Completed in 1886, the Second Empire-style John Bremond Jr. House is the most outstanding home in the Bremond Block Historic District - a collection of eleven historic homes in downtown Austin, constructed from the 1850s to 1910. The block was added to National Register of Historic Places in 1970, and is considered one of the few remaining upper-class Victorian neighborhoods of the middle to late nineteenth century in Texas. Six of the eleven houses were built or expanded for members of the families of brothers Eugene and John Bremond, who were prominent in late-nineteenth-century Austin social, merchandising, and banking circles.
Located on the corner of Seventh and Guadalupe, the John Bremond, Jr. House is a graceful and exuberant example of Texas Victorian architecture. Its crested mansard roof has elaborate dormers, polychrome slate shingles, and concave bracketed curves on the front gable. The cast-iron work on the wrap-around gallery is outstanding. This house and several of the others were built by George Fiegel. All the buildings within the Bremond Block are beautifully maintained. The John Bremond, Jr. house is currently owned by the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, who have made it the association headquarters.
As of 2021, Austin had an estimated population of 964,177, The city is the cultural and economic center of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan statistical area, which had an estimated population of 2,421,115 as of July 1, 2022. Austin is home of the University of Texas at Austin, one of the largest universities in the U.S. with over 50,000 students.

Completed in 1919, this was the home of an English-Catholic congregation until 2001, when declining numbers led them to move in with the French-speaking members of the nearby Notre-Dame-de-Grace church.
The church was acquired in 2004 by the River's Edge congregation (named not for any nearby river, but rather for a passage from the Bible's Book of Joshua).

Since I can't carry a heavy camera for an indefinite period because of my shoulder surgery, I got a new toy from my wife for my birthday. A fine little Sony that weighs only half. These are the first results.
I think it's not bad!

BNSF 1785 and 1953 tie on to their lone car after working the CTRR interchange in Cloquet, MN on the evening of July 26, 2019. This edition of the Grand Rapids Local brought about 20 cars from Superior to Cloquet but after their Cloquet set out left for Rapids with this one car. Seen some short Grand Rapids Locals this summer, especially west of Cloquet.

Story:
Captured in the heart of the Jalapão region, this panoramic nightscape reveals the raw beauty of Brazil’s Cerrado under a pristine Bortle 1 sky. Dominating the scene is the luminous arch of the Milky Way, stretching from one horizon to the other, its core glowing with interstellar dust, emission nebulae, and countless stars. The reddish tones near the galactic center are enhanced by the use of a modified sensor, revealing prominent H-alpha regions like the Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae.
To the right, a striking column of Zodiacal Light rises—sunlight scattered by interplanetary dust—perfectly aligned with the ecliptic. Subtle green and red hues of airglow add a surreal touch to the lower sky, interacting with the warm tones of the dunes and the reflecting waters of the meandering stream. Buriti palms and native vegetation complete the composition, grounding this celestial spectacle in the unique landscape of the Brazilian savanna.
This image is not a blend but a multi-frame panorama, precisely captured to preserve the spatial relationships of both the terrestrial and astronomical elements. A technical and artistic tribute to one of the darkest skies in South America.

Yes, this is from Shoot 5 of Project 5. However, this is after the first 2 shots. When we completed the shots for the project, I had film leftover, and seeing as this was our last shoot, I took some more pictures. These are NOT a part of the project.

Tim, seen here finishing his piano playing. He's also a composer, an amazing singer, can play multiple instruments, and has perfect pitch (in that you can say a random note and he can sing that without a second thought).

For the sake of completeness, here's my full lineup of Tales of the Space Age. I don't think there will be more in a foreseeable future - I'm very happy with the seven pictures as is and enjoy having them on the wall of my home office.
And just in case you'd like to build some of them, 21340 Tales of the Space Age is still available in LEGO S@H. For the additional ones, you can get the instructions from my Rebrickable page: rebrickable.com/users/john.carter/mocs/

What was he thinking, what was the city thinking?
The building is hugely intimidating with proportions of a city larger than the worlds capital and for robots with chromed skulls. A building for post-humans?
“MS Pride of America is a cruise ship operated by NCL America, a division of Norwegian Cruise Lines, to sail itineraries in the Hawaiian Islands. Construction of the ship began in 2000 in the United States as part of a plan for a U.S.-built and U.S.-flagged cruise ship under Project America, but the project failed and she was eventually purchased by Norwegian Cruise Lines and completed in Germany. She was inaugurated in 2005, and was the first new U.S. flagged, U.S.-built (aside from the outfitting) deep water passenger ship in nearly fifty years since the SS Argentina of 1958.”

Another view of an abandoned farm near Dekalb,IL. This was is unusual because of the great old brick home that has been left to decay. Nearly all the other structures on the farm have lost their battle with neglect, most full of old machinery. A truly unique feature of the old house is a large dinner bell mounted on a wrought iron pole outside, the rope to ring it still leading inside a side door. It probably still rings in the wind now,but no one has answered it for a long time....
This pic is one of those you need to click on or enlarge to see the detail. Happy Monochrome Monday all-our next winter storm hits late this afternoon. Fun times! LOL
