Sayram Lake

The lake is also known as Santai Haizi and is the largest (458 kmÂČ) alpine lake in Xinjiang and also the highest at 2,070 m.

My husband took the day off. We decided to pack the truck and do the circuit through Jasper, the Icefields and then onto Abraham Lake. It is about a thirteen hour drive but every turn and twist on the road leads to another photo op and, yet, another adventure.

We took Jager, my German Shepherd. She is a wonderful companion. She is always ready to go!

I find the mountains are a challenge to put into the camera - to try to duplicate the 'Ahaa' moment that you feel as you stand in awe is a talent I have not mastered yet.

How can you interpret or communicate the grandeur and the intense enormity of a mountain that stands hovering over you into a tiny camera? It is humbling.

This photo was taken very early in the morning - the beginning of our adventure. I was driving on the highway. I was completely transfixed and elated with the sunrise that was transpiring to the left of me. I finally couldn't dismiss it any longer, so I pulled off the highway and found a desolate country road. I needed to get this photo! .

The mountains are a privilege, but to stand alive, under an open sky and bathe in the beauty of another day is a gift...

Any contacts that know where this truck is, will be pleased to know it has company.

Nice old Firetruck nearby also.

This was taken last week. Very little snow here.

I heard from a contact that I had not heard from in sometime, and she is doing well. Very happy about that.

I do miss seeing you all here like Family (when some of the family is not here)

Happy Truck tHuRsDay

Thank you to everyone who views, faves or comments on my photos, it is always appreciated.

Watching for worms and any other tasty morsels that might be disturbed when I'm gardening, especially when I'm digging the soil. Sometimes, one will fly right down beside me to capture what it has spotted.

Feisty and plucky birds they are. Synonymous with life here in Australia and I love them so.

Often times a group of them in the nearby trees will let rip with their famous call. A call to establish territory between family groups.

And even now after all these years, it will stop me in my tracks; the sheer volume and ruckus they make. And I smile as I look up at the noisy party with their heads thrown back bringing forth their glorious Antipodean vocal expression.

Although it's said that Herons don't mate for life, and I believe that to be so, I have seen a couple of herons together in the same place since early Spring. Hey, odder things have happened and it is...2020, almost anything can happen.

Dogs have played an important role in the history of human civilization and were among the first domesticated animals. They were important in hunter-gatherer societies as hunting allies and bodyguards against predators. When livestock were domesticated about 7,000 to 9,000 years ago.

The timing and location of dog domestication is a matter of debate. There is strong genetic evidence, however, that the first domestication events occurred somewhere in northern Eurasia between 14,000 and 29,000 years ago.

Today dogs are employed as guides for the blind and disabled or for police work. Dogs are even used in therapy in nursing homes and hospitals to encourage patients toward recovery. Humans have bred a wide range of different dogs adapted to serve a variety of functions.

And I think to myself... What a wonderful world.

Taken at Elmira

So I was at Wharf 2 (aka Pier 2), Walsh Bay, on Sunday afternoon & evening, 26th May, 2024. I climbed up the fire stairs at the northern, harbourside, end of the wharf where there is a little platform - from which I take many of my harbour sunset photographs.

This bird (as pictured above) arrives shortly after I got there, and stayed the entire time I was there - and I stayed into the early night-time to get the Vivid Sydney colours on the western, Walsh Bay, side of the bridge.

How absolutely bizarre!! So I talked to it (even more bizarre, lol) and moved quite close to it, inferring it might like to get out of the way of the photos. But belligerently it did not move!!

I have since consulted my 'Complete Guide To Australian Birds' (by George Adams) where, on page 95, it looks like a White-faced Heron.

But I am not an expert, lol. In any event, I am calling it 'The Friendly Heron'.

The sun was breaking through heavy mist, while my companion and I silently took in the opposite shore.

I was alone that day. but in the mist I sort of see a mystery companion......
