Federal Chamber of the Industrial Economy, former Chamber for Commerce, Trade and Industry

Inner City, the former Chamber of Commerce was built 1905-1907 by Ludwig Baumann. It is a part of the ensemble at the Georg-Coch-Platz with late historicist and Secessionist forms. This is a free standing building block with side projections. In the high base floor are located basement windows with lead reliefs of Jacob Gruber and Emanuel Alexander Swoboda, the portal has coupled pilasters with Doric columns which terminate in a crossed running balcony cornice. The lion reliefs at the columns come from E. A. Swoboda and Carl Wollek, the triglyph frieze from Othmar Schimkowitz. At the projections there are ionic giant half columns, which on the side facing the ring merge into caryatids (of Schimkowitz). From Schimkowitz stem also the attica sculptures (a ship with putti and allegorical figures of Trade and Industry). Also noteworthy is the staircase in Secessionist shapes with three-armed flight of steps with wrought iron railing.

Lights illuminating a loading/unloading area in a Milwaukee industrial area. Strangely enough, there are certain areas in Milwaukee (besides the casino and convenience stores) that work 24x7.. it seems these rail yards and other commerce areas are constantly moving..
Tucked away in the less exclusive areas, they never seem to disappoint as far as unique and interesting subject matter.
I wasn't going to take this photo until the wind started to pick up and the clouds of snow were blowing in front of those giant lights.. it was amazing and COLD at the same time.
Commerce St Bridge, upper photo was taken in 1910 before the street and bridge was widened and the river channeled. The iron truss bridge was moved down river to the King William area and now serves as a pedestrian bridge on Johnson Street. It's often called the O. Henry bridge after it's mention in several of his stories.
