I have just returned from an epic trip with fellow photographers Antony Spencer & Aaron Bennett

It was amazing to experience and explore Iceland, We had mild activity most nights and an amazing 20 minute display on Tuesday. We also had pretty decent weather for sunset and sun rise. All in all a great trip and it was amazing to finally see the northern lights!

It really is a challenge photographing the Northern lights with problems like composing a shot in the dark to focus and noise issues it can get quite stressful especially when you have had no sleep for sometime and you can no longer feel your toes or feet.

I made this image with a Canon 5d ii with my Nikon 24mm ƒ1.4 G Lens with an Adapter to make it all work.

As the lens dose not communicate with the camera you can ignore the EXIF data for this shot apart from the shutter speed and ISO.

This photo may have the appearance of being thoughtfully composed. In fact, we saw the train approaching from the over bridge, and didn't realise how quickly it was moving, so a sprint across the field was needed!

The Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center is a convention center located in Long Beach, California. Built on the former site of the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium; the venue is composed of the Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach Arena and the Long Beach Performing Arts Center.

Long Beach Arena was the first building to be completed in the complex. Capacities are as follows: 11,200 for hockey, 13,609 for basketball and either 4,550, 9,200 or 13,500 for concerts, depending on the seating arrangement.

The arena has hosted various entertainment and professional and college sporting events, most notably the volleyball events of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games.

For trade shows, the arena features 46,000 square feet (4300 m2) of space, with an additional 19,000 square feet (1800 m2) of space in the lobby and 29,000 square feet (2700 m2) in the concourse. Hanging from the arena's 77 foot (23 m) high ceiling is a center-hung scoreboard with four White Way "Mega Color" Animation Screens. There is an 11 by 15 foot SACO Smartvision LED Wall located on the south end of the arena.

The arena was the site of the first NHL game involving a 1967 expansion team, as the Los Angeles Kings and the Philadelphia Flyers, both expansion teams, played on October 14, 1967, the Kings won 4–2. The Kings played in Long Beach for the first half of their expansion season while The Forum was being completed.

In the 1970s, the arena hosted several games of the Los Angeles Sharks, of the WHA and regular appearances of the Los Angeles Thunderbirds roller derby team. The Grateful Dead played the arena on December 15th, 1972; the first of 13 concerts there through 1988.

In 1980–81 the arena was also home to the California Surf of the North American Soccer League for one season of indoor soccer.

The arena was home to the former Long Beach Ice Dogs team, which played professional ice hockey in the IHL, WCHL and ECHL. The Ice Dogs ceased operations of the team in 2007.

The Eagles performed during a benefit concert for California Senator Alan Cranston on July 31, 1980, on what has been described as "Long Night at Wrong Beach".Tempers boiled over as Glenn Frey and Don Felder spent the entire show telling each other about the beating each planned to administer backstage. "Only three more songs until I kick your ass, pal," Frey recalls Felder telling him near the end of the band's set.Felder recalls Frey making a similar threat to him during "Best of My Love"."We're out there singing ‘Best of My Love', but inside both of us are thinking, 'As soon as this is over, I'm gonna kill him,' " recalled Frey. The animosity purportedly developed as a result of Felder's response of "You're welcome – I guess" to Senator Cranston as he was thanking the band for doing the benefit for his reelection. A live recording of their song "Life in the Fast Lane" from this show was included on their live album, entitled Eagles Live. This marked their final live performance, as The Eagles, for 14 years, until April 25, 1994.

Iron Maiden performed four consecutive shows during their World Slavery Tour on March 14–17, 1985. The show on the 15th was recorded and released as a double live-album, entitled Live After Death.

The arena was also one of the sites of the 1986 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship Rounds of 64 and 32. The teams, which played at the arena, included Maryland, Pepperdine & UNLV. Maryland's Len Bias played his final collegiate game at the arena on March 14, 1986, in a loss to UNLV in the Round of 32. The arena was also the site of the Big West Conference men's basketball tournament from 1989 to 1993. It was the home court for Long Beach State's men's basketball team for several seasons in the 1970s and 1980s.

Run–D.M.C. performed during their Raising Hell Tour on August 17, 1986, with Whodini, LL Cool J, The Beastie Boys and The Timex Social Club as their opening act. The show made news worldwide when gang fights broke out between the Long Beach-based Insane Crips and the Los Angeles based Rollin 60's Crips within the audience, with 42 reported injuries during the incident.

From 2009 to 2016, the FIRST Robotics Competition Los Angeles Regional was held at the Long Beach Arena.

On July 1 and 2, 2017, the arena hosted New Japan Pro-Wrestling's G1 Special in USA shows, which marked the company's first independently promoted shows in the United States.

The arena will host handball during the 2028 Summer Olympics.

My only real composing so far.

Mein bisher einziges wirkliches Composing.

Zusammengestellt aus 10 Einzelteilen

Usually I like to take my time to compose a scene. You see I've listened carefully to the advice of my favourite landscape photographer on YouTube (Nigel Danson - he's a man who understands how to do this stuff) and absorb a location before I open the camera bag. I even do this in places I know well - places such as the space between Cape Cornwall and Botallack Mine here at the Edge of Eternity where the Atlantic Ocean stretches west for 2200 odd miles before arriving in Newfoundland. It takes a while to leave the journey to a location behind and settle in the surroundings. Often I will sit and watch for an hour or more, hoping to sight that pod of dolphins that so rarely appears, straining my eyes over the horizon for the distant Scilly Isles, and simply gazing at the sea below me. It's a place that brings the senses alive, whatever the time and whatever the weather. Eventually I'll fix on an idea and set the camera on the tripod, take a test shot and then wait for the light.

And so it was on this Saturday afternoon at the end of June. The lockdown restrictions in the UK had eased a little, and we were able to get out and about to the places we love so much. The summer holiday to Andalusia had been postponed because neither of us really fancied the idea of wearing a mask everywhere in 40 degree heat, but with places like this in our own back yard it didn't seem to matter. In fact despite what's going on around all of us this year, it's been a particularly enjoyable summer. It's only really dawned on me this year how lucky I am to be able to leave my home and stand here, at the edge of the British Isles in under an hour.

We sat at the edge of the granite outcrop high above the sea - they're known as castles here, which used to confuse me but I believe it's in reference to the hard igneous rock that makes the backbone of our county. We were facing north, directly away from the scene in the picture. You might wonder why on earth we'd be looking in any direction other than this, but the view towards the sunlit old engine houses of Botallack Mine, perched perilously over the sea is something in itself. The deed was done; I'd settled upon a composition and now it was a matter of timing and light. I sat and waited. It's a place where you can lose your sense of time and drift away on a tide of daydreams, but my reverie was interrupted by the voice of Ali, who was looking in the opposite direction. "Behind you!" she called across the stiff breeze, pointing enthusiastically towards the Cape Cornwall side of our vista. From her obvious excitement I was expecting to look round and see a pantomime villain advancing towards me.

And I turned to see this. A leaden sky with yellow sunlight filtering eastwards from over the sea. Of course light like this never lasts more than a minute or two and an almighty flurry of activity ensued very quickly as I hastened to a new position, the opening of the camera bag flapping about furiously in the wind. These are tricky places for the unwary and you have to take care unless you want a terminal bath before being dashed upon the rocks, and framing the shot wasn't as unhurried as I'd have liked it to have been. But in less than three minutes the ominous black and grey had been replaced by fluffy white on blue and it was as if this moment had never happened. The weather in this country, especially along its wild western edges is so delightfully capricious. It makes planning a family barbecue an ever risky affair, but for us photographers it's an absolute dream.

It's Saturday - the weather is forecast is looking decidedly fickle. I think I know what I'm going to do today.

As if the morning...

was written by me

yet composed by you

howsoever the night passed

this laureate sigh cannot subdue

the lazy light that still blinds

so much of what the mind's eye -

wants to 'heartwholly' say

from manacle silhouette shade,

to golden memories that stray

the plausibly sung tunes echo

through insomnia-hued,

breakbeaten and downtempoed

telepathic mirror images

where numbness was foreshadowed

communication is often silent

emotionally wordless

vocally unsung

unstaged and unrehersed -

in silence it's power far-flung

desensitising the weekend away

absence makes the heart grow fonder?

we may forever wonder,

taking our Soul into custody

this morning becomes clearer.

BAP Unión is a training ship of the Peruvian Navy built in 2012–2015 by Shipyard Marine Industrial Services of Peru, known as SIMA. It is a four-masted, steel-hulled, class "A" barque, composed of 38 steel modules. It has a total length (including bowsprit) of 115.50 m (378 ft 11 in); a beam of 13.50 m (44 ft 3 in); a draft of 6.50 m (21 ft 4 in); an air draft of 53.50 m (175 ft 6 in); a displacement of 3,200 tonnes; a speed of 12 knots (22 km/h) and a crew of 250 officers and trainees. The ship's name honors a Peruvian corvette that took part in the first stage of the 1879–1883 War of the Pacific as part of a naval squadron under the command of Miguel Grau, a hero of the Peruvian Navy.

Like other similar ships, Unión has been conceived not only for training purposes, but also to be a sailing ambassador for its home country. Due to its features and dimensions, it has been considered (as of the date it was commissioned) the largest sailing vessel in Latin America.

The ship’s striking bronze figurehead was crafted by Peruvian sculptor Pilar Martínez Woodman and is a tribute to the rich Inca culture. It features the Sapa Inca Tupac Yupanqui, a symbol of leadership and wisdom, with his arm raised toward the sun god Inti. Both are surrounded by symbols such as the twelve-angled stone and puma heads, representing the vast Inca Empire and Peru's deep-rooted history.

If one passes the garden at the rear of the Juhamnu Pavilion and walks down along the slope of the hill leading into the stairway, the person can find a square pond on the opposite side and a pavilion on the north bank of the pond. This is the Aeryeonjeong, which is composed of only 1 kan. Looking out of the windows of the pavilion, one can enjoy a wonderful view. It looks like just a framed picture, owing to the decorations attached to the upper part of the pillars. Of course, the mood of the picture depends on the season. In particular, the stone structure, through which water comes into the pond, is opposite excellent in beauty and technique of design.

Park Güell is a privatized park system composed of gardens and architectural elements located on Carmel Hill, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Carmel Hill belongs to the mountain range of Collserola – the Parc del Carmel is located on the northern face. Park Güell is located in La Salut, a neighbourhood in the Gràcia district of Barcelona. With urbanization in mind, Eusebi Güell assigned the design of the park to Antoni Gaudí, a renowned architect and the face of Catalan modernism.

The park was built from 1900 to 1914 and was officially opened as a public park in 1926. In 1984, UNESCO declared the park a World Heritage Site under "Works of Antoni Gaudí".

Stories, like people and butterflies and songbirds' eggs and human hearts and dreams, are also fragile things, made up of nothing stronger or more lasting than twenty-six letters and a handful of punctuation marks. Or they are words on the air, composed of sounds and ideas-abstract, invisible, gone once they've been spoken-and what could be more frail than that? But some stories, small, simple ones about setting out on adventures or people doing wonders, tales of miracles and monsters, have outlasted all the people who told them, and some of them have outlasted the lands in which they were created.” - Neil Gaiman

The orangery consists of a central domed rotunda and two glazed side aisles with, at the ends, two columned buildings. The plan of the monumental structure corresponds to that frequently used in the 19th century.

The sculpted decoration of the Botanical Garden was commissioned and created at the end of the 19th century. It was decided to equip the park with a series of sculptures with the aim of both beautifying it and stimulating public art. The project is entrusted to two recognized sculptors, Constantin Meunier and Charles Van der Stappen, who are responsible for the general design and sketches and entrust its creation to their collaborators. The set includes 52 sculptures, executed between 1894 and 1898, including various fountains, sculpted groups and figures evoking time, the seasons, plants and animals, as well as electric lights.

I composed this between-the-seasons canyon photograph while hiking near Alberta's Marble Canyon. I recognized that there was "a lot going on" in this image, but I found each element beautiful in its own way, and like good friends, the various elements complimented one another. I hope you enjoy.

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (United States Army), Union Navy (U.S. Navy), and the Marines who served in the American Civil War. It was founded in 1866 in Decatur, Illinois, and grew to include hundreds of "posts" (local community units) across the North and West. It was dissolved in 1956 at the death of its last member.

According to Stuart McConnell:

The Grand Army of the Republic, the largest of all Union Army veterans' organizations, was the most powerful single-issue political lobby of the late nineteenth century, securing massive pensions for veterans and helping to elect five postwar presidents from its own membership. To its members, it was also a secret fraternal order, a source of local charity, a provider of entertainment in small municipalities, and a patriotic organization.

Linking men through their experience of the war, the G.A.R. became among the first organized advocacy groups in American politics, supporting voting rights for black veterans, promoting patriotic education, helping to make Memorial Day a national holiday, lobbying Congress to establish regular veterans' pensions, and supporting Republican political candidates. Its peak membership, at 410,000, was in 1890, a high point of various Civil War commemorative and monument dedication ceremonies.

The Running Man Nebula or NGC 1977 is a reflection nebula that is found in the Orion constellation ... almost 1500 lightyears away. It is called the Running Man because the shape looks exactly like that ... ie a man running. It is to the left in this photo ... a purple shape on a field of blue. But in the night sky the Running Man is actually above Orion, but here in this photo I rotated it so that you could see it better.

The Orion Nebula (Messier 42 or NGC 1976) on the right here in this photo is a diffuse nebula just south of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion. It is a bright nebulae and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky ... but only as a faint fuzzy smudge unless you have the help of a telescope.
