General note: In this film, Wayne Ferris talks to Senator George Smathers about his trip to Latin America. Most of the program deals with the communist threat to the Latin American region. The show is comprised primarily of footage shot during Smathers' trip to various locations in the Caribbean and South America. Scenes include: riots in Panama over control of the Canal Zone, and footage of Fidel Castro shaking his fist and meeting with Russian leader, Anastas Mikoyan. Later, there is footage of an interview by Miami reporter, Dick Lobo, with Generalissimo, Raphael Trujillo, of the Dominican Republic. The segment on Venezuela includes 1958 footage of Vice President Richard Nixon's motorcade being stoned by angry protesters. There are a few brief scenes of Smathers meeting with Venezuelan President Bettencourt. There are brief shots of Haiti and Puerto Rico, including Smathers' meeting with the Haitian President. Senator Smathers comments that student exchange programs may improve relations with Latin America. Mr. Ferris closes the program with recommendations, such as: price stabilization measures; mineral quotas; market subsidies; and improved foreign aid. Produced by WCKT of Miami.

A little bittersweet bidding her farewell ... it always makes me a little sad to say goodbye! But I know she'll have a great time and I hope that everyone who gets to host and meet her has an amazing time, too! ♥

Taken in Salcombe on the last day of July. Plenty of these in our increasing warm coastal waters. I even managed a sea swim 2 days in a row last week. Unheard of for me! Then I saw a few of these and just stayed knee deep !

Today was my first real outing with the 5DmkII and 17-40L. Loving the full frame so far, but still have to get used to the difference it makes in depth of field.
The next round of Project Spectrum is set and ready to go! I am so excited to introduce the new theme. Based on the compass rose and the cardinal directions, we will explore the colors that are traditionally associated with the points on the compass.
This year, we will base the exploration around FOUR colors - one for each direction - and participants can combine and mix these colors with any other color. Each direction is also traditionally linked to a natural material, and you can choose to work with these materials for your projects, e.g. glass beads, wooden buttons, metal pins, etc. For deeper interpretation, you can also choose to incorporate the related seasons and elements into your creative projects.
NORTH (March/April)
Color: Green
Material: Stones/Gems/Rocks
Season: Winter
Element: Earth
EAST (May/June)

Season: Spring

SOUTH (July/August)

Element: Fire
WEST (September/October)
