A group of junior and senior Community Health majors presented proposals for community-based health promotion and disease prevention programs to a panel of professional at the Nassau County Executive and Legislature Building. The students, all enrolled in Dr. Corinne Kyriacou’s Planning, Implementation and Evaluation of Community Health Programs course (HPFS 116) worked all semester learning about the health and housing challenges of elderly Long Island residents. Their assignment was to conduct a needs assessment of an assigned community, and then using the primary data collected – in conjunction with secondary research they examined simultaneously – design data-driven health interventions to address identified problems. Every semester this course is offered, Dr. Kyriacou partners with different local community-based organizations so students can learn an on-the-ground, applied field perspective, as well as a classroom-based academic and theoretical perspective. This semester the partners were FEGS Health and Human Service System, whichserves New York City and Long Island, and the Mid-Island Y/JCC based in Plainview, NY. Students designed needs assessment surveys and collected data from 100 elderly members of several neighborhood program and, based on the data, decided to focus on the following four problem areas for their program proposals: mobility, nutrition, fitness and social isolation. The presentations were capped off by a surprise visit from County Executive Edward Mangano.

Celestine’s husband died of an HIV-related illness 12 years ago. Celestine found out she was HIV+ after being encouraged by Rogers (a volunteer health worker) to take a test. She is now taking anti-retrovirals (ARVs) and is supported by Rogers: ‘I am glad of his support. Without support my life would be so, so bad,’ she says.
Find out more about Rogers and bring hope to the world’s poor this Christmas: www.christianaid.org.uk/christmas
The "Wheel of Public Health Interventions," also known as the Minnesota Wheel. I uploaded this because I was shocked that a good, large version didn't come up when I did a Google image search.
It's from the PDF document at www.health.state.mn.us/divs/cfh/ophp/resources/docs/wheel...
I opened the PDF file with Adobe Photoshop and extracted the Wheel.
Please link to this and raise it's Google ranking. Or rip and upload somewhere else.
