Cruquius NL - La Vista housing complex, consisting of luxury apartments of 250 m2, has been designed by Mario Botta and was finished in 2008. It features underground parking and is located next to the historical pumping station Cruquius, industrial heritage of a special class from the 18th century.

La Vista consists of two mirror-image castle-towers of seven floors. They bear the names Palatino and Aventino, two of the seven hills on which ancient Rome was built, a reference to the Italianate design. Each floor has two very spacious apartments, all with private entrance area, accessible by elevator and stairs. Privacy, space and luxury make it very complete apartment villas in shape. From your apartment in this exclusive residential resort you can enjoy day in, day out of a fascinating, richly varied panorama: the ring canal around, frontally on the river Spaarne, a waterway with a rich history and a busy, lively traffic. On the horizon stands out the historic skyline of Haarlem, with the characteristic Saint Bavo Cathedral.

This 308 unit complex is on what was once the Pacific Heights Shopping Center- a shopping center housing Fox Theater (single screen), Thrifty, a hardware store, a 5 and dime and a Shell Station. The struggling shopping center was scrapped in favor of the apartment complex. But the complex was built poorly and developed mold. The complex was closed a handful of years ago and a plan to build a larger (500+ unit) complex. Much debate surrounded the plans which did not include enough parking spaces to even fit city standards and after several years, any plans to demolish and rebuild seem to have stalled.

The complex sits completely vacant and in total disrepair. Windows are broken, front doors are open and in the back of the complex, the balconies are falling off. There appear to be squatters, or there were at one time.

The architectural ethnographic complex Etura is situated at the distance of 8 km south of the town of Gabrovo in the immediate proximity of the Etara quarter and past the Sivek River (at the distance of 3 km from the road-fork to Shipka). The complex disposes an area of 60 decares an is unique for south-eastern Europe.

It is an open-air museum where is reproduced the authentic life of a typical craftsmanship settlement from the period of Bulgarian Revival. The way Bulgarian people lived 150 years ago can be perceived and felt here. One can hear the rattle of wheels and mills moved by water, the whiz of the mills for woollen cloths and for flour. Metal ornaments, pottery articles, copper utensils, braids, hot buns and whatever else come out from the skillful hands of the masters there.

The little cobblestone streets, the stone cheshmi (drinking-fountains), the gas lanterns, Sakov`s house, the house with the tavern, the clock tower and a lot of other authentic details complete the whole picture.

There is a regular bus line running from town of Gabrovo to Etara.

This mare and foal were gathered Jan. 4, 2013 and were in temporary holding until Jan. 13. BLM personnel and contractor crew had taken a special interest in this young foal and nicknamed him Cheddar because of his color. The pair were being prepared for loading for transport to Palomino Valley Adoption Center when the mare slipped and fell in the alleyway and hit her head on a gate, resulting in a broken neck. Recent heavy snowfall and the lack of activity in the alleyways contributed to icy conditions while loading. Transport to PVC in Semi-tractor trailers has not been safe until Jan. 13. Corrective action of spreading dirt in the alleyways allowed the rest of the wild horses to be loaded without incident. This young foal was transported to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City where he will receive special care until he is ready for adoption.

Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex

The Venus Station is a research and development facility for the Deep Space Network. It is used to test advanced tracking and data acquisition equipment and techniques before deployment throughout the DSN. The station opened in 1962 with a 26-meter AZ EL antenna and was named to commemorate the first detection of the planet Venus by radar facilities at Goldstone in 1961. Radio experiments are conducted at the station to develop high-power transmitters, low-noise antenna feeds, radio frequency amplifiers, and systematically tuned receivers for precise spacecraft navigation and data acquisition. A 34-meter high-efficiency beam-waveguide antenna was completed in 1991 to facilitate development work at higher frequencies to support anticipated DSN requirements for the future. Additional station activities include participation in Planetary Radio Astronomy, Goldstone Solar System Radar (GSSR) and High Resolution on Microwave Survey. The 26 meter antenna was decommissioned in 1991.

Goldstone is one of three complexes around the world known as the Deep Space Network (DSN) established to provide the ability to communicate with spacecraft; not only in orbit around the earth, but also in the farther reaches of our solar system. The Deep Space Network complexes, placed 120° apart, provide constant communication with spacecraft as the Earth rotates. In determining the exact position for the site in California, a remote location, free from radio signal interference, was needed. The remote location of the Mojave Desert in California, near the old mining town of Goldstone, was determined to be an optimal location and in 1958 the first antenna was built. Facilities near Madrid, Spain and Canberra, Australia complete the Deep Space Network providing 360 degree coverage for spacecraft tracking.

This design uses a triangular grid. It's actually pretty easy to create, yet the 3D effect is pretty cool.

The Mars Station is the site of the largest antenna at the Goldstone Complex, a 70-meter (230 ft) diameter antenna that dwarfs its surrounding support buildings. Originally built as a 64-meter antenna in 1966, it was expanded to 70 meters in 1988 in support of the Voyager missions. The total structure stands approximately 24 stories high and weighs 7.2 million kilograms (16 million pounds). The rotation portion, which weighs nearly 4 million kilograms (8.4 million pounds), floats and moves on a thin film of hydraulic oil about 25 millimeters (.010 inch) thick. Despite its size, the antenna with its complex electronic equipment and unique mechanical systems, is a precision instrument capable of communicating with spacecraft at the edge of the solar system and beyond into interstellar space. Though this antenna was the first of its size to be built as part of NASA's Deep Space Network, identical antennas were later built in Spain and Australia. Besides being used to support deep space missions, the high gain and multiple frequency capability of this antenna makes it an extremely valuable tool for radio astronomy and radar experiments.

Funny, never noticed that the Erasmusbridge had this feature. Apparently there is a little staircase that leads to nowhere. It does make a great composition, especially when shooting with a wide angle lens :) HDR -2,0,2 handheld. Post processing in PS CS5.

The historic Bernhard Museum Complex has seen over 150 years of history roll by. The structure was built in 1851 by George Bishop and John Long as the Traveler’s Rest Hotel and is one of Auburn’s oldest surviving buildings. During the Gold Rush this rustic establishment hosted teamsters traveling the old Auburn Folsom Road and miners who were working in nearby Rich Flat.

PROVIDENT FINANCIAL MOVE TO CITY CENTRE AS PART OF £50M SCHEME

The proposed £50m McAleer & Rushe office, hotel and leisure scheme in Bradford has been given the go-ahead after gaining planning, and the developers celebrated by announcing that Provident Financial will be moving their headquarters to the new city centre site.

The Southgate scheme will bring 117,000 sq ft premium office space - occupied by the Bradford-based financial services provider - and a 200-bed Jury’s Inn hotel and restaurant to Bradford city centre.

Developers, McAleer & Rushe, named Northern Ireland Property Developer of the Year, plan to transform the 1-acre city centre site which sits on the edge of the city’s unique £750m Learning Quarter development.

Following the decision by the planning authority at Bradford Metropolitan District Council, work is now expected to commence on site immediately after the sign off by central government.

Stephen Davey, from McAleer & Rushe, said: “We’re delighted that permission has been granted. We are committed to delivering in Bradford, as part of the high-profile regeneration taking place in the city.”

Maud Marshall, Chief Executive of Bradford Centre Regeneration, said: “This is a further boost for the city and yet more evidence that the private sector continues to realise the potential we have here in Bradford.

“The development is a building block in a wider masterplan, which will deliver a vibrant, modern city centre for Bradford.”

The Detroit News Complex was constructed for the Detroit News, one of the city's leading newspapers, founded in 1873 by James E. Scripps, and occupied by the News from its opening in 191 7 until October, 2014. The publisher of the paper at the time of its construction was George G. Booth, whose vision of the paper's role and importance is reflected in the building. The News Building is also significant as a product of Detroit architect Albert Kahn's industrial and office architecture designed for a highly visible downtown setting. The News Building's exterior sculpture and relief work is a remarkable display of sculptural and decorative art that contributes strongly to its overall distinction and cultural significance. The building is also historically important for housing radio station WWJ, Michigan's first commercial radio station, which broadcast during its early years beginning in 1920 from the Detroit News Building. The Detroit News complex meets national register criterion A for its contributions to the newspaper industry's development in Detroit and the early history of commercial radio in Detroit, Michigan, and the United States. The Detroit News complex also meets national register criterion C for its 1915-24 buildings and structures designed by Detroit architect Albert Kahn.
