The purpose of the exercise, in collaboration with French soldiers from 35 (RAP Parachute Infantry Regiment) and the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, is training in the procedures and techniques for Non-combatant Evacuation Operations ( NEO).
Nearly 1,000 military Belgians, mostly from the 2nd Battalion of Commandos Flawinne and 3 Battalion Paratroopers Tielen, and 150 French soldiers, supported by 4 C-130, will participate in ACTIVE TRIP. They will travel mainly by foot or by using light wheeled vehicles

Led by the Immediate Reaction Capability (IRC - Para-Commando Regiment), this exercise will also see the participation of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The recent security crisis born of the earthquake in Haiti has highlighted the importance of coordination between the FPS Foreign Affairs and Defense during such a crisis. To gain experience in the field, a team composed of staff from both departments will participate actively in the consolidation of expatriates (about 450 civilians), reception and sorting of these before their evacuation by road or by air on board four C-130 Defence Belgian and a French C-160.
A Rebel Commando is a Rebel Trooper trained for special forces operations. Rebel Commandos fought in the Battle of Endor. As well trained soldiers, Rebel Commandos were often used for scouting and demolition missions. The commandos on Endor were a special 12-man team with members from all seven Regiments of the Alliance Special Forces, they helped out Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Han Solo blow up the shield generator to the Death Star II.

Royal Marines from Charlie Company, 40 Commando Group have carried out an operation to clear improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from a busy market street in the village of Pylae in the Sangin valley. Working in conjunction with colleagues from the Counter-IED Task Force, the marines put in place a cordon around the suspect street to prevent locals from endangering themselves during the clearance and to limit interference from insurgents.

Progress in difficult terrain
The march is a big part of the training program of paratroopers. A specific exercise expects all companies to the Immediate Reaction Capabillity, paracommando regiment: the increase in difficult terrain.
During 72 hours, the paratroopers are on course for Norway, with all their gear, to defy nature. The first day, they must complete 21 km in difficult terrain, 16 second and 10 the next day. This is not a Sunday stroll: with a backpack of 20 pounds and only a map and a GPS to navigate, the slightest mistake is a detour of several miles. The evening, soldiers sleep in their small tents placed on bivouacs.
On the second day, a formidable obstacle stands: zip line across the ravine formed by a winding river of ice water. Both strings were arranged by the Commando Training Centre at the beginning of the year. The military docks by a pulley with his equipment, then moves away from the rock to slide down the other side.
Since the ground is plowed in the last few weeks, most shrubs are still in bud. But the harsh wind that sweeps the board leaves little room for anything other than brush, rocks and moss carpet, dotted here and there a bush.
In fact, if the Norwegian nature is beautiful, she is especially unforgiving. The sun can shine and then fade away 20 minutes later for a painful hailstorm. The military protecting themselves by keeping appropriate. Not too hot for walking, but not enough to cool off during the break, and effective protection against rain and snow that remains to more than 600 m above sea level. 42 Commando Royal Marines J Company went out on Operation Satunki 2. This was an Afgan National Police lead partnered Operation in the area of Ghazni Street, Nadi-e Ali North, Helmand Province, Afganistan. It proved to be a successfull operation as J Company found a number of Improvised Explosive Devices hidden in a large haystack.

Ian Hamiltons 73 Commando. I rebuilt the engine and gearbox on this bike in the early 80's for Ian. He spent 12K$ on it back then. Superb riding bike.

HMS WESTMINSTER CONDUCTS BOARDEX WITH RFA FORT AUSTIN
HMS Westminster has recently conducted a boarding exercise utilising the Royal Fleet Auxillary Ship, Fort Austin as the platform in which to conduct the exercise. During the 3 hour exercise, boarding members made up of Royal Marine Commandos from Faslane and Sailors off of HMS Westminster, went through the whole routine of boarding, conducting personnel searches and also to search for weaponry and contraband that may be on the Ship.

Commando memorial, is dedicated to the men of the original British Commando Forces raised during World War II. Situated around a mile from Spean Bridge village, Scotland, it overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle. Unveiled in 1952.
Bunker L487 is a ww2 German bunker for radio measurement device evaluation for night fighter control "Bertha" in English.
The sun is already setting on the right, giving a nice glow to this amazing monument near Spean Bridge (on the A82 towards Fort William) remembering the sacrifices of the British Commando's near their training grounds.
Sadly there are also quite a few graves of Commando's that died in Iraq.

Based on the Range Rover, the Commando was mainly used by emergency services. It's quite cool, actually. I picked this rather battered example up in Palmerston for $1! I didn't care what condition it was in; I had been looking for one of these ever since I saw one used as a prop in an I Spy book when I was little. I'd like to think this is racing off to some emergency in snowed-under rural Britain!
