Important note on Camera Compatibility
While the actual connector for many cameras may vary, often they use the same or similar control mechanisms. This trigger design expects that the focus and shutter signals represent positive signals, and a connection from either of them to the camera common causes current to flow towards the camera common connection. This is true for many Canons, Nikons, and Pentaxes.

The hole idea came on my mind because once in a while I take naturalistic photos of animals and I was interested in using something new to take photos at wild life from a different point of view than usual telephoto lenses. My idea is to hide a camera closer to where something will happen (e.g.: a passage trail for animals) and to make that camera shoot inside action and far away from my position while watching with binoculars or something like that.
This is also a good way to take sport photos as you can drive two cameras: one in your hand and the other even further away than usual distance covered by well known radio transceivers as Pocket Wizard. Depending to what you connect the Relay Switch box you can cover even kms of distance. The only problem is the time delay between the actual pressing of the PTT on trasmitter and the shot which is about half second: not bad, I would say in any case. I am pointing this out because this configuration won't be good for fast flash photography, but it's not the reason why I made it! This does not mean that you will have to take photos only in ambient light but you will have to demand your camera to trigger the hidden flashes.
SO, how does it work?! First of all, I want to state that I am not an engineer of any type (actually I studied architecture...quite different ;-) but I am stubborn enough to get to the end of a project that's on my mind).
Actually this type of schematic is not complicated at all but, after many experiments made by myself, I have been helped a LOT by an electronic website www.grix.it. Especially I would like to thank Wilcomir (who provided the schematic) and Giorgio25760 (who helped me with deep explanations when I had a technical problem).
Basically the current coming from the earphone was too weak (only 1,5V...AC!!!) to make a normal relay of 12DC operate, so there are other components to add "power" to the existing signal coming from the receiver earphone ( I keep saying earphone and not phoneS because you only use the tip of the min jack, so it's a mono jack).
Ingredients:
you need a electrolytic capacitor (100 uF), two diodes (any of series 4000), a resistance (1000 ohm), a transistor (I used BC337) and, of course, the 12DC relay. You will also need to different female mini jack plugs for IN and OUT connections and a battery. I decided to make it run with a 12v battery but I also tested it with a 9V squared battery and it DOES work well. I just went for the smallest!...Probably the higher capacity of the 9V battery will make the hole thing last longer.
You don't need an ON/OFF switch because the transistor stops the circuit unless it receive an incoming signal: so the relay normally does not consume anything!
The gadget can also operate with other entrances compatible to earphones signal. For example you can connect it to a mp3 player and it takes photos every time you press play... Of course I find it less interesting for myself, but maybe someone of you will love it that way!
You tell me why and how you use it.
Personally, I was thinking to connect it to a mobile phone and when you make a call and the cellular rings, you take a shot! (nice but too long to wait for the line...)

B♭ (B Flat)
In the western reaches of Los Angeles, at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Sepulveda, a seventeen–story alabaster tower rose against the sky. This was the headquarters of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office.
The afternoon light struck its white façade, casting back a cold, austere beauty. Before it stretched a broad lawn, a hush reigning there in stark contrast to the bustle of the city. On the front of the building, the names of the FBI and the Department of Veterans Affairs stood in bold relief, the weight of the nation inscribed in stone. Nearby lay the Los Angeles National Cemetery, where the memories of the past intertwined with the pulse of the present.
Just a few blocks away, in a hotel room, tension had taken on another form. The pale red carpet caught the glare of fluorescent light, while beyond the window the unending stream of cars along Wilshire flowed like a restless artery. The faint cry of sirens mingled with the city’s din, as if the collective strain of Los Angeles were seeping into this small room.
At the front, a makeshift stage bore the American flag and the FBI seal. Tripods stood in careful rows, monitors flashing between live feeds and scrolling headlines.
Cameron R. Bartlett, Director of the FBI, squared his shoulders. With a brief glance at the papers in his hand, he drew in a quiet breath and let his eyes travel over the gathered press. Behind his composure lay a grave unease, and a resolve as unyielding as steel.
“The incident is unfolding on a scale without precedent—” His voice, low but unwavering, filled the room. Instantly, the images on the monitors tightened every chest, sharpening the taut wire of tension. The journalists steadied their breathing, fingers trembling faintly over notebooks and cameras as the dissonance grew—between the director’s calm expression and the devastation flickering across the screens.
Some rushed to send out bulletins; others adjusted their zoom lenses, struggling inwardly to shape a sense of the whole. From a corner came the faint rustle of a page turning, the smallest sounds amplified by silence. And still the tense hour dragged on, as if the looming FBI building itself watched over the press room in mute witness.
Each time the footage wavered—smoke shifting, rubble parting to reveal a fleeting figure—the reporters’ eyes snapped to the screen. Pens scratched, shutters clicked, the faint patter of keys mingling with a silence taut enough to break.
Bartlett’s gaze lingered on each journalist, conveying a weight beyond words. That quiet pressure thickened the atmosphere, the air stretched to a thread’s breaking point. From outside came the muted hum of traffic, a distant siren’s wail—the world’s noise folding into the room’s stillness, underscoring the magnitude of what was unfolding.
At last, after answering questions in terse, measured replies, Bartlett concluded:
“That is all I can say at this time.”
His curt words gave way to a new stir, rippling through the hall. The cause lay on the monitors: another feed had appeared, bearing the caption in red, flashing in the corner—Madison Square Garden, New York City—the precise moment the carnage had begun.
The reporters in Los Angeles felt their breath catch. Following those numbers, they seemed to touch the pulse of another city across the continent. The images bound the two coasts together, weaving the entire nation into one mesh of suspense.
Then the screen shifted to a different stage—New York’s press room—where a man in a dark suit stood before the glare of flashbulbs.
Jack Vance. Once a colleague of Marcus’s at the Bureau. In rare fashion, he had left the FBI under the Department of Justice to join the Secret Service under Homeland Security. Years earlier, when Vance had headed the Violent Crimes Section, a hostage standoff erupted in Oakbridge, outside Washington, D.C. Orders from headquarters forced an early assault. In the chaos, a nineteen–year–old Black youth, misidentified as the suspect, was shot dead. The true perpetrator lay elsewhere, and Vance’s team had opposed the premature entry. Yet the assault had gone forward—under the command of none other than Bartlett, now before them on the screen. Later, in the Washington field office, Bartlett had ordered subordinates to alter the report, declaring that the assault had been Vance’s decision. Vance rose in silence, flung the papers onto the table, and struck Bartlett across the face. Officially, it had ended as Vance’s “voluntary resignation” before disciplinary measures. In truth, he had been cast out.
Now Vance’s voice, faintly delayed, overlapped with the Los Angeles air. Two distant cities shared the same gravity of silence. Pens stilled, eyes fixed on the screen. Each word, each gesture etched the outline of the disaster more sharply. The chain of images streaming through the network was not mere record, but a slice of history as it unfolded. The hush in the room stretched on, awaiting a break that never came. Breathing shallow, all present were held captive by the figure of Jack Vance.
The tension, unbroken, shifted its form. From the rear seats came a fresh murmur, loosening the taut balance. Several reporters pulled out their phones, screens glowing like scattered embers in the dimness. They were not receiving news alerts. It was a direct link, sent by an anonymous hand.
Beneath Los Angeles’s cold lights, the press room now bore the weight of three overlapping spheres—the New York briefing, the strange new footage, and the lingering echo of Vance’s voice. The reporters’ focus drifted to the unknown. It was not simply information. It was a forewarning.
Marcus Dane was the first to sense it. Standing in the aisle, watching his superior Bartlett, he noticed the stir among the journalists at the center. Several had received a live video link—from the perpetrators themselves. The same ploy that had reached Jack and the others at the Garden.
Marcus immediately checked the URL and forwarded it to Tom Caldwell, once a trusted colleague in the technical division.
The footage was unmistakable: the very same “Oval Office” where Professor Zakaria Haddad had taken his own life.
“Good afternoon. My name is Amir Nasser. I was a student of Professor Zakaria Haddad, who passed away just days ago.”
Amir leaned lightly against the desk, speaking in a gentle tone, revealing a side unseen until now.
“As he told you, we once lived quietly in Gaza. We were ruled by Hamas, by their weapons and their violence. They committed unspeakable killings against Israel. But could we have stopped them? No more than you can stop your own President from wielding the power of command. You may protest in your streets, but we had only silence, living under the shadow of informants and violence. And still your President sided with Israel, again and again, unleashing bombs until not even ruins remained. We, who offered no resistance, endured strike upon strike, invasion upon invasion. Hamas made us their shields, nesting beneath our hospitals, while we, above, became the targets.”
Amir’s voice was clear, almost luminous. His youth, his neatly combed hair, the strange stillness of his blue eyes—all drew the listeners in. Nothing in his demeanor suggested violence. He lifted a glass of water from the table, sipped, and continued.
“As Professor Haddad told you, all we were given was darkness. And what does an animal do when driven into darkness?” His eyes fell to the floor, words sinking like stones.
“We lost everything—our homes, our lovers, our families. Everything. Do you not call it unjust, to die with nothing left? Is it not the human way to confront those who take? To force them to grasp what it means to be robbed? What does it mean, America, that you drink your cola unchanged, while we are stripped bare?”
He paused, then smiled faintly.
“Jack, the weekend will be a busy one.”
The smile was open, disarming—and chilling.
“In these years, the Democrats’ tolerance has faded, and the Republicans have driven immigrants to the edge. So we, scattered across this nation, have shared our knowledge, and we have reached a conclusion. ICE, who have treated us as vermin, must be re-educated.”
Since the shift in power, ICE had grown ever harsher. With offices in nearly every state, their reach extended across the land. More than twenty thousand employees in all: some seventy-eight hundred in Enforcement and Removal Operations, sixty-five hundred in Homeland Security Investigations, six thousand in the legal branch known as OPLA.
“We gained a fragment of their data. Let me be honest—only a fragment. ICE is too vast, too diffuse. But we chose two places, Jack. Los Angeles and New York. And we will tell you. That is generous, is it not? You should be grateful.”
Amir’s smile remained as he concluded:
“But remember, our purpose is re-education. Wait for it, Jack. Until then.”

僕の新しい小説。
B♭ （ビーフラット）
ロサンゼルスの西部、ウィルシャー大通りとセプルヴェダ通りが交差する地点にそびえる17階建ての白亜の高層ビルが、FBIロサンゼルス支局だ。
午後の光がビルの白い外壁に反射し、支局の冷徹な美しさを放っている。
その前には広大な芝生が広がり、周囲の喧騒とは対照的な静寂が漂っている。建物の正面にはFBIや退役軍人局の文字が掲げられ、国家の重みが息づいていた。近くにはロサンゼルス国立墓地もあり、過去と現在の記憶が交錯する場所だ。
そのビルから数ブロック離れたホテルの一室では、緊迫した空気が別の形で立ち上がっていた。淡い赤のカーペットに蛍光灯の光が反射し、窓の向こうにはウィルシャー大通りの車列が途切れなく動いている。遠くでサイレンが混ざった街の喧騒がかすかに届き、まるで街全体の緊張がこの部屋に流れ込んでいるかのようだった。
前方には米国旗とFBIのロゴを掲げた簡易ステージが設けられ、カメラの三脚が整然と並び、モニターには現場映像や速報テロップが次々と流れている。
キャメロン・R・バートレットFBI長官は少し肩を張り、手元の書類に一瞥を投げると、静かに息を吸い込み、視線を記者たちに巡らせた。その目には冷静さの奥に、深い憂慮と覚悟が宿っていた。
「事件は未曾有の規模で進行中です――」低く、しかし確かな声が室内に響く。モニターの映像が一瞬にして全員の胸を締めつけ、緊張の空気がさらに鋭く張り詰めた。記者たちは呼吸を整え、心臓の鼓動を感じながら、手元のメモやカメラを操作する指先の微かな震えに気づいていた。目の前の長官の落ち着いた表情と、報道される惨状の映像の間で、胸の奥がひりつくようだった。
ある者は速報を即座に送信し、別の者はカメラのズームを調整しながら、心の中で事件の全貌を理解しようと必死に整理する。部屋の片隅ではメモ用紙がめくられる音がかすかに響き、静かな緊迫の時間が延々と流れていた。遠くにそびえるFBIの本部ビルが、まるでこの会見室の緊張を静かに見守っているかのようだった。
モニターに映る被害現場の映像が揺れ、煙と瓦礫の合間に時折人影が見え隠れするたび、記者たちの視線が瞬時に吸い寄せられた。
誰もが次の言葉を待ちながらペンを走らせ、カメラのシャッターを切る。息を潜めるような静寂と、キーボードを打つ微かな打鍵音が混ざり合い、室内の緊迫感をさらに際立たせる。
キャメロンの視線は一人ひとりの記者を確かめるように巡り、言葉にならない圧力を静かに伝えた。その沈黙が、場内の緊張を増幅させ、空気はまるで切れそうな糸のように張り詰めていた。
外の街路を行き交う車の光やサイレンの音が、遠くで微かに響く。室内の静寂と街の喧騒が対照的に重なり、事件の重大さを肌で感じさせる時間が、ゆっくりと流れていった。
キャメロンは、記者らへの質問へ、手短に、簡潔に答え終えるといった。
「いま、お答えできるのは以上です」
キャメロンのそっけない言葉の流れとは別のざわめきが沸き起こった。
そのざわめきの中心には、モニターに映し出された別の映像があった。ニューヨーク、マディソン・スクエア・ガーデン前――あの惨劇が始まった瞬間の時刻を示すテロップが、画面の隅に赤く点滅していた。
ロサンゼルスの会見場にいる記者たちは、その数字を追いながら、陸を隔てたもうひとつの都市の脈動を肌で感じていた。時差を越えてつながる映像は、ただの中継を超え、国全体をひとつの緊張の網で縛り上げているかのようだった。
やがて会場のスクリーンに切り替わったのは、ニューヨークの記者会見場。暗いスーツを纏ったジャックが壇上に姿を現し、フラッシュの閃光を真正面から受け止めていた。
ジャック・ヴァンス。マーカスの元FBIの同僚だ。非常に稀なケースだったが、ジャックは司法省のFBIから国土安全保障省管轄のシークレットサービスへ移った。ジャックが当時、元FBI暴力犯罪課主任だった頃、ワシントンD.C.郊外・オークブリッジにて、人質立てこもり事件が発生した。本部からの命令で突入が早まり、現場では容疑者と誤認された１９歳の黒人青年が射殺された。実行犯は別におり、ジャックのチームは突入に反対していた。しかし、今まさにディスプレイ内で会見している昇進したキャメロンの命令で突入したのだ。FBIワシントン支局会議室にて、キャメロンが「報告書を書き換えろ」と部下へ命じ、「突入はジャックの判断だった」と報告するといった。ジャックは黙って立ち上がり、書類の束を叩きつけ、キャメロンの頬を殴った。公式には、懲戒処分前のジャックの自主退職という形で処理されたが、実質的には組織から追放されていた。
ジャックの声は、わずかな遅延を伴いながらも、ロサンゼルスの空気に重ね合わされた。遠く離れた二つの都市が、同じ沈黙の重みを共有する瞬間だった。
記者たちは手元のペンを止め、画面を凝視した。そこに映る言葉や仕草の一つひとつが、事件の輪郭をさらに濃くしていく。ネットを介して結ばれた映像の連鎖は、ただの記録ではなく、今まさに進行する歴史の断面を露わにしていた。会場に漂う沈黙は、ひとつの区切りを待ちながら、しかし終わりを告げることなく続いていた。誰もが画面に映るジャックの姿に釘付けとなり、呼吸さえ浅くなるのを自覚していた。
続いていた緊張が次の瞬間、別の形を取り始めた。
後方の記者席から、低いざわめきがふたたび広がり、場内の均衡をかすかに揺らした。何人かの記者が同時に携帯端末を取り出し、視線を走らせる。その小さな光が闇の中の焔のように散り、互いに反応し合った。
届いたのはニュース速報ではない。匿名の送信者から直接送りつけられた、映像へのリンクだった。
ロサンゼルスの冷たい照明の下に、ニューヨークの記者会見の緊張と、新たに流れ込んだ未知の映像とが複雑に重なり合う。ジャックの声がまだ空気に残っていたが、記者たちの意識はすでに別の方向へ引き寄せられていた。
それはただの情報ではなく、何かが次に起ころうとしている予兆そのものだった。
そして、その異変に最初に気づいたのが、会場の通路に立つマーカス・デインだった。
マーカス・デインは、上司のキャメロンの様子を会場の通路から眺めていたが、会場中央部に座っていた記者らの数人がざわめいたので確認にいった。
どうやら、記者の複数に犯人らのライブ動画のリンクが送られてきたようだ。ガーデンでジャックらに送信されたのと同じ手口だ。
マーカスは、すぐにURLを確認し、トム・コールドウェルへ転送した。以前、技術班にいた際の信頼できる部下だ。
映像は、ザカリアが自死した『大統領執務室』と同じようだった。
「みなさんはじめまして。私はアミール・ナッセル。先日、亡くなった私の教授、ザカリア・ハッダードの生徒だ」
アミールは、机の前面に腰を預け、穏やかな口調で、切り出した。アナらに見せた表情とは別の、内に潜んでいた一面をさらしているようだった。
「教授が話したように、私たちはガザ地区で平穏に暮らしていた。私たちはハマスによって武器と暴力で支配されていた。彼らはイスラエルに対し、残酷な殺戮を犯した。しかし、それを私たちが止められただろうか。みなさんが、アメリカ大統領の指揮権を止めることができないように、私たちにはそれができなかった。みなさんは、抗議のデモを行えるが私たちは息を潜め、見えない密告と暴力に怯えながら生きるほかなかったのだ。にも関わらず、ひたすらみなさんの大統領はイスラエルに加担し続け、爆撃を繰り返した。まったくの無抵抗なわたしたちになんどもなんども建物の残骸すら残らないほどに爆撃を繰り返し、侵攻してきた。ハマスらは私たちを人間の盾にした。病院の地下に巣を作り、忍び込み、私たちは地上でターゲットにならざるおえなかった」

This is my very first 'Moc'. The idea was to create a building inspired in the Haussmann style present in most of central Paris, without any piece count limit that would keep the modular compatibility and the minifig scale. So this is not a direct replica of any particular one. The street name is also fictional, there is no 'Boulevard des Lumières' in Paris, but its spirit is highly Parisian.

Setting: New York City.
Red, Yellow, Blue——
It was just past 7 p.m. when a light drizzle began to fall on East 52nd Street.
Anaya Patel leaned against the wall of the building next to Tot Ramen, where she was supposed to meet someone, and absently stared at the traffic light at the intersection to her right.
It was already July, yet the summer felt cooler than last year’s. She regretted stepping out in just a T-shirt.
When the light turned green, Anaya squinted, narrowing her gaze.
Kana, her old classmate, was waving and smiling as she ran toward her——
The flat ceiling of Madison Square Garden seemed to bulge slightly with the heat of the crowd, or so it appeared to Jack.
Cheers welcoming the presidential candidate clashed with shouts of outrage, rattling deep inside his ears.
Jack scanned the arena quickly before glancing back down at his iPhone. Several social media apps were open at once, and furious posts streamed across the screen.
One post in the bottom right corner—on Meta—caught his eye.
A death threat.
Presidential candidate Justin Bradford was about to take the stage with his fiancée, Eleanor Blake.
As a red spotlight—the color of the Republican Party—lit up the center of the stage, the couple stepped out.
And at that exact moment, a gunshot rang out.
It was subtle enough to be missed at first—but Jack heard it. Two shots.
As chaos erupted around him, Jack quietly closed his eyes, picturing the trajectory.
The first bullet—likely from his right, near the PA system. But that area should have been covered by agents from his own unit.
He calculated the second shot. It probably came from the left side of the stage.
It was aimed with precision, taking into account the positioning of both Justin and Eleanor.
There might have been a leak.
Then came a second report.
His colleague Ben Holloway’s voice, calm as ever.
The heart was missed, but both bullets had hit. One had grazed it and lodged in the epigastric area, just under the diaphragm.
Jack replied, equally calm.
“Justin’s Bombay blood. I confirmed it three days ago with Bellevue Hospital. They have reserves stored.”
Ben responded in a low voice, as if nothing had happened.
“Understood.”
Justin was rushed to Bellevue, the closest hospital to Madison Square Garden.
Jack called Elijah Kane directly from his smartphone.
Using WhatsApp or any other messaging app was strictly forbidden in the Secret Service.
Elijah answered before the first ring ended.
“Jack, it’s bad. We don’t have it. No Bombay blood.”
Jack was stunned.
“I confirmed it three days ago. I spoke directly to the person in charge—can't recall their name—but I saw the blood bags myself.”
After a pause, Elijah replied.
“That person died in a car accident yesterday.”
Anaya Patel waited for her husband Arjun at Tot Ramen.
With her was Mika (Sato), her best friend since college—Japanese.
Just as the server placed a steaming bowl of ramen in front of her, Anaya’s phone rang.
The caller ID said Bellevue Hospital.
She answered without hesitation.
Mika looked on, concerned.
“Is this Anaya Patel? I’m Sasha Wilson from Emergency.
You may have heard—Republican presidential candidate has been shot.
We need your blood.
Stay where you are. A Secret Service vehicle is en route.”
Following Mika’s gaze, Anaya turned to the display above the counter.
A live report from MSG was playing.
Then, a man in a sleek blue suit with brown skin approached her.
“I’m Rohan Shah, Secret Service.
Please come with me to the hospital.
The car is ready.”
He reached for her hand with urgency.
Just then, Anaya’s iPhone buzzed again. An unfamiliar number.
She tapped it.
“Hello?”
“Anaya Patel?”
“Yes. Who is this?”
“Jack. Jack Vance. Secret Service. I’ll be there shortly.”
“How do you know where I am?”
“We’re professionals. We have our ways.”
“But the Secret Service guy is already here.”
“No—he’s not!” Jack’s voice roared through the phone.
At that instant, the man in front of her pulled a rifle from under his jacket and aimed it at her forehead.
A small gunshot rang through the restaurant.
Anaya froze.
She couldn’t speak.
As the man collapsed to the floor, another figure emerged—also pointing a gun at her.
It was her husband, Arjun.
“Freeze! FBI!”
NYPD officers in uniform and FBI agents in gray suits stormed in.
“Hands behind your head! Get down on the floor!”
The cliché movie-like commands rang out as Anaya trembled. Mika, too.
But probably no one shook more than Arjun.
Jack arrived moments later.
“Anaya Patel!”
Still trembling, Anaya answered without looking up.
“That’s me.”
Jack, drenched in sweat, pulled her upright.
“We’re going to the hospital.”
A message from Elijah arrived with a link.
Jack, now in the passenger seat with Anaya, tossed her his iPhone.
“Open it!”
She tapped it—it appeared to be a livestream.
“Good evening, New York. And Los Angeles.
My name is Zakaria Haddad.
That’s my real name.
A few years ago, I lived in Gaza.
Now I’m in a room that mimics one you know very well.”
A man with brown skin and a beard sat in what looked almost exactly like the Oval Office.
He looked at his watch, then back at the camera.
“It’s time for breaking news.
Keep your eyes on your phones.”
Just then, an alert popped up:
BREAKING: Former Democratic President Owen Reed reportedly shot at the Los Angeles Convention Center
Zakaria bowed his head slightly and chuckled.
“A sad headline, isn’t it?
But don’t be sad, America.
In Gaza, we endured 55,000 times worse.
We lost more than 55,000 loved ones.
We wept—endlessly.”
Still looking down, he clenched his fists and slammed the desk.
When he looked up, tears glistened in his eyes.
“We do not seek money.
Nor honor through death.
All we want—
are tears.
Tears equal to the ones we shed.
Only those tears can heal us.”
Placing both elbows on the desk and clasping his hands, Zakaria gently rested his chin on them. He closed his eyes, and a heavy silence filled the room. The corners of his eyes seemed to tremble ever so slightly. Then, slowly, he began to speak.
“I am just one among fifty-five thousand. Even if I disappear, the will of fifty thousand others will remain—unchanging, undying, carried forward. I am here to give voice to that will.”
Zakaria opened the desk drawer, took out a Glock 17, and slid the action, chambering a round. He raised the gun to his temple.
A Sunni Muslim, he looked straight into the camera and spoke with a hint of sarcasm.
“God bless you. America.”
Zakaria closed his eyes and pulled the trigger straight back. A dry crack echoed through the room.
The screen cut to black in an instant.

We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.
On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.
Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.
If you're heading to the Bahamas, this might be a good reference.
The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.
My wife is showing us the hotel room.
But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.
When I played the DVD that arrived, it showed footage of our arrival in the Bahamas.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

舞台はニューヨークです。
— 赤、黄色、青ーーー
イースト５２ndストリートに小雨が舞いはじめたのは、午後七時過ぎだった。
アナヤ・パテルは、待ち合わせたトットラーメンのとなりのビルの壁面にもたれ、右手に見える十字路の信号機をぼんやり眺めていた。もう７月だというのに、昨年よりも冷夏に感じ、Tシャツ一枚で出かけてきたことを後悔していた。
十字路の信号が青に変わると、アナは目を細め、凝視した。同級生のカナがこちらへ手を振りながら微笑み、駆け寄ってきていた——
マジソンスクエアガーデンの平坦な天井は、吐き出された人の熱気でいつもより膨らんでいるように、ジャックには見えた。大統領候補を歓迎する声とそれを罵倒する叫び声が錯綜し、鼓膜の奥を揺らしていた。
ジャックは、軽く場内の隅々まで目を凝らしてから、再びアイフォンに目を落とした。画面には、いくつかのSNSが同時に広がっており、それぞれが激しい書き込みによって文字が流れてゆく。
右下の、メタの書き込みに、ジャックは目を留めた。殺害予告だ。
大統領候補のジャスティン・ブラッドフォードは、フィアンセのエリノア・ブレイクとともに間も無くステージに立つ。
共和党を示す赤い光がステージ中央に差し込むと、二人は同時に現れた。
と、同時に、銃声が響いた。
一聴しただけでは気づかなかったがジャックの耳は聴き分けた。弾は二発だ。
騒然とした場内をよそに、ジャックは静かに目を閉じた。発射音から着弾までを想像した。
一発目の弾は、ジャックの右手、たぶん、PA近辺からだ。しかし、ジャックと同じ配属のシークレットサービスが張り込んでいたはずだ。もうひとつの弾丸をジャックは再び目を閉じて計算した。
弾は、たぶん、ステージ左手側からだ。ジャスティンとエリノアの二人の立ち位置を計算しているようだ。ひょっとしたら情報が漏れていたかもしれない。
ジャックの耳に第２報が入った。同僚のベン・ホロウェイの冷静な声だ。心臓ははずれたものの、2発の弾丸が打ち込まれていた。弾は心臓をかすめ、心窩部、ちょうど横隔膜の下に食い込んでいた。
ジャックも冷静に、ベンへ伝えた。
「ジャスティンはボンベイブラッドだ。三日前にベルビュー病院に確認した。予備の血液は保管されている」
ベンは、何事もなかったかのように、わかったと静かにいった。
マジソンスクエアガーデンにもっとも近いベルビュー病院に、ジャスティンを運び込む。ジャックは、病院で控えているイライジャ・ケインにスマートフォンから直接電話した。シークレットサービスではもちろんワッツアップなどのSNSはご法度だ。
ワンコールが切れる前にすぐイライジャは反応した。
「ジャック、大変だ。血液がない。ボンベイブラッドがないんだ」
ジャックは、耳を疑った。
「三日前に、俺は直接担当の、名前は忘れたな。とにかく目の前でブラッドバッグを確認したぞ」
イライジャは、数秒の沈黙の後、応えた。
「その血液の管理者は、きのう、交通事故で亡くなったんだ」
アナヤ・パテルは、夫のアルジュンをトットラーメンで待った。
学生時代からの親友、ミカ（佐藤）（日本人）も一緒だ。
店員が、アナヤの目の前にラーメンを差し出したとき、スマートフォンが鳴った。
登録してあるベルビュー病院からだった。
アナヤは、躊躇わずに出た。着信を見たミカは不安げにアナヤを見守った。
「アナヤ・パテルさんですか？ 私は救急部のサーシャウィルソンと言います。すでにご存知かもしれませんが、共和党大統領候補が撃たれました。あなたの血が必要です。すぐに病院へ来てください。シークレットサービスの車が迎えに行きます。動かないでください」
アナヤは、呆然としているミカの視線を追って、背後を振り返った。カウンターのちょうど左上に下がったディスプレイには、MSGの現在が男性レポーターによって放映されている。
アナは開いた入り口に目を移した。青い、洗練されたスーツをまとった褐色の肌の男性が、足早にアナに寄ってきた。
「シークレットサービスのロハン・シャーと言います。私と一緒に病院へ来てください。外に車を用意してあります」
彼は真剣な眼差しでアナへ伝え、手を引こうとした瞬間、アナのアイフォンが再び震えた。番号だけ浮かびあがっている。登録されていないようだ。アナは慌てて、タッチした。
「はい」
「アナヤ・パテルさん？」
「ええ、あなたは？」
「ジャック。ジャック・ヴァンス。シークレットサービスです。もうすぐそちらへ到着します」
「わたしの場所をどうやって？」
「わたしたちはプロだ。あらゆる手段を用意しています」
「もう、シークレットサービスの人が来てるわ」
ジャックの、違う！ という怒声が響いた瞬間、目の前の男性はスーツの内から小銃を引き抜き、アナの額に向けた。
店内に小さな銃声が響いた。
アナは、震えることすら忘れ、言葉を失い、放心していた。
目の前の男性がゆっくり床へ崩れると、夫のアルジュンが、やはりアナに銃を向けて現れた。
「フリーズ！FBI ！」
数人の制服を着たNYPDとグレイのスーツを纏ったFBIが叫んだ。
「全員、手を頭の後ろに回して床に伏せろ！」
映画のようなお決まりのセリフに、アナは震えていた。もちろん、ミカも。たぶん、アナの夫のアルジュンが最も震えていただろう。
遅れて、ジャックが店内に向け、叫んだ。
「アナヤ・パテル！」
アナは、見上げることなく、そのままに応えた。足がまだ震えている。
「わたしです」
額に汗を浮かべたジャックは、アナの身を起こすと、いった。
「すぐに病院へ行く」
病院にいるイライジャから、リンク付きのメッセージが届いた。
助手席に乗り込んだアナへジャックはアイフォンを放り投げると、リンク先を開け、と叫んだ。
慌てて、アナが触れると、どうやら生放送のようだった。
「こんばんわ、ニューヨーク。そしてロサンゼルス。私の名前はザカリア・ハッダード。本名だ。
数年前、ガザに住んでいた。今は、みなさんがよく目にする部屋を真似た部屋に私はいる」
褐色の、顎髭をたくわえたザカリアは、アメリカ大統領執務室とほとんど同じ部屋の椅子に座っていた。
腕時計にゆっくり目を落としてから、再び、カメラに視線を向けた。
「そろそろブレイキングニュースだ。スマートフォンの速報に注目して欲しい」
ザカリアがそういった途端、速報が流れた。

ザカリアは、一瞬俯いて笑いを堪えながらいった。
「悲しい速報じゃないか。アメリカのみなさん。でもどうか悲しまないで欲しい。私が経験したガザではこの55,000倍だ。55,000人以上の大切な人を失い、そして、涙を流した」
ザカリアは、再び俯いたまま、両手を固く握りしめ、力強く机を叩きつけた。
顔を上げたザカリアの目にはうっすらと涙が溢れていた。
「私たちは、お金を求めない。また、死による名誉も求めない。私たちが欲しいのは、55,000人が流した涙と同じだけの涙だ。流された涙と同じだけの涙だけが、私たちを癒す」
両肘を机につき、両手を組むと、ザカリアは静かに顎を乗せた。目を閉じて、しばらく沈黙が続いた。目尻が細かく震えているようだった。そのままゆっくり口を開いた。
「55,000人のうちの私はひとりに過ぎない。私が消えても５万人もの意思は決して消えず、引き継がれる。私は、私たちの意思をここに表明するためにいる」
ザカリアは、机の引き出しから、グロック１７を取り出すと、スライドしてチャンバーに弾を流した。そして、自分のこめかみに向けた。
スンニ派である彼は、まっすぐにカメラを見つめ、皮肉混じりにいった。
「神のご加護を。アメリカ」
ザカリアは、目を閉じると、トリガーを真っ直ぐに引いた。乾いた音が部屋に響いた。映像は、瞬時に黒へ切り替わった。

新婚旅行の8mmフィルムが数十年ぶりに出てきて、DVDに焼きました。
１９９３年６月６日、僕らは結婚し、そのままニューヨークを経由して、バハマのナッソーへ向かいました。
目的地は、亡くなられたダイアナ妃が新婚旅行へ向かったピンクサンドビーチです。
もしもこれからバハマへ向かうならば、参考に見てもよいかもしれません。
泊まったホテルは、今はもうないラマダホテル。
妻がホテルの部屋を紹介しています。
でも、今はリアルタイムで美しい景色が見られますね。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

The "Apsara" was developed by Reveniens based on feedback from Etton Conglomerate managers of remote asteroid mining operations. Servicing frames under the conditions common to those facilities is notoriously difficult due to the small storage space available for spare parts and the often long delays in shipping times for special orders. For that reason the Apsara was designed for maximum compatibility with commonly available parts, and features gold-standard ruggedization. With minimal tuning, thruster output can be optimized for power (helpful for hauling and labor) or maneuverability (best employed by security patrols and prospecting expeditions).

I've been drooling over lots of Frame Arms models lately, and developed a deep and enduring love for the unfortunately named Baselard. I just can't get enough of the ridiculous number of thruster nozzles... Anyway, this is a product of that fascination - including the Comically Large Drill(tm), which is my take on Frame Arm’s “Vortex Driver”. The gun is based on one that’s used by some mooks in Gundam AGE (can’t remember which ones ^^;). I like the look of it, but it’s uncomfortably flimsy because of all the single-stud connections.
"Apsara" refers to a kind of Hindu water spirit, which I like for a 0G frame because it hints at the old "space is an ocean" trope, and this absolutely HAD to be a 0G frame on account of the aforementioned thruster-glut. Though, now that I think about it, I guess I could have bolted on some wings and called it an aerial unit... maybe sometime I’ll make a variant based on the Stylet.

"That" Frank said, struggling for breath "was..nowhere near...15 minutes". He was right. The journey had taken well over half an hour, and had left Frank panting, like a dog in summer. Despite being a security guard, prolonged bouts of exercise really weren't Franks thing. He looked around for Jackie, ready to make a quip about the long journey. But she was nowhere to be found. The Doctor had noticed her absence too. 'Bloody humans' he thought. 'Tell 'em one thing, 9 times out of 10, they'll do the complete opposite'. He retraced his steps, back through the hangar door, to check she hadn't simply fallen behind. No such luck.
"Something the matter?" called Paul. "Nope, our friend just seems to have fallen behind. I hope" replied the Doctor. Frank elbowed him in the arm, his eyes giving a 'what are you doing?' look. The Doctor put his arm around Franks shoulder, turning him away from the others "Phone"
"What?"
"Mobile, give it to me"
"Uh, sure" replied frank, digging his mobile out of his pocket. The Doctor took it, practically snatching it out of Franks hand. Immediately, he started sonic-ing it.
Confused, Frank decided to see what the two retrieval team members were doing. Well, one retrieval team member. Sal had gone off somewhere, looking for something. Paul stood at a computer terminal, though, unlike one Frank had ever seen. It wasn't so much a terminal, as a table, with a few buttons dotted around it. "That's strange" muttered Paul, absent-mindedly.
"Sal, any sign of Trev?"
"No. He should be here. I gave him strict instructions to stay in the hangar."
"Great"
Paul started pressing buttons on the table and a display popped up. A hologram. He moved his fingers across the screen and prodded at it, a map appearing. He pressed some more buttons, and a circle appeared, moving rapidly across the map.
"Whats-"
"Tracker. Our guys gone missing. this should be able to track 'im down."
The Doctor, who had been pacing, sonic in one hand, phone in the other, stuck his head up "Tracker" he said, absent-mindedly. Without so much as a breath, he shot over to the table, practically shoving Frank and Paul out of the way. He soniced a panel, which popped open like a jack-in-the-box, revealing tangling wire in every colour known to man. "What the hell are you-" Sal started to ask as the Doctor started frantically pulling out wires. "Oh, don't mind me, just trying to make a connection. Aha!" he said triumphantly, pulling a purple wire from the table.
He took the sonic to it, burning the wire apart, before shoving the inner workings into Franks phone. Satisfied with his handiwork, he explained "There. Now I can use Franks phone to find Jackie". The screen sparked, but remained working. Again the map popped up. But this time, it was accompanied by 'Located' and two little red dots. "That's where they are? Trev and your friend." asked Sal, wary about the Doctor intentions. "Yep. Approximately 2, no, 3 miles away from our current location."
"We'll take the rover" Paul said, eager to regain command. "You two" he pointed at Frank and the doctor, "stay here. Can't be endangering civilian lives."
"Not to disagree" the Doctor interjected "But I feel it'd be a lot safer if we stuck together. Jackie and..Trev was it, didn't just wander off. There's bodies everywhere, and I highly doubt everyone just suddenly dropped dead. Not with those injuries."
"Fine" Sal sighed, exasperated. You'd better come with then. There should be spare suits in the rover, just, don't touch anything." She turned away and began walking towards the rover. The others followed.
"Well, here we go". The Doctor turned to Frank, who looked worried. "I'm sure she's fine. Probably just stumbled through a wormhole or teleportation fissure or something". He cracked a 'reassuring' smile and continued towards the rover, Frank following behind.

Some background:
The Georgian Air Force and Air Defense Division (თავდაცვის ძალების ავიაციისა და საჰაერო თავდაცვის სარდლობა; tavdatsvis dzalebis aviatsiisa da sahaero tavdatsvis sardloba) was established on January 1, 1992, and in September the Georgian Air Force conducted its first combat flight during the separatist war in Abkhazia. On August 18, 1998, the two divisions were unified in a joint command structure and renamed the Georgian Air Force.
In 2010, the Georgian Air Force was abolished as a separate branch and incorporated into the Georgian Land Forces as Air and Air Defense sections. By that time, the equipment – primarily consisting of Eastern Bloc aircraft inherited from the Soviet Union after the country’s dissolution – was totally outdated, the most potent aircraft were a dozen Suchoj Su-25 attack aircraft and a handful of MiG-21U trainers.
In order to rejuvenate the air arm, Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing (TAM), also known as JSC Tbilaviamsheni and formerly known as 31st aviation factory, started a modernization program for the Su-25, for the domestic forces but also for export customers. TAM had a long tradition of aircraft production within the Soviet Union. In the 1950s the factory started the production of Mikoyan's MiG-15 and later, the MiG-17 fighter aircraft. In 1957 Tbilisi Aircraft State Association built the MiG-21 two-seater fighter-trainer aircraft and its various derivative aircraft, continuing the MiG-21 production for about 25 years. At the same time the company was manufacturing the K-10 air-to-surface guided missile. Furthermore, the first Sukhoi Su-25 (known in the West as the "Frogfoot") close support aircraft took its maiden voyage from the runway of 31st aviation factory. Since then, more than 800 SU-25s had been delivered to customers worldwide. From the first SU-25 to the 1990s, JSC Tbilaviamsheni was the only manufacturer of this aircraft, and even after the fall of the Soviet Union the production lines were still intact and spares for more than fifty complete aircraft available. Along with the SU-25 aircraft 31st aviation factory also launched large-scale production of air-to-air R-60 and R-73 IR guided missiles, a production effort that built over 6,000 missiles a year and that lasted until the early 1990s. From 1996 to 1998 the factory also produced Su-25U two-seaters.
In 2001 the factory started, in partnership with Elbit Systems of Israel, upgrading basic Su-25 airframes to the Su-25KM “Scorpion” variant. This was just a technical update, however, intended for former Su-25 export customers who would upgrade their less potent Su-25K export aircraft with modern avionics. The prototype aircraft made its maiden flight on 18 April 2001 at Tbilisi in full Georgian Air Force markings. The aircraft used a standard Su-25 airframe, enhanced with advanced avionics including a glass cockpit, digital map generator, helmet-mounted display, computerized weapons system, complete mission pre-plan capability, and fully redundant backup modes. Performance enhancements included a highly accurate navigation system, pinpoint weapon delivery systems, all-weather and day/night performance, NATO compatibility, state-of-the art safety and survivability features, and advanced onboard debriefing capabilities complying with international requirements. The Su-25KM had the ability to use NATO-standard Mark 82 and Mark 83 laser-guided bombs and new air-to-air missiles, the short-range Vympel R-73. This upgrade extended service life of the Su-25 airframes for another decade.
There were, however, not many customers. Manufacturing was eventually stopped at the end of 2010, after Georgian air forces have been permanently dismissed and abolished. By that time, approximately 12 Scorpions had been produced, but the Georgian Air Force still used the basic models of Su-25 because of high cost of Su-25KM and because it was destined mainly for export. According to unofficial sources several Scorpions had been transferred to Turkmenistan as part of a trade deal.
In the meantime, another, more ambitious project took shape at Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing, too: With the help of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) the company started the development of a completely new attack aircraft, the TAM-1 “Gvelgeslas” (გველგესლას, Viper). It heavily relied on the year-long experience gathered with Su-25 production at Tblisi and on the tools at hand, but it was eventually a completely new aircraft – looking like a crossbreed between the Su-25 and the American A-10 with a T-tail.
This new layout had become necessary because the aircraft was to be powered by more modern, less noisy and more fuel-efficient Rolls Royce AE 3012 turbofan engines - which were originally intended to power the stillborn Yakovlev Yak-77 twin-engine business jet for up to 32 passengers, a slightly derated variant of the GMA 3012 with a 44 in diameter (112 cm) fan and procured via IAI from the United States through the company’s connection with Gulfstream Aerospace. Their larger diameter (the Su-25’s original Soyuz/Tumansky R-195 turbojets had a diameter of 109,5 cm/43.1 in) precluded the use of the former integral engine nacelles along the fuselage. To keep good ground clearance against FOD and to protect them from small arms fire, the engine layout was completely re-arranged. The fuselage was streamlined, and its internal structure was totally changed. The wings moved into a low position. The wings’ planform was almost identical to the Su-25’s, together with the characteristic tip-mounted “crocodile” air brakes. Just the leading edge inside of the “dogteeth” and the wing roots were re-designed, the latter because of the missing former engine nacelles. This resulted in a slightly increased net area, the original wingspan was retained. The bigger turbofans were then mounted in separate pods on short pylons along the rear fuselage, partly protected from below by the wings. Due to the jet efflux and the engines’ proximity to the stabilizers, these were re-located to the top of a deeper, reinforced fin for a T-tail arrangement.
Since the Su-25’s engine bays were now gone, the main landing gear had to be completely re-designed. Retracting them into the fuselage or into the relatively thin wings was not possible, TAM engineers settled upon a design that was very similar to the A-10: the aircraft received streamlined fairings, attached to the wings’ main spar, and positioned under the wings’ leading edges. The main legs were only semi-retractable; in flight, the wheels partly protruded from the fairings, but that hardly mattered from an aerodynamic point of view at the TAM-1’s subsonic operational speed. As a bonus they could still be used while retracted during emergency landings, improving the aircraft’s crash survivability.
Most flight and weapon avionics were procured from or via Elbit, including the Su-25KT’s modernized “glass cockpit”, and the TAM-1’s NATO compatibility was enhanced to appeal to a wider international export market. Beyond a total of eleven hardpoints under the wings and the fuselage for an external ordnance of up to 4.500 kg (9.900 lb), the TAM-1 was furthermore armed with an internal gun. Due to procurement issues, however, the Su-25’s original twin-barrel GSh-30-2 was replaced with an Oerlikon KDA 35mm cannon – a modern variant of the same cannon used in the German Gepard anti-aircraft tank, adapted to the use in an aircraft with a light-weight gun carriage. The KDA gun fired with a muzzle velocity of 1,440 m/s (4,700 ft/s) and a range of 5.500m, its rate of fire was typically 550 RPM. For the TAM-1, a unique feature from the SPAAG installation was adopted: the gun had two magazines, one with space for 200 rounds and another, smaller one for 50. The magazines could be filled with different types of ammunition, and the pilot was able select between them with a simple switch, adapting to the combat situation. Typical ammunition types were armor-piercing FAPDS rounds against hardened ground targets like tanks, and high explosive shells against soft ground targets and aircraft or helicopters, in a 3:1 ratio. Other ammunition types were available, too, and only 200 rounds were typically carried for balance reasons.
The TAM-1’s avionics included a SAGEM ULISS 81 INS, a Thomson-CSF VE-110 HUD, a TMV630 laser rangefinder in a modified nose and a TRT AHV 9 radio altimeter, with all avionics linked through a digital MIL-STD-1553B data bus and a modern “glass cockpit”. A HUD was standard, but an Elbit Systems DASH III HMD could be used by the pilot, too. The DASH GEN III was a wholly embedded design, closely integrated with the aircraft's weapon system, where the complete optical and position sensing coil package was built within the helmet (either the USAF standard HGU-55/P or the Israeli standard HGU-22/P), using a spherical visor to provide a collimated image to the pilot. A quick-disconnect wire powered the display and carried video drive signals to the helmet's Cathode Ray Tube (CRT).
The TAM-1’s development was long and protracted, though, primarily due to lack of resources and the fact that the Georgian air force was in an almost comatose state for several years, so that the potential prime customer for the TAM-1 was not officially available. However, the first TAM-1 prototype eventually made its maiden flight in September 2017. This was just in time, because the Georgian Air Force had formally been re-established in 2016, with plans for a major modernization and procurement program. Under the leadership of Georgian Minister of Defense Irakli Garibashvili the Air Force was re-prioritized and aircraft owned by the Georgian Air Force were being modernized and re-serviced after they were left abandoned for 4 years. This program lasted until 2020. In order to become more independent from foreign sources and support its domestic aircraft industry, the Georgian Air Force eventually ordered eight TAM-1s as Su-25K replacements, which would operate alongside a handful of modernized Su-25KMs from national stock. In the meantime, the new type also attained interest from abroad, e. g. from Bulgaria, the Congo and Cyprus. The IDF thoroughly tested two early production TAM-1s of the Georgian Air Force in 2018, too.

The kit and its assembly:
This rather rigorous conversion had been on my project list for many years, and with the “Gunships” group build at whatifmodellers.com in late 2021 I eventually gathered my mojo to tackle it. The ingredients had already been procured long ago, but there are ideas that make you think twice before you take action…
This build was somewhat inspired by a CG rendition of a modified Su-25 that I came across while doing online search for potential ideas, running under the moniker “Su-125”, apparently created by someone called “Bispro” and published at DeviantArt in 2010; check this: (www.deviantart.com/bispro/art/Sukhoi-Su-125-Foghorn-15043...). The rendition shows a Su-25 with its engines re-located to the rear fuselage in separate nacelles, much like an A-10, plus a T-tail. However, as many photoshopped aircraft, the shown concept had IMHO some flaws. Where would a landing gear go, as the Su-125 still had shoulder wings? The engines’ position and size also looked fishy to me, quite small/narrow and very far high and back – I had doubts concerning the center of gravity. Nevertheless, I liked the idea, and the idea of an “A-10-esque remix” of the classic Frogfoot was born.
This idea was fueled even further when I found out that the Hobbycraft kit lends itself to such a conversion. The kit itself is not a brilliant Su-25 rendition, there are certainly better models of the aircraft in 1:72. However, what spoke for the kit as whiffing fodder was/is the fact that it is quite cheap (righteously so!) and AFAIK the only offering that comes with separate engine nacelles. These are attached to a completely independent central fuselage, and this avoids massive bodywork that would be necessary (if possible at all) with more conventional kits of this aircraft.
Another beneficial design feature is that the wing roots are an integral part of the original engine nacelles, forming their top side up to the fuselage spine. Through this, the original wingspan could be retained even without the nacelles, no wing extension would be necessary to retain the original proportions.
Work started with the central fuselage and the cockpit tub, which received a different (better) armored ejection seat and a pilot figure; the canopy remained unmodified and closed, because representing the model with an open cockpit would have required additional major body work on the spinal area behind the canopy. Inside, a new dashboard (from an Italeri BAe Hawk) was added, too – the original instrument panel is just a flat front bulkhead, there’s no space for the pilot to place the legs underneath the dashboard!
In parallel, the fin underwent major surgery. I initially considered an A-10-ish twin tail, but the Su-25’s high “tail stinger” prevented its implementation: the jet efflux would come very close to the tail surfaces. So, I went for something similar to the “Su-125” layout.
Mounting the OOB stabilizers to the fin was challenging, though. The fin lost its di-electric tip fairing, and it was cut into two sections, so that the tip would become long enough to match the stabilizers. A lucky find in the scrap box was a leftover tail tip from a Matchbox Blackburn Buccaneer, already shortened from a former, stillborn project: it had now the perfect length to take the Su-25 stabilizers! To make it fit on the fin, an 8mm deep section was inserted, in the form of a simple 1.5mm styrene sheet strip. Once dry, the surface was re-built with several PSR layers. Since it would sit further back on the new aircraft’s tail, the stinger with a RHAWS sensor was shortened.
On the fuselage, the attachment points for the wings and the engine nacelles were PSRed away and the front section filled with lots of lead beads, hoping that it would be enough to keep the model’s nose down.
Even though the wings had a proper span for a re-location into a low position, they still needed some attention: at the roots, there’s a ~1cm wide section without sweep (the area which would normally cover the original engine nacelles’ tops). This was mended through triangular 1.5 mm styrene wedges that extended the leading-edge sweep, roughly cut into shape once attached and later PSRed into the wings’ surfaces
The next construction site were the new landing gear attachment points. This had caused some serious headaches – where do you place and stow it? With new, low wings settled, the wings were the only logical place. But the wings were too thin to suitably take the retracted wheels, and, following the idea of a retrofitted existing design, I decided to adopt the A-10’s solution of nacelles into which the landing gear retracts forward, with the wheels still partly showing. This layout option appears quite plausible, since it would be a “graft-on” solution, and it also has the benefit of leaving lots of space for underwing stores, since the hardpoints’ position had to be modified now, too.
I was lucky to have a pair of A-10 landing gear nacelles at hand, left over from a wrecked Matchbox model from childhood time (the parts are probably 35 years old!). They were simply cut out, glued to the Su-25 wings and PSRed into shape. The result looked really good!
At this point I had to decide the model’s overall layout – where to place the wings, the tail and the new engine nacelles. The latter were not 1:72 A-10 transplants. I had some spare engine pods from the aforementioned Matchbox wreck, but these looked too rough and toylike for my taste. They were furthermore too bulky for the Su-25, which is markedly smaller than an A-10, so I had to look elsewhere. As a neat alternative for this project, I had already procured many moons ago a set of 1:144 resin PS-90A engines from a Russian company called “A.M.U.R. Reaver”, originally intended for a Tu-204 airliner or an Il-76 transport aircraft. These turbofan nacelles not only look very much like A-10 nacelles, just a bit smaller and more elegant, they are among the best resin aftermarket parts I have ever encountered: almost no flash, crisp molding, no bubbles, and perfect fit of the parts – WOW!
With these three elements at hand I was able to define the wings’ position, based on the tail, and from that the nacelles’ location, relative to the wings and the fin.
The next challenge: how to attach the new engines to the fuselage? The PS-90A engines came without pylons, so I had to improvise. I eventually found suitable pylons in the form of parts from F-14A underwing missile pylons, left over from an Italeri kit. Some major tailoring was necessary to find a proper position on the nacelles and on the fuselage, and PSRing these parts turned out to be quite difficult because of the tight and labyrinthine space.
When the engines were in place, work shifted towards the model’s underside. The landing gear was fully replaced. I initially wanted to retain the front wheel leg and the main wheels but found that the low wings would not allow a good ground clearance for underwing stores and re-arming the aircraft, a slightly taller solution was necessary. I eventually found a complete landing gear set in the scrap box, even though I am not certain to which aircraft it once belonged? I guess that the front wheel came from a Hasegawa RA-5C Vigilante, while the main gear and the wheels once belonged to an Italeri F-14A, alle struts were slightly shortened. The resulting stance is still a bit stalky, but an A-10 is also quite tall – this is just not so obvious because of the aircraft’s sheer size.
Due to the low wings and the landing gear pods, the Su-25’s hardpoints had to be re-arranged, and this eventually led to a layout very similar to the A-10. I gave the aircraft a pair of pylons inside of the pods, plus three hardpoints under the fuselage, even though all of these would only be used when slim ordnance was carried. I just fitted the outer pair. Outside of the landing gear fairings there would have been enough space for the Frogfoot’s original four outer for pylons, but I found this to be a little too much. So I gave it “just” three, with more space between them.
The respective ordnance is a mix for a CAS mission with dedicated and occasional targets. It consists of:
- Drop tanks under the inner wings (left over from a Bilek Su-17/22 kit)
- A pair of B-8M1 FFAR pods under the fuselage (from a vintage Mastercraft USSR weapon set)
- Two MERs with four 200 kg bombs each, mounted on the pylons outside of the landing gear (the odd MERs came from a Special Hobby IDF SMB-2 Super Mystère kit, the bombs are actually 1:100 USAF 750 lb bombs from a Tamiya F-105 Thunderchief in that scale)
- Four CBU-100 Rockeye Mk. II cluster bombs on the outer stations (from two Italeri USA/NATO weapon sets, each only offers a pair of these)
Yes, it’s a mix of Russian and NATO ordnance – but, like the real Georgian Su-25KM “Scorpion” upgrade, the TAM-1 would certainly be able to carry the same or even a wider mix, thanks to modified bomb racks and wirings. Esp. “dumb” weapons, which do not call for special targeting and guidance avionics, are qualified.
The gun under the nose was replaced with a piece from a hollow steel needle.
Painting and markings:
Nothing unusual here. I considered some more “exotic” options, but eventually settled for a “conservative” Soviet/Russian-style four-tone tactical camouflage, something that “normal” Su-25s would carry, too.
The disruptive pattern was adapted from a Macedonian Frogfoot but underwent some changes due to the T-tail and the engine nacelles. The basic tones were Humbrol 119 (RAF Light Earth), 150 (Forest Green), 195 (Chrome Oxide Green, RAL 6020) and 98 (Chocolate) on the upper surfaces and RLM78 from (Modelmaster #2087) from below, with a relatively low waterline, due to the low-set wings.
As usual, the model received a light black ink washing and some post-shading – especially on the hull and on the fin, where many details had either disappeared under PSR or were simply not there at all.
The landing gear and the lower areas of the cockpit were painted in light grey (Humbrol 64), while the upper cockpit sections were painted with bright turquoise (Modelmaster #2135). The wheel hubs were painted in bright green (Humbrol 101), while some di-electric fairings received a slightly less intense tone (Humbrol 2). A few of these flat fairings on the hull were furthermore created with green decal sheet material (from TL Modellbau) to avoid masking and corrections with paint.
The tactical markings became minimal, matching the look of late Georgian Su-25s. The roundels came from a Balkan Models Frogfoot sheet. The “07” was taken from a Blue Rider decal sheet, it actually belongs to a Lithuanian An-2. Some white stencils from generic MiG-21 and Mi-8 Begemot sheets were added, too, and some small markings were just painted onto the hull with yellow.
Some soot stains around the jet nozzles and the gun were added with graphite, and finally the kit was sealed with a coat of matt acrylic varnish.
A major bodywork project – and it’s weird that this is basically just a conversion of a stock kit and no kitbashing. A true Frogfoot remix! The new engines were the biggest “outsourced” addition, the A-10 landing gear fairings were a lucky find in the scrap box, and the rest is quite generic and could have looked differently. The result is impressive and balanced, though, the fictional TAM-1 looks quite plausible. The landing gear turned out to be a bit tall and stalky, though, making the aircraft look smaller on the ground than it actually is – but I left it that way.

I took my cheapo Nifty Fifty (EF 50mm 1.8II) into the Mansion today and came away with some decent pics of Jack Skellington in the Graveyard...a shot that has eluded me so far with other lenses. I don't care what you say, taking shots in extremely low light from a moving Doom Buggy is TOUGH!
For a $100 lens, this one is pretty hard to beat for cost versus value, especially when coupled with a camera that has expanded high ISO compatibilities.

This is my very first 'Moc'. The idea was to create a building inspired in the Haussmann style present in most of central Paris, without any piece count limit that would keep the modular compatibility and the minifig scale. So this is not a direct replica of any particular one. The street name is also fictional, there is no 'Boulevard des Lumières' in Paris, but its spirit is highly Parisian.
"Lower your gun Sal." said the man putting his hand on the womans shoulder. Scowling, she obliged. "Now, if we can all just calm down for a minute" he continued "You can put your hands down"
Jackie and Frank lowered their hands, a tinge of embarrassment in their movements. "W...who are you?" Jackie asked.
The man looked at the woman, Sal. She nodded. "We're a retrieval team. I'm Paul, and this is Sal. And who might you be?" Jackie opened her mouth to answer but the Doctor cut in. "Us?, we're just humble inspectors, inspecting this...base." He raised his psychic paper to show them. "It's all down on there."
"That's funny" said Sal, suspicion in her voice. "This base hasn't been much in need of inspection. Not since it was abandoned a year ago." She glared at them "Who are you really?"
The Doctor was taken aback. Abandoned? That couldn't be right. Had he got the year wrong? This was supposed to be the height of human space exploration, it should have been a buzzing hub, swarming with explorers and the like. 'No need to panic' he thought 'Plan B it is'
"Ok, fine" he sighed "we're tourists. Just a trio of harmless tourists". Jackie rolled her eyes. 'Like they'll believe that' she thought.
"Ah" sighed Paul "That would explain it. Command reported a unexplained transport pod about a half hour ago." He raised his wrist and pressed some buttons. Sal raised her hand to her mouth "You're not seriously going to take them back to the ship" she hissed. "What else are we gonna do Sal?" he replied "If we let them wander the base alone, who knows what they could discover"
"Fine". She agreed, begrudgingly. This was not the mission. "We'll take you back to our ship and contact someone to pick you up."
"Marvellous" the Doctor said, rubbing his hands together. "Shall we?" Paul said, setting off.

Ana’s question went unanswered. Amir only stared at the surface of the river.
The edge of the cloth around the body fluttered, revealing half of a man’s face—pale, rigid, and yet retaining an expression that was almost serene. So still that it was as if he were still adrift in a dream.
Professor Zakaria Haddad—
It would be some time yet before Ana learned that this was his name.
“Don’t move! Hands behind your head! Lie face down!”
The sharp, cracking voice tore through the tranquil air of the park.
From deep within the park, uniformed officers came running down the gentle slope of the grass. Some stopped, aiming their weapons in this direction, their gaze fixed squarely on Amir.
Unruffled, Amir quietly crouched beside Nadia.
“Nadia, here—keep this for me.”
He held out the sketch from earlier.
A half-open door, a curtained window, a house veiled in shadow.
Nadia’s eyes widened as she looked at him.
“Why…?”
“Because it’s not over yet.”
With that, Amir rose slowly to his feet. His gentle smile shifted, replaced by a cool, detached stare directed at the officers.
“Amir! What are you—” Ana began, moving toward him, but he glanced back briefly.
“Thank you, Ana. I could only come here because you were here.”
Those words slipped into the wind, and then he ran—kicking through the reeds, sliding over the grass, vaulting a handrail, and vanishing toward the skate park beyond.
“Cut him off! Don’t let him get away!”
Officers shouted into their radios, some breaking into a sprint.
Instinctively, Ana spread her arms as if to shield the children.
In a small voice, Nadia murmured,
“…Why is he leaving…?”
The scent of the wind shifted.
Interwoven with the river’s smell was a faint breath of damp air, drifting up from underground. Beyond it, in the construction zone between the park and the redevelopment area, a rusted iron hatch just beyond the chain-link fence eased shut with a metallic clank. When one of the pursuing officers reached the spot, all that remained were the footprints on the ground and the slightly ajar hatch.
The stench of sewage, the tang of rusted metal. A faint sound of water.
And as Amir’s shadow slipped—quietly, but unmistakably—into the depths beneath the city, the first explosion erupted far below the Domino Sugar Refinery.
The blast tore through the silence, sending a tremor rumbling outward. Ancient brick walls cracked with a sharp report. A vast plume of smoke and dust rose at once, rattling windowpanes until they burst, scattering shards in every direction. Steel beams groaned, and walls bereft of support sagged before slowly giving way. The heavy building’s collapse, steeped in history, sounded like the groan of a giant waking from a centuries-long slumber.
A few minutes earlier, a small helicopter carrying a local news crew had been flying south along the Brooklyn waterfront. The river’s surface quivered faintly; the city was not yet fully awake. Morning shadows lay neatly arrayed between the rooftops, while a line of birds traced the sky. Below, life seemed nothing but tranquil.
Off the port side, toward the low sky above Kent Avenue, a sudden pillar of white smoke rose.
“…Hold on, there’s smoke…” The female reporter’s voice wavered in the headset as the pilot tilted the aircraft. The camera’s zoom found the plume just as the refinery’s roof trembled—lifting slightly with the blast of dust—while the old brick walls split with a vicious crack. Steel beams bowed; glass burst upward into the sky like a flurry of snow.
The roar shook the air, its vibration spreading in ripples from deep within the ground. The sheer mass and sluggish surrender of the collapsing structure could be felt even through sight alone.
Peering into the viewfinder, the reporter let out a small gasp. The pilot banked gently, bringing the frame closer to the smoke.
“…Viewers, there has just been a major explosion here on the Brooklyn waterfront. The smoke is… spreading rapidly.” Her voice, caught between shock and tension, quickened as it chased the unfolding scene. The camera stayed locked on the details—the fractures in the brick, the bending of steel, the moment the glass disintegrated into powdery shards.
And before she could finish her commentary, another column of smoke erupted in the far right of the frame—this time about four miles inland, at 316 Rutledge Street Tower, just east of Broadway.
The skeletal frame of the nearly completed high-rise shook violently, sparks bursting from its joints. Concrete floor slabs sheared layer by layer, the force of their collapse cascading downward in a chain reaction. Even from above, one could see the building’s form being pulled apart by gravity.
“…This is… another building. I believe this is the Rutledge Street Tower, farther inland in Brooklyn. A second… explosion.”
The helicopter’s camera swung toward it, catching the exact moment the frame shuddered and the joints spat fire. Concrete floors pancaked, the destruction leaping from level to level in plain view from the aerial shot.
The reporter drew in her breath. “…This is a coordinated—multiple—” She bit off the rest, for a third plume was already piercing the pale morning sky.
“…A third one. North along Kent Avenue… near Wythe, perhaps? A new residential building…”
Through the zoom, brand-new windows shattered in unison, scattering bright fragments into the sunlight. Interior staircases collapsed as if seized by the wind, the framework gradually losing its shape.
The smoke soon blanketed the city, drifting out over the river. A gray curtain, its edges tinged gold by the sun, wavered in the air. Brooklyn’s colors seemed to drain away, centered on three circles of ruin.
“…The dust is… covering the city. This is…” Her voice rasped, the ending trembling. The camera showed Brooklyn’s waterfront wrapped in smoke, which spread slowly over the river, haloed faintly in gold by the sun.
“…We’re bringing you the scene as it unfolds… but this is no accidental fire. Three incidents at once—clearly intentional—” She cut herself off, quickly amending, “Details remain unclear,” because the male crew member beside her had shaken his head.
On the ground, patrons at a café along Kent Avenue had first only craned their necks to see the smoke. Fingers around coffee cups began to stiffen; smiles faded. Then came the deep bass resonance, vibrating through walls and floors, followed by a delayed tremor that traveled up their spines—at which point chairs toppled and people began to run. Glass crunched underfoot. Around the corner, reddish dust curled like a living thing, swallowing the shadows of utility poles. Coughs, children crying, hands raised with smartphones. Sirens swelled from several directions, and people scattered as though chased by the sound.
In the Manhattan newsroom, breaking-news banners flashed red, the helicopter feed filling the screen behind the anchor desk. Collapsing brick, twisting steel, glass glittering in the sun—all played again and again in slow motion, pressing the studio air heavier with each loop.
“This is clearly planned—” a male commentator began, but the anchor interjected, “We cannot confirm that yet.” Views from ground and air overlapped, burning into the viewers’ eyes the image of a city drowned in smoke.
Meanwhile, on a quiet pier on the Manhattan side, Rafi stood alone. The river was smooth as a mirror, but across the water, the skyline was losing its shape in slow motion. The distant explosions reached him like thunder in the chest, the scent of metal and cordite carried on the wind. Narrowing his eyes, he watched the crumbling city as though it were a single painting.
In the depths of his mind, another city rose—the streets of his hometown, long since buried in rubble. Charred stone walls, the scent of blood, a sky blurred with dust. The roar of bombing in Gaza had always been paired with the strange stillness that followed. In that moment when cries went silent and only the wind remained—
That silence had stolen back into his ears now.
The three buildings were performing, almost in unison, an architecture of collapse.
The roar cleaved the city’s quiet, as if to declare the beginning of Rafi’s revenge. Standing in the cold wind, he savored the way past memories and present plans intertwined. The smell of dust and smoke called forth old pain. Anger and calculation, held deep in his chest, seemed to breathe in the same rhythm.

「……あれ、何？」
アナの問いにアミールは返事をせず、ただ川面を凝視した。
遺体の布の端がひるがえり、男の片頬がのぞいた。
青白く、硬直し、しかしどこか穏やかな表情すら残している。あまりに静かで、まるでまだ夢のなかにいるようだった。
教授、ザカリア・ハッダード──
それが彼の名前だったのだと、アナが知るのは、まだ少し先のことだ。
「動くな！ 両手を頭の後ろに回してうつ伏せ！」
鋭い、割れるような声が、穏やかな公園の空気を裂いた。
公園の奥から制服姿の警官たちが、芝生の緩やかな斜面を駆け下りてくる。何人かは立ち止まって、こちらへ銃口を向けている。視線はアミール、一点に注がれていた。
アミールは動じることなく、そっとナディアの隣にしゃがみ込んだ。
「ナディア、これ──君が持ってて」
彼は、さきほどのスケッチを差し出した。
半開きの扉、カーテンのかかった窓、影のある家。
ナディアは目を丸くし、彼の顔を見た。
「どうして……？」
「まだ、全部終わってないから」
そう言うと、アミールは静かに立ち上がった。優しい笑みを切り替え、冷めた視線を警官らへ向けた。
「アミール！ なにを──」
アナが駆け寄ろうとしたとき、彼は短く振り返った。
「ありがとう、アナ。君がいたから、ここに来られた」
その言葉が風に混じると、彼は駆け出した。
葦を蹴り、芝を滑り、手すりを越えて奥のスケートパークへ向かって消えてゆく。
「囲め！ 逃がすな！」
警官たちが無線で叫び、何人かが走り出す。
アナは思わず子どもたちの前に立ちはだかるように手を広げた。
ナディアが、小さな声でつぶやいた。
「……どうして、行くの……？」
風の匂いが変わった。
川の匂いに混じって、地下から湿った空気がかすかに流れてきた。その先、公園と再開発エリアのあいだにある工事用の金網の奥、錆びた鉄板のふたが、わずかに開かれ、カタンと音を立てて閉じるのが見えた。追いかけた警官の一人がその場所にたどり着いたとき、地面に残された靴跡と、かすかに開いた蓋だけが残されていた。
下水の異臭と錆びた鉄の匂い。微かな水音。
アミールの影が、静かに、けれど確かにこの街の地下へと吸い込まれていくのと同時に、静寂を破るようにして、最初の爆発がドミノ・シュガー・リファイナリーの地下深くで炸裂した。轟音と共に地響きが広がり、古びたレンガ造りの壁が音を立てて割れ始める。巨大な煙と粉塵が一気に立ち上り、窓ガラスがビリビリと震え、破片が辺りに散らばった。鉄骨の梁が軋み、支えを失った壁がゆっくりと崩れ落ちていく。重厚な建物が、歴史とともに音を立てて崩れていく様は、まるで長い眠りから目覚めた巨人の呻きのようだった。
そのわずか数分前、ブルックリンの川沿いを、地域情報番組の撮影クルーを乗せた小型ヘリが南下していた。川面は薄く揺らぎ、街はまだ目覚めきらない。屋根と屋根のあいだに溜まった朝の影が規則正しく並び、空には鳥が一筋の軌跡を描いていた。その下にある生活の気配は、どこまでも穏やかに見えた。
機体の左側、遠くケントアヴェニュー方面の低い空に、ふっと白い煙柱が立ち上がった。
「……ちょっと待って、今、煙が……」
女性レポーターの声がヘッドセット越しに揺れ、操縦士が軽く機体を傾ける。カメラのズームが煙を捉えた瞬間、ドミノ・シュガー・リファイナリーの屋根が、粉塵の噴き上がりとともにわずかに持ち上がるように震え、古びたレンガの壁が音も鋭く裂けていく。鉄骨の梁が軋み、窓ガラスが粉雪のように空へ散っていった。
轟音は空気を震わせ、地面の奥から波紋のように広がった。建物が崩れていく姿からその重さと鈍さが視覚にも伝わってくる。
カメラのファインダーを覗いていた女性レポーターが、息を飲むように声を漏らす。操縦士が小さく機体を傾け、画面がゆっくりと煙の方向へ寄っていく。
「……視聴者の皆さん、今、ブルックリンのウォーターフロントで……大きな爆発が起きたようです。煙が……すごい勢いで広がっています」
彼女の声は、驚きと緊張が入り混じって、言葉を追いかけるように少し速くなった。カメラはその場面を逃さず追い、レンガ壁の亀裂、鉄骨が弓のようにしなる様子、窓ガラスが粉雪のように散っていく瞬間まで、克明に捉えていく。
そしてまだ彼女が説明を終えぬうちに、画面の右奥で、もう一筋の白煙が爆ぜるように立ち上った。ケントアヴェニューからブロードウェイを東へ４マイルほど進んだ３１６ルートレッジ・ストリート・タワーで、二度目の爆発が起きた。まだ完成間近の鉄骨の骨組みが大きく揺れ、接合部から火花が散る。コンクリートの床板が層ごとに割れ、崩壊の衝撃が階層を伝って連鎖的に広がっていく。空から見ても、重力に引きずられるように形が失われていくのがわかる。
「……ええと、今度は別の建物です。場所は……こちら、ブルックリンの内陸側、ルートレッジ・ストリート・タワーと思われます。二つ目の……爆発です」
ヘリのカメラが慌ただしく方向を切り替え、まだ完成間近の高層ビルの骨組みが大きく揺れ、接合部から火花が散る瞬間を捉える。
コンクリートの床板が層ごとに崩れ落ち、その衝撃が階層を伝って連鎖的に破壊を広げていく様が、空撮の俯瞰からもはっきり見えた。
女性レポーターは息を呑み、
「……これは、連続した何かです。同時に、複数の……」と言いかけ、続けようとした言葉をさらに飲み込んだ。
なぜなら三つ目の煙が、まだ薄青い朝の空に突き刺すように昇り始めたからだ。
「……三つ目です。ケントアヴェニューを北に……あれはワイス・アベニュー付近でしょうか、新しい住宅ビルが……」
ズームの奥で、新築の窓ガラスが一斉に砕け、陽光を反射しながら細かな破片となって舞い上がる。
内部の階段が風にさらわれたように崩れ、骨組みがしだいに形を失っていく。
煙はやがて街を覆い、川面へも流れ込んだ。太陽の光を透かした灰色の幕が、黄金色の縁を帯びながらゆらめく。ブルックリンは三つの爆心を中心に、まるで巨大な円が重なり合うように色を失っていった。
「……粉塵が……街を覆っていきます。これは……」彼女の声がかすれ、語尾が震えた。
カメラ越しに見えるブルックリンの一帯は、三つの崩壊現場を中心に煙幕に包まれ、その煙はゆっくりと川面へも流れ込み、太陽の光を透かしながら、ぼんやりと黄金色の縁を帯びている。
「……現場の様子をお伝えしていますが……これは偶発的な火災ではありません。同時に三つ……明らかに何らかの意図が……」と彼女は言いかけ、すぐに「詳細はまだ不明です」と言葉を修正した。同乗していた男性クルーが首を横に振っていたからだ。
地上では、ケントアヴェニュー沿いのカフェの外席でコーヒーを飲んでいた人々が、最初はただ首を伸ばし、煙の方向を見ていた。カップを持つ指先が徐々に強張り、唇から笑みが消えていく。やがて重低音の余韻が壁や床を震わせ、遅れて届く揺れが背骨を伝った瞬間、椅子を倒して走り出す者が現れた。ガラス片が靴底で砕かれ、乾いた音を立てる。角を曲がれば、赤茶色の粉塵が生き物のように渦を巻き、電柱の影を飲み込んでいく。咳き込む声、泣き出す子ども、スマートフォンを掲げる手。サイレンが複数の方向から近づき、その音に追われるように人々は散っていった。
マンハッタンのニュース局では、速報テロップが赤く点滅し、背後の大型スクリーンにヘリの映像が映し出されていた。
崩れ落ちるレンガ、ねじ曲がる鉄骨、陽光を浴びて舞うガラス片――それらがスローモーションで繰り返されるたび、スタジオの空気はさらに重くなる。男性コメンテーターが「これは明らかに計画的な……」と呟くが、キャスターは「情報はまだ不確かです」と言葉を差し挟む。地上と空からの視点が重なり、視聴者の網膜に煙に沈む街並みが焼き付いていく。
その頃、マンハッタン側の静かな埠頭には、ラフィが立っていた。川面は鏡のように穏やかだが、対岸の街では煙がゆっくりと輪郭を崩していく。遠くの爆発音は雷鳴のように胸に届き、鉄と硝
煙の匂いが風に乗って漂ってくる。ラフィは目を細め、崩れゆく街並みをひとつの絵画のように見つめ続けた。
彼の胸の奥には、別の街の光景が重なっていた。かつて瓦礫に沈んだ故郷の通り。焼けた石壁、血の匂い、粉塵でかすむ空。ガザで聞いた爆撃の轟音は、いつもその後に訪れる異様な静寂と対になっていた。人々の叫びが途切れ、風の音だけが残るあの瞬間――その沈黙が、今また耳に忍び込んでくる。
三つの建物は、ほぼ同時に崩壊の美学を演じていた。
轟音は街の静けさを断ち切り、ラフィの復讐の始まりを告げたようだった。彼は冷たい風に吹かれながら、過去の記憶と今の計画が交錯する感覚を噛みしめていた。瓦礫と煙の匂いが、かつての痛みを呼び覚ます。胸に秘めた怒りと冷静な計算が、同じテンポで呼吸しているようだった。

Viking Princess berthed at Pocra Quay overlooks the Square at Footdee .
Viking Princess is a liquefied natural gas (LNG)-driven multipurpose offshore vessel owned by Eidesvik Supply and operated by Eidesvik. She was delivered in September 2012 and is the sister ship to Viking Prince, which started sailing in March 2012.
Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven Maritime won a $77.28m (NOK440m) contract by Eidesvik back in July 2010 to build the two sister ships. The keel of the second vessel, Viking Princess, was laid in October 2011 in Kleven Maritime’s yard at Ulsteinvik, Ulstein, Norway. The vessel’s hull was launched in April 2012.
Viking Princess was officially christened by Mette-Marit, the Crown Princess of Norway, on 14 September 2012 in Bergen, Hordaland, Norway.
The vessel is of VS 489 Gas PSV design developed by Wärtsilä Ship Design and is built to DNV class 1A1 ICE-C Supply Vessel, Standby Vessel(S), Oil Rec, Gas Fuelled, and other notations.
Prominent features of the vessel include fuel economy, low emissions, large cargo capacity, oil recovery equipment and capacity for standby. Winterisation and de-icing solutions make her suitable for operations in ice and cold environments.
The vessel’s dual fuel engines allow her to operate on gas as well as heavy fuel oil (HFO) and marine diesel oil (MDO). It is only during LNG bunkering that the vessel uses diesel. The use of LNG will reduce NOx and CO2 emissions by 85% and 25% respectively.
Viking Princess has a gross tonnage of 5,014t and a dead weight of 5,800t. Her overall length, moulded breadth and summer draught are 89.6m, 21m and 7.6m respectively. Length between perpendiculars is 79.2m, while depth to main deck is 9.6m. Cargo deck area of the vessel is 1,050m2 and the height of the cargo rail is 4m.
Accommodation and facilities onboard the Viking Princess
The PSV can provide permanent accommodation for a total of 28 persons. It has four cabin states, 12 one-man cabins and six two-man cabins. All of them are provided with toilet and shower facilities.
Facilities on-board include a no-smokers room, smokers room, laundry and gymnasium. The vessel also has an office and a hospital.
Tank storage capacity and discharge rates
Storage capacities of tanks onboard the Viking Princess are 823m3 of fuel oil, 1,036m3 of fresh water, 1,781m3 of drill water/ballast, 1,392m3 of liquid mud, 210m3 of methanol, 300m3 of dry bulk, 1,667m3 of brine and 243m3 of base oil. The LNG tank can store 233m3.
The discharge rate of fuel oil, fresh water, drill water/ballast and base oil is 150m3/hr per pump. Liquid mud and base oil can be discharged at the rate of 100m3/hr per pump, while methanol and special products can be discharged at the rate of 75m3/hr per pump.
Tank washing is done with hot and cold water. Tanks containing mud, brine and base oil are washed with chemical blended water. All types of liquid cargo on-board the vessel are handled by separate pumps and piping system.
Viking Princess deck equipment
Viking Princess is fitted with two Adria tugger winches and two Adria mooring winches. An Adria anchor / mooring winch is installed forward. There are also two harbour mobile cranes (HMCs), each of which can lift 5t at a 15m outreach.
Viking Princess manoeuvring, navigation and communication systems
The PSV is provided with an integrated manoeuvring, dynamic positioning (DP) and vessel management system. Kongsberg has supplied its K-POS DP-22 DP system and K-Master manoeuvring system for the vessel. Wärtsilä Automation supplied the vessel management system comprising cargo handling and alarm.
The PSV can provide permanent accommodation for a total of 28 persons.
Navigation solution includes three gyrocompasses and an autopilot from Anschutz, two marine radars (3cm and 10cm) with automatic radar plotting aid (ARPA) capability, an FA-150 automatic identification system (AIS), an electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) and a FE-700 echo sounder. It also includes a DS-80 Doppler log and NX – 700B Navigational Telex (Navtex) from Furuno, a Taiyo VHF direction finder and Gill Ultrasonic wind sensor.
For communication, the vessel is supplied with Furuno, Motorola and Thon-made UHF/VHF stationary and portable radio telephones. These include MF/HF. FS-1570 radio plants, two FM-8800S VHF all-in-one marine VHF radio telephones, three FM-2721 VHF radio telephones, three GM-360 mobile radios, a Thon TR 20 portable radio phone, a GP340 VHF portable radio, and a GM380 stationary radio.
Other notable communication instruments include two Sea Tel 6009 VSAT antennae, two Furuno Felcom 15 InMarSat-Cs with GMDSS compatibility, a Tron 40 S and a Tron 45 SX emergency position indicating radio beacons (EPIRBs), and two Tron SART radar transponders.
Viking Princess machinery and propulsion
Viking Princess is equipped with Wärtsilä’s gas electric propulsion system featuring the low loss voncept (LLC). Instead of four main engines, the vessel is outfitted with two large and two small dual-fuel engines. The larger ones are six-cylinder in-line 34DF engines, each rated at 2,610kW. The smaller ones are six-cylinder 20DF engines, each rated at 1,056kW. Each of them is driven by Alconza main generators (2 x 2,510kW and 2 x1,014kW).
Emergency generator sets include a Volvo Penta D12 engine of 339kW capacity and a Stamford generator of 375kVA.
Propulsion is provided by two Steerprop Sp 35 CRP azimuth propellers, each of 2,450kW. A set of two Brunvoll bow thrusters, each of 1,000kW, and an azimuth thruster of 880kW allow the vessel to manoeuvre smoothly.

Leroy Setziol had his studio on a farm in the hills of the Yamhill Valley near where we used to live. One misty autumn day I visited him in his studio during an open house and was privileged to see his works in progress.
Several years later, I bought one of his pieces. While it relativey minor in comparison to this splendid work, I have always treasured it.
The Portland Art Museum has this to say about Setziol:
[Leroy Setziol was a} composer in wood. The lyrical quality of Leroy Setziol's sculpture honors the beauty of a material that is strongly ident if ied with the Northwest. The natural blemishes and flowing woodgrain of the black walnut, teak, yellow cedar. fir and other woods he employed enhanced his complex gridded compositions, while the warm finish of the oiled surfaces brought them to life.
Setziol did not make preliminary sketches; instead he would visualize his compositions using the grid as an armature to frame the imaginative abstract shapes that embellished his works. He would draw directly on the wood making spontaneous changes-realizing the final design through the very physical act of carving.
A self-taught , intuitive worker, throughout his career he employed imagery that was both representational and purely abstract and his sculpture ranged from tiny intimate works to large-scale public commissions.
Setziol's sculpture gained greater recognition with Portland's architectural community in 1964 when he was invited by Northwest Regionalist architect, John Storrs, to carve a series of large-scale relief panels for Salishan Lodge in Gleneden Beach. Oregon.
Recognized for the commission's fine quality and compatibility with mid-century modernist architecture, Setziol was subsequently invited by many of Oregon's leading architects to collaborate on commissioned projects including: the University of Portland Chapel, architect Pietro Belluschi; Pacific Northwest Forestry Lab, Corvallis, Oregon, architect A.P. Di Benedetto; and Northwest Natural Gas Company, architects: Campbell, Yost, Grube.
Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Buffalo, New York, Setziol earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Elmhurst College in Illinois in 1938. In 1941 he received a Bachelor of Divinity and became a minister, serving as an army chaplain in the South Pacific during World War II.
After the war, he resumed duties as a Presbyterian minister and studied voice and philosophy at the Peabody Institute and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He re-enlisted in the army in 1950, but when his wife of eleven years, Ruth, began teaching in Portland, Oregon in 1951, he left the military to join her. In 1952, Setziol began carving and by 1955 had his first one-man show Marylhurst College {now Marylhurst University) in Oregon.
