The first commercially manufactured Compact Disc was released by Philips Classics in 1980. The original recording for the album was made in 1979. In a ceremony to launch the beginning of the manufacture of the disc, musician Claudio Arrau was invited to the factory to press the ‘start’ button on the machinery.
