Not sure anything shows the scale of the compost donation from Christy Webber!

It was on a 2004 trip to Ucluelet on Vancouver Island that I got turned on to composting. Even here, in dry, hot Arizona, one can turn leaves, twigs, coffee grinds, fruit peels, vegetable ends, egg shells, stuff you previously just tossed into the waste stream... into beautiful black organic soil.

There is something fulfilling here, even for me, a born in the city boy.

With both bins full, it was time today to release the most "mature" one into the veggie garden. And start again!

Most of the leaves have fallen and the compost bins (and chook yard) are nearly full.

Squash seeds itself nicely in the compost bin and tries to take over the driveway. We have eaten one good squash from it so far.

Loading compost at the city dump.

Truly, this is only half of them.

A bin located at Southside Service on Main Street in Stonewall, MB. People from town who want a small amount of compost can go there and grab some. It's free, but if they want to leave a donation for Southwest District Palliative Care (a great community organization) with Pat at Southside we wouldn't turn it down. I do believe Palliative Care will even mail you a tax deductible receipt if the donation is $20 or more (but don't quote me on that one).
