More than 230 cadets began the Competitive MIAD tryouts Oct. 25 and the head count dwindled throughout the daylong assessment conducted by the Department of Military Instruction. The physical assessment included a modified Army Physical Fitness Test (pushups, situps, pullups and 2-mile run), a 6.75-mile ruck march, the Indoor Obstacle Course Test and swim test. This was followed by a military assessment which included a kit assessment and military knowledge test. Scores were compiled and the top 192 cadets proceeded to the third phase, a Leadership and Character Assessment consisting of four leaderless command tasks similar to what cadets encounter at the Leader Reaction Course at Camp Buckner. One task required a squad to move into a formation—blindfolded—alphabetically by home states. Others, like the V-Plank and River Crossing were timed obstacles requiring teamwork and problem-solving. Cadets who hoped to enter the Combat Divers Qualification Course or the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) school had a different third phase to complete that was more oriented toward the skills required to pass those courses. In all, there are 77 slots available for cadets to attend 10 different U.S. and foreign military schools. Photo by Mike Strasser/USMA PAO

This is a photograph from the Tullamore Harriers AC "Quinlan Cup" Half Marathon was held on Saturday 30th August 2014 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 12:00. This is the second year of the event. Last year, 2013, the event commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the formation of Tullamore Harriers AC which today is one of Ireland's best known athletics clubs. The race was perfectly organised. There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event. There was also a relay option where teams of two can run approximately 10.5km each. In total 568 participants completed the race which is almost 150 more than the 2013 event.

This photograph is one of a set of photographs from the Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon 2014. The permanent link to the full set of photographs is [https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157646587496250/]. This set of photographs includes photographs of the start and then photographs of the finish up to the 2 HOUR finishing time.
As mentioned above last year this race marathon race celebrated the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joining routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The half marathon today firmly brings competitive national road racing back to "The Harriers". In the past there was the famous Quinnlan Cup
Festival of Races (see a link below for some nostalgia) which was one of Ireland's Blue Ribband events with some very famous names of the past lining out for that four mile race. Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was 568 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.
Weather: The midday start seen warm pleasant conditions for running. The layout of the course meant that there was a stiff breeze into the face of competitors for the first few miles up to mile 6. When the race turned around to return to Tullamore the wind was somewhat more favourable to runners.
Course: The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course.
Location Map: Start/finish and registration and race HQ was all at Tullamore Harriers AC Club Grounds: goo.gl/maps/xZ4GM (Google Streetview)
Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, home-made breads, etc in the Harriers clubhouse afterwards. People were able to enjoy their post race refreshments outside in the warm pleasant sunshine.

You can share to: email, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Tumblr, LiveJournal, and Wordpress and Blogger blog sites. Your mobile, tablet, or desktop device will also offer you several different options for sharing this photo page on your social media outlets.
We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, etc or (2) other websites, blogs, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us.
This also extends the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.
I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?
You can download the photographic image here direct to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. However - look for a symbol with three dots 'ooo' or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.
I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?
If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Creative Commons aims to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Facing higher gas prices in the early 1970s oil crisis, along with an increasingly competitive airline market, the British government in 1971 decided to merge its two flag carrier airlines: British European Airways (BEA) and British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), along with two other regional airlines, Cambrian Airways and Northeast Airlines. The new company would be known as British Airways. It adopted a livery that mixed BOAC’s distinctive blue cheatline with BEA’s Union Jack tail motif. British Airways formally came into being in March 1974 as Britain’s sole flag carrier airline.
Over the next few years, the new airline would divest itself of its predecessors’ Hawker-Siddeley Tridents and BAC One-Elevens, going to an all-Boeing fleet (to the point that British tabloids insisted that BA stood for “Boeing Always”). The exception to the rule was the Aerospatiale/BAC Concorde, which entered service in 1976 with both British Airways and Air France as the world’s only scheduled supersonic airliner.
British Airways had inherited both BEA’s and BOAC’s huge number of routes and destinations, making it one of the world’s largest airlines by both routes and fleet size. Despite this, British Airways continued to post losses in its first decade of existence, and in Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s drive to reduce the size of the British government and its subsidies, British Airways was privatized over the course of the 1980s. This proved to be a wise course, for along with a reorganization and with new management, the airline not only became profitable, but highly successful.
In 1984, British Airways discarded its earlier all-white scheme for a more somber, businesslike gray scheme, reflecting its new private status, though it added the crest of Britain’s royal family to the tail above the subdued Union Jack. It also became far more aggressive in marketing and competition with other British international airlines—namely British Caledonian, Laker, and Virgin Atlantic. British Airways was able to acquire Caledonian in 1988 and Laker had gone bankrupt in 1982; British Airways’ campaign against Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic grew so poisonous that Branson successfully sued the airline in 1993, claiming “dirty tricks” against Virgin. Not helping the airline’s image was its acquisition of Dan-Air London in 1992, another popular though unprofitable airline.
Despite its bad press, British Airways continued to post profits and do well in the international market, becoming by 1990 one of the few airlines to fly to every continent in the world. In 1997, British Airways changed its livery back to an all-white scheme (which was becoming popular with other airlines at the time as the “Eurowhite” scheme), but controversially removed the Union Jack flag from the tails in favor of “World Images” motifs, reflecting the wide number of British Airways destinations. This angered the British public and left the airline wide open to Virgin Atlantic, which promptly added Union Jacks to its fleet and branded itself as the true British flag carrier. By 1999, British Airways discarded the World Images for a stylized Union Jack that had been carried by its Concordes.
Competition in a deregulated airline industry, especially from Virgin Atlantic, led British Airways to begin posting losses in 2000, losses accelerated the next year post 9/11. An attempt at a merger with KLM failed the same year, and the airline also faced labor problems. British Airways was forced to sell its low-cost carrier, Go, in 2001 as well. Because of fuel prices and age, the airline also retired the Concorde in 2003. Though British Airways did not risk bankruptcy, it could not maintain its losses for long, and in 2008, British Airways merged with Iberia of Spain. Both airlines would retain their identities, but operate under the umbrella of the joint-owned International Airlines Group.
Today, British Airways remains one of the world’s largest airlines and is Britain’s largest. It owns stock in several companies, and owns outright BA CityFlyer (flying from London’s downtown City Airport), OpenSkies (low-cost flights from Paris to New York), British Airways Limited (low-cost flights from London-City to New York), and British Airways World Cargo. Though it is the world’s largest operator of Boeing 747s, it is no longer “Boeing Always,” and flies a wide variety of both Boeing and Airbus products, including the A380 and 787 Dreamliner.
This 747, appropriately registered G-KILO, was used by British Airways Cargo, and was built as a pure freighter, with an upward hinging nose and no passenger windows. It shows British Airways' 1970s scheme, with simplified "British" titling and "cargo" in lower case. G-KILO would serve with the airline until 2008, when it was retired and scrapped.

Before the meet she over-heard me joking with my boy that he was only suppose to breathe towards the side of the pool where I was with the camera and that he had to be sure and smile. Sure enough she saw me clicking her picture and gave me a big smile in-between breast strokes.

Towards a modeling of World Competitiveness Cluster…
Can one to imagine that our World, in its global, is able a day go out of the crisis, in which it gets stuck everyday a little more?
The world economical crisis, the persistent social conflicts and the destructive revolutions to the other boils world, that sow only disorder, hate and violence, associated to the incoherence of the strategies adopted by the political ones, drive me to write this ticket.

The annual competitive MIAD selection was conducted Oct. 26 through the Department of Military Instruction to determine which cadets will have the opportunity to train next summer at one of 16 U.S. Army and foreign military schools. More than 400 cadets endured the daylong tryouts which began with the Army Physical Fitness Test and continued with an eight-mile foot march, Indoor Obstacle Course Test and survival swim. Cadets spent the rest of the day in school-specific assessments. U.S. Army photo by Mike Strasser/USMA PAO
Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz (born December 22, 1970) is the junior United States Senator from Texas. Elected in 2012 as a Republican, he is the first Hispanic or Cuban American to serve as a U.S. Senator from Texas. He is the chairman of the subcommittee on the Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights and Federal Courts, U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. He is also the chairman of the subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness, U.S. Senate Commerce Committee.
Between 1999 and 2003, Cruz was the director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, an associate deputy attorney general at the United States Department of Justice, and as domestic policy advisor to U.S. President George W. Bush on the 2000 Bush-Cheney campaign. He served as Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 to May 2008, after being appointed by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. He was the first Hispanic, the youngest and the longest-serving solicitor general in Texas history. Cruz was also an adjunct professor of law at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, from 2004 to 2009. While there, he taught U.S. Supreme Court litigation. Cruz is one of three Latinos in the Senate; the others—also Americans of Cuban ancestry—are fellow Republican Marco Rubio of Florida and Democrat Bob Menendez of New Jersey.
Cruz was the Republican nominee for the Senate seat vacated by fellow Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison. On July 31, 2012, he defeated Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst in the Republican primary runoff, 57%–43%. Cruz defeated former state Representative Paul Sadler in the general election on November 6, 2012. He prevailed 56%–41% over Sadler. Cruz openly identifies with the Tea Party movement and has been endorsed by the Republican Liberty Caucus. On November 14, 2012, Cruz was appointed vice-chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
On March 23, 2015, Cruz announced he would run for the Republican Party nomination in the 2016 U.S. Presidential election.
This particular British Airways 747 shows the "Asia" version of the "World Images" livery that was so controversial in the late 1990s. The tail uses a stylized Chinese ideogram pattern, complete with ink chop. As it was disliked by the British public, the World Images did not remain for long.
