The architectural ethnographic complex Etura is situated at the distance of 8 km south of the town of Gabrovo in the immediate proximity of the Etara quarter and past the Sivek River (at the distance of 3 km from the road-fork to Shipka). The complex disposes an area of 60 decares an is unique for south-eastern Europe.
It is an open-air museum where is reproduced the authentic life of a typical craftsmanship settlement from the period of Bulgarian Revival. The way Bulgarian people lived 150 years ago can be perceived and felt here. One can hear the rattle of wheels and mills moved by water, the whiz of the mills for woollen cloths and for flour. Metal ornaments, pottery articles, copper utensils, braids, hot buns and whatever else come out from the skillful hands of the masters there.
The little cobblestone streets, the stone cheshmi (drinking-fountains), the gas lanterns, Sakov`s house, the house with the tavern, the clock tower and a lot of other authentic details complete the whole picture.
There is a regular bus line running from town of Gabrovo to Etara.

That the ganesh temple was actually in the middle of these peoples house/courtyard. The children were many. Maybe 23 or so, all smiling, and wearing brightly coored clothes studded with mirrors, (actually just the girls, but most were girls) They LOVED to play with us, and quickly dressed Julie up in the local garb. Eventually it was communicated that we don't need anything but a floor to sleep on, and we were generously welcomed in. (though our american concept of what is generous is quite twisted, we are coming to realize)
The Jameh complex is a veritable museum of Islamic architecture while still functioning as a busy place of worship. Showcasing the best that nine centuries of artistic and religious endeavour has achieved, from the geometric elegance of the Seljuks to the more florid refinements of the Safavid era, a visit repays time spent examining the details – a finely carved column, delicate mosaics, perfect brickwork. Covering more than 20,000 sq metres, this is the biggest mosque in Iran.

More than 100 exquisitely carved Hindu and Jain Temples make up this site, some dating back to 750 AD.
There are 161 steps to reach the main temples, and the last part is reached barefoot on white marble steps. The air temperature was 38°C, and i can only guess that the steps held a temperature of over 50°C. Talk about hot-footing it around these temples.

Evento "O Lago é Nosso", realizado no Complexo do Alemão. O lago situa-se no interior de uma pedreira e é fruto de um enorme crime ambiental. E extração descontrolada de granito gerou um enorme buraco que atingindo o lençou freático, levou a formação de grande e profundo lago artificial.

There are quite a few lovely complex yet very minimalist feeling wire sculptures in the elevator lobby of the new de Young Museum. Enough to keep my interest and make the wait for the elevator not seem to take very long. =)

Intricate stone carvings on the cloister columns at Quwwat ul-Islam Mosque, Qutb complex, Delhi – Resembles Hindu Temple Pillars – Pillars taken from Hindu temples.
The Qutb complex refers to an array of monuments and buildings at Mehrauli in Delhi, India, the Qutub Minar standing out as the most famous. Qutb-ud-din Aybak, the first ruler of the Slave Dynasty, and his successor Iltutmish (aka Altmash) first constructed the complex in their new city, called the Qila-Rai-Pithora, near Prithivraj Chauhan's older city. Many subsequent rulers, including Iltutmish and Ala ud din Khilji as well as the British added to the complex.
In addition to the most famous monument in the complex, Qutub Minar, other important buildings and structures stand in the complex, including the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque, the Ala-I-Darwaza, the Alai Minar, and the Iron Pillar. Twenty-seven previous Jain temples had been destroyed and their materials reused to construct the minar and other monuments of the complex. That resulted in the creation of a unique, Indo-Muslim architecture, blending the gods of Jainism and Hinduism with the symbols and architectural designs of Islam.
We debated putting this on Flickr. It is a complex and messy photograph, with no clear focus or subject, yet which somehow hints at an underlying order and rhythm.
Yet this is precisely how shopping in India seems to be: anarchic, annoying, painful on the senses. Everything seems chaotic, yet somehow there is an underlying order.
It is also curious how similar the transition from market to mall seems to be all over Asia.
