Students visit the table for snacks and refreshments on Monday, Jan. 14, part of Welcome Week at Carl Sandburg College. Students also had a chance to sign up to win a free laptop through the Bookstore.

Students and employees enjoyed a hot cup of cocoa, snacks and a visit with Sandburg President Dr. Lori Sundberg during Wednesday's Hot Cocoa Social in the Student Center.

17th District Congressional Representative Cheri Bustos visits Carl Sandburg College on Thursday, April 4. Bustos met with Sandburg President Dr. Lori Sundberg and toured the Main Campus with stops in academic areas pertaining to the medical field including nursing, medical imaging and mortuary science.

College of DuPage has announced approximately 100 incoming students as Scholars Award recipients for fall 2023.

 

The awards fall into three categories: Presidential, a 64-semester hour full-tuition scholarship; Board of Trustees, which is $2,500 per year; and Deans, which is $1,000 per year. A recent event celebrated the achievements of the scholars and their decisions to attend COD.

 

“The College’s merit-based scholarship program for high school students provides significant financial assistance to high-achieving students beginning their college careers,” said COD President Dr. Brian Caputo. “It is a pleasure to welcome this latest class of scholars and their families to campus and I look forward to seeing them at COD this fall."

Sauk Valley handed the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team a 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 Arrowhead Conference loss on Wednesday night at John. M. Lewis Gymnasium in the Chargers’ final home match of the regular season.

Warm weather and local sports action drew hundreds of guests to College of DuPage for the Chaparrals annual Armed Forces Bowl. The game featured the Chaparral gridders facing the Georgia Military Academy Bulldogs as well as appearances by the Navy Band Great Lakes and the East Aurora High School NJROTC drill team and color guard. Chaparral Head Coach Matt Foster also presented a game ball to friends of Robert J. Miller, an Army staff sergeant from Wheaton killed in action overseas and for whom the College’s Homeland Security Education Center is named. The visiting Bulldogs triumphed over the home team 24-12, ending the Chaparrals three-game winning streak.

The 2018 Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony and Banquet was held on February 23.

 

This year’s Hall of Fame inductees included:

Robert Key (Men’s Basketball/Baseball 1985-1986),

Michelle (Wiitala) Roy (Basketball 1981-82), Kelly Smith (Baseball Coach 1995-2013) and Bill Waag (Baseball 1977-1978.).

 

All proceeds from the event benefit the Lower Columbia College Foundation 'Athletic Excellence Fund' in support of athletic scholarships and programs.
