After being shortlisted for the YPG Art Awards, I was encouraged to enter another competition. This one involves designing a Cabin bag for Air New Zealand.

The result is above.

Just like the last time, I need public support to advance my design in the competition. Here's the link / voting instructions:

1. Go to www.designabag.co.nz

2. Click the register link and fill in all the fields. They need a phone number because when you vote, your name goes in the draw to win a bag. I'm hoping the system does not object to "overseas" numbers!!

3. Once you have registered, click on this link: www.designabag.co.nz/entry/103/Home_Coming

4. You will see a row of stars which is partially coloured in, click on the fifth star so that all the stars are orange

5. Click the submit button

Thanks in advance

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

This site-specific performance in the museum's rotunda invited guests to listen to experimental 1950s music by composers such as Earle Brown, John Cage, Giacinto Scelsi, and Karlheinz Stockhausen while viewing works by Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Jackson Pollock, Antoni Tàpies, and more in Art of Another Kind.

To watch a video about the performance with musical director Christopher McIntyre and composer R. Luke DuBois, visit http://www.guggenheim.org/patterns

Just when I composed and pressed my camera's button to capture this image of Haystack Rock, this young girl accidently walked into the frame. I reassured her that it was okay ...she said she was sorry, smiled, and then ran off. Her mother was close by..she smiled also.

In the middle of composing some music, decided to do it in style

This is a picture I have to give credit for. I was looking through the "24 Hours of Flickr" photo pool when I came across this lovely little composition of matchsticks by Nadiobolis. For some reason (possibly my recent poem about time ...) it made me think of clocks, and given what time it happened to be, this is the image that came out.

It felt a little odd to compose shots in a city such as Hanoi. It's chaotic to say the least, and my favourites were taken very quickly without much thought for composition, or shot-from-the-hip, such as the one above.

It felt more 'Hanoi' to shoot this way - at least in the experiences I had in the city.

This was just another street, with just another moto going past, yet it captures a feeling of many streets. It was, however, one of the isolated times when only a single moto went past ;)

Here it is large on black

Created in Illustrator after following a tutorial to create the ribbon design. I really struggled with the colouring and composition of this one and am not sure that it was worth the effort. Some days are like that.

Ulsanbawi Rock

Ulsanbawi is composed of six granite peaks, each bearing a width of 4km. You can see the spectacular scenery of Seorak Mountain, the East Sea, Dalma Peak, and Haksapyeong Reservoir from the top. There are three varying theories as to what the name Ulsanbawi implies: that it looks like a fence, that its name was copied from Ulsan of Gyeongsangnam-do, and that the Korean term of “crying mountain” was translated into Chinese characters. Because of the way the whole mountain reverberates the sound of thunder in rain, it is also referred to as Cheonhusan.

The arduous 4km hike up that takes roughly two hours to reach the peak is worth it. Views from the top are simply breathtaking.

An interesting tourist folder that is composed of an generic set of illustrated outer pages with, in this case, a central section in Italian, giving details of rail travel in Britain. Issued by the Eastern Region of British Railways, and this copy from the Rome offices of "Ferrovie Britanniche", is illustrated by artist Frederick Donald Blake R.I.

Blake (1908 - 1977) was a noted Scottish artist who was frequently commissioned by British Railways for poster and publicity work. The illustrations and sketches show various 'British" scenes in London and across the country.

These pages in Italian give detail of various services such as express services from London, Irish ferry services, London Transport's "Go as you please" tourist tickets as well as English regions as well as travel to Scotland.

Pandan Reservoir - Singapore

This is a panorama composed from 6 landscape oriented photos. Photoshop Elements 9 was used to contruct the panorama. The photos were taken from the Footscray Community Arts Center on the banks of the Maribyrnong River looking east towards the city at around 8.20pm on the 4th October 2011. The Maribyrnong River is in the foreground with the Melbourne city skyline in the distance. The middle of the photo shows some of the container storage areas associated with the Port of Melbourne.

Photos were taken very close to where the daytime photo panorama was taken, however the perspective is a little different due to the use of the landscape format to take the individual photos. The

final image has been sharpened and the file size reduced to 25% of the original before uploading.

Easy and straight..

A group composed of educators, business partners and elected officials toured Forest Lake Elementary Technology Magnet School on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Visitors were able to step into numerous classes and observe the variety of learning opportunities occurring on an average day in the school. Student Ambassadors met visitors at the entrance of each classroom and explained what was going on. Students were: reading excerpts on Discovery Education, composing Google Drive slides, solving math problems on their Chromebooks, practicing multiplication with decimals and much more.
