I tried a few props before this one, but alas, the results were somewhat disappointing.
I decided to search around my shed for some tops and came across my old box of spray paint tops or lids.
I dabbled in graffiti street art a couple of years ago and had these surplus to requirements.
I like the red ones, especially with the tube protruding out. It reminded me somewhat of a weird sort of red dalek.
I only chose the green top because of its colour, also its complementary aspect between red and green.
Oh, yes, it's all photographed on a mirror base outside in the natural light with a small led light adding extra lighting.
It was rather dull outdoors yesterday, so therefore, some added light was needed.
While I remember this little image falls within the required measurements of MM.
The overall width is 2.75 inches, the red tops measure 19mm diameter, and the green middle one is slightly larger at 29mm.
67mm roughly, so therefore, within the required measurements.

Chenopodium giganteum, a close relative of spinach and quinoa, can be eaten as an alternative to spinach. It self-sows in my Ontario garden throughout the summer. It's tolerant to heat and drought and doesn't become bitter.
A deeper shade of this colourful cultivar of our native Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), one of a range of deep pinks and reds, from seed sown last year.
Metro carriage seats feature destinations within Melbourne's suburban rail network, with blue fabric complementing yellow frames and poles.

I don’t often post images from cities, as I’m not really a city lover myself, but sometimes good things happen. At the time this was a bit of a snap but processing the image it stood out for me as the blue-hour light falling on the Cattedrale di Pisa contrasts beautifully with the red umbrellas and yellow street lights from the restaurants. Anyone with a basic knowledge of colour theory will know that blue and yellow are classic complimentary colours used by artists for generations, so perhaps this was my subconcious triggering a reflex, or possibly it was blind luck!

One of my attempts at this weeks "Crazy Tuesday" theme "Complementary Colours"

I discovered to my surprise today that through the hole of 2024 I have not uploaded a single image. This is, though unacceptable to me, understandable, as not only have I spent much of this year working on a large but highly personal photographic project, but it has also been a year of great trials, emotional upheaval, self discovery, and trauma.
It seems fitting then that this first upload of the year comes quite close to the start of the story which lead into the struggle.
This image was taken at the end of 2019. I had taken on some short term work, as I required a financial boost, but was committed long term to working freelance. This job however, did not go well. At the time, I was in the beginnings of a budding long distance relationship, but one in which the other half was extremely tentative, which was causing me great stress, on-top of which I was struggling with a seemingly undiagnosable health issue. All this lead to my being brought into an office where a man whom I had never had contact with told me that he was the man in charge and that I was working too slowly for his liking. He then proceeded to show that there were cameras on us at all times (which I was unaware of) and that I had "wasted time" taking off my coat.
It took me far longer to work out that this was not worth the effort than I am proud of. After about five minutes of returning to work, I could take no more, and left, having a family member collect me, as I was too distressed to drive.
All this to say, I saw this extraordinary and terrible site on the way home, and knew that to exorcise the experience of that evening from my mind, I had to get the image. I raced home and got my camera, only to race back, now on foot and capture the image of this blaze.
My efforts were not wholly in vain. The image was shortly thereafter, used in the local press. It is perhaps such small victories which carry us through our toughest times.
I hope this blog like style of writing to accompany my images is something which you can all engage with, as I intend to do more of it as I upload this year. Given that I have so many images over the last five years yet to share, it seems sensible to reminisce as I go. I have many more projects underway to share, and I greatly appreciate any and all support.
(I want express my deepest, though late, sympathy for the owners of the barn, who were the victims of this fire. I hope the issue was resolved quickly and has not caused any lasting or irreplaceable damage.)
There's a bit of a mini theme in my photo postings today: Closed or closing businesses.
In this case we have a range of complementary colours coming together, mainly greens and reds. But the old Chinese grocery store has been replaced by a tattoo parlour, that is itself barely surviving (if the state of their sign is any indication). Of course they have plenty of competition. And I couldn't resist the way those powerlines frame the shot.
This is another shot from my complementary colours shoot for Macro Mondays. I preferred my malachite image but did like this one too.
Crazy Tuesday theme for this week is "Complementary Colours" Solomon’s seal is a classic shade garden plant that adds an architectural component to garden beds, thanks to its arching stems. In spring, these stems become lined with small, bell-shape, white blooms on the undersides. These blossoms later give way to bluish black berries that are adored by wildlife.
