This sprinkle of cosmic glitter is a blue compact dwarf galaxy known as Markarian 209. Galaxies of this type are blue-hued, compact in size, gas-rich, and low in heavy elements. They are often used by astronomers to study star formation, as their conditions are similar to those thought to exist in the early Universe. Markarian 209 in particular has been studied extensively. It is filled with diffuse gas and peppered with star-forming regions towards its core. This image captures it undergoing a particularly dramatic burst of star formation, visible as the lighter blue cloudy region towards the top right of the galaxy. This clump is filled with very young and hot newborn stars. This galaxy was initially thought to be a young galaxy undergoing its very first episode of star formation, but later research showed that Markarian 209 is actually very old, with an almost continuous history of forming new stars. It is thought to have never had a dormant period — a period during which no stars were formed — lasting longer than 100 million years. The dominant population of stars in Markarian 209 is still quite young, in stellar terms, with ages of under 3 million years. For comparison, the Sun is some 4.6 billion years old, and is roughly halfway through its expected lifespan. The observations used to make this image were taken using Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 and Advanced Camera for Surveys, and span the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared parts of the spectrum. A scattering of other bright galaxies can be seen across the frame, including the bright golden oval that could, due to a trick of perspective, be mistaken as part of Markarian 209 but is in fact a background galaxy. Another awsome Sport Compact event at WSID.Loads of cars made the trek from all over Aus to compete.Almost capacity entries on the track & a great selection of hot cars on show.
The presentation standard of Sport Compact drag cars has really amazed me so far this year, with a lot of the top runner track cars looking like prestine show cars with candy pearl paint jobs,tastefull air brushing and graffix and tuff drag spec rims all round. these guys have definatly stepped it up a notch!
Took a whole lot of photo's throughout the day, but unfortunatly forgot my memory backup so was limited to 4G worth of space...Ahhhrr.

You know those days where all you want to do is just be far, far away from the world because you feel like no one can just understand?
It sounds a little angsty, but bah! Just need to get away. Little things annoy me easily and people just get on my nerves.
Humanity can be a little confusing sometimes. You try to put some faith in it, but you eventually get disappointed.
Trying to stay positive, but it's difficult when so many things are just pushing you down.

Going to be a busy week. So many papers.
Lovely silver tone vintage powder and rouge compact with a bar link chain dating from the 1920's. The compact has an etched and painted Art Deco design with the initials "SCL" engraved. The hinged lid opens to show a loose powder section with a rotating lid, a rouge section and a miniature lipstick tube. There may have been a mirror but it has since been lost to time.
This dainty compact would be a thoughtful gift for someone who collects compacts or enjoys Art Deco design.

My compact mirror Andrew brought back from Europe after his back packing treck. He knew I love owls and this is very special to me.
