.
oh noes.
brian took the batteries out and put it on one of the heating vents so the heat/airflow could dry it out. all i saw when i looked at it when he brought it in was fog in the viewfinder and the lens. not good. i assumed the worst and sadly looked online for new cameras.
last night (wednesday) when he got home brian put the batteries in and shock of shocks! IT WORKED! after two freaking days of sitting out in the rain and freezing cold, it works PERFECTLY.
it may not be the fanciest, most expensive or best camera out there but god damn: what a camera.
Sam's is sending a new composter to replace this one. I also got a $20 gift card for my inconvenience.

That's not snow - it is the recycled paper shreddings I bring home from work, after they have done their duty as chicken bedding.
