It’s a wrap! Where do I start? “The Games We Play” school mural project was another fulfilling experience with Thrive Collective.

We started working with the 4th grade students of PS 204 The Vince Lombardi School back in March. Funded by the Cultural Immigrant Initiative via a grant from Council Member Justin Brannan, we explored the games children play in different parts of the world, and how immigrants have brought those traditions with them to Brooklyn. Inspired by legendary Coach Lombardi’s quote, “Winners never quit and quitters never win,” the students depicted their own favorite games in drawings and design ideas.

On October 28, 2012, Hurricane Sandy ravaged PS 329, causing $1 million in damages and four months displacement. One year later, 350 students, parents, and volunteers from five community partners painted an 825 square foot schoolyard mural, co-designed by 250 students and celebrating Coney Island’s extraordinary resilience after the storm.

Last year's downtown show. Hopefully I'll get some more decent ones this year. Happy Independence Day, folks. Have a hot dog.

On June 11th, MHP and the North Wheaton CLI leaders hosted the North Wheaton Cultural Festival to kick off our community oral history project, called "Let Me Introduce You". Residents enjoyed food, games, arts and crafts, music, and most importantly time to connect with each other.

Uniting as guiding forces, a lighthouse and phoenix light the way over the clouds after a year of uncertainty. Resemblant of its name, Harlem Renaissance HS reflects on seasons of rebirth past and present and inspires us to do the same. In a similar light and with the help of our students, we were able to pay tribute to the soul of Harlem that brought much light to its history and continues to lift its community in times like these. Many thanks to Harlem Renaissance HS for inviting us to see the intricacies of working with and honoring such an amazing community.

Ready or not, here comes Brooklyn in full force!💥 Here for the third night of the Hip Hop in NYC Concert Series, Brooklyn brought the house down with more amazing performances and live painting from some great artists. CHINO-BYI, Jenna Morello, Miki-Mu and RIBS-GAK took over the scene with two amazing murals that couldn’t have described the night any better. Many thanks to the NYC Mayor’s Office for another great night of Homecoming and to Mayor de Blasio and NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams themselves for joining in on the celebration!

The third Art of Healing Festival came to Central Harlem on Saturday, August 17th, 2019, in collaboration with the Living Redemption Youth Opportunity Hub. Thank you to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance and his entire Community Partnerships Unit for recognizing the power of art to help us heal through trauma caused by guns and related violence, and to all the community partners who made magic happen all day.

What to do when Carnegie Hall and NeON Arts recommend you to The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to find students to paint four original canvases to present as awards to four of the most distinguished NYC philanthropists at its 25th anniversary gala at Gracie Manson? Commission rockstar student artists Rosabella Garcia, Christopher Ajayi, and Victoria Cruz, with support from School Murals director Marissa Molina and Judah Del Rio . They absolutely crushed the opportunity, and on June 25th they enjoyed the fruit of their labors. Congratulations, team!
